Heels Today = Trash
I swear the WWE has NO CLUE how to build good heel characters anymore. Almost every major heel that the company has gets cheered! Its incredible how none of the heels can generate any heat! I miss heels who played the role of asshole so well, they would get booed out of the building upon arrival. Heels cannot get heat because the WWE wants to pander to outside groups and keep their programming family friendly. Heels are limited in what they can say and do. Guys like Ziggler and Punk should not be getting huge pops. I don't care what anyone says. I don't blame them or the fans who cheer them, i blame the writers and their cookie-cutter booking.
Here is a list of true heels i can remember
Triple H(1999-2005)Hunter was the ultimate asshole. He brutalized people, bloodied them and battered them, insulted fans with vigor and abused his power to keep himself as the top dog. Cold, calculating malice from the game. Think about every time this guy lost and how the crowd POPPED at the sight.
Kurt Angle(1999-2000)Angle was an arrogant dork who walked around with a sense of superiority. He owned the fans on a consistent basis. Fans respected his ability but hated his guts. Here is how over Angle was as a heel, people cheered for Triple H to kick his ass in their feud and they HATED Triple H.
Undertaker(1998-1999)Taker was a DEVIL! He kidnapped people, kicked their ass and straight up tortured them.
Vince Mcmahon-(1998-2007)Mcmahon was the ultimate heel. He was evil, smart, vicious, powerful, cowardly, sleazy and dominant all at the same time. This was when Mcmahon did not give a damn.
Right To Censor(2000)People say this gimmick could work in the PG era. I disagree. This group was perfect for the attitude era. Fans loved the sex, violence and language of that time and hated these annoying guys who wanted to take it way. Plus it was so perfect how hypocritical the group was. They talked about being decent, but they acted like sneaky d bags and brutalized people(Chyna). Awesome group.
Mcmahon-Helmsley Regime(2000)-This was basically the Mcmahon family minus Linda. The crowd despised them. Shane's a pussy chants for Shane, asshole chants for Vince and Hunter, slut chants for Stephanie and boos for X-Pac, Road Dogg, Patterson and Brisco.
Stone Cold Steve Austin(April 2001-June 2001)I broke down Austin's heel run in months because these were the only months he really over as a heel. He was brutal and unforgiving. He punished people. Remember the chair attack on Lita and the Hardys. Bastard was Austin. He was getting good heat. But then they turned him into a whiny jokester. What? What? Ugh.
John Cena(Early 2003) Cena was an arrogant d bag who pissed people off with his Vanilla Ice wannabe raps. He owned the fans every week with his raps, which were funny because he just talking instead of actually flowing. I loved how simple his gimmick was. If he was in New York, he would wear a Celtics or Red Sox jersey. If he was in Boston, he would wear a New York jersey. Brilliant. He got good heat at first but the fans starting cheering him late in the year. Face turn.
Edge and Lita(2005-2006)Man these guys got heat. It was perfect because they actually stuck it to Matt Hardy in real life with their affair. Edge was slimy, arrogant and just an overall d bag. He took shortcuts, he cheated and then bragged about it. Lita was slutty and a straight up bitch. Awesome stuff.
Randy Orton(2009) Orton was an evil son of a bitch. He attacked people, punted people in the head, tortured people and acted like a maniac on a weekly basis.
Where are the true heels? I want them back!
I'm a such a fucking lady.
