I've been watching some old PPVs from 2004 this week, mainly SummerSlam, and it got me wondering whether the main event of WrestleMania 21 was meant to be Triple H vs Batista vs Orton instead of just Triple H vs Batista, if they actually gave Orton the dominant World Heavyweight Title run throughout the rest of 2004 which i'm guessing would've probably happened if he hadn't have been an asshole backstage or whatever went down. Then they could've had Triple H beat him for the Title at the Elimination Chamber at New Year's Revolution instead of Unforgiven just a month after he won it, still keep the Batista push as it happened but just add Orton's hunt for the rematch involved so that it was indeed, in the words of Triple H, "Evolution owning this business" with the Evolution triple-threat at WrestleMania for the Title.

At the time, I remember thinking that they might go with a Batista/Flair/Orton/Triple H fatal four way.

I remember there were rumors or "reports" from the dirtsheets that Lesnar/HHH was talked about as a potential main event for WrestleMania 21. That was of course before Lesnar decided to leave WWE in 2004.

HHH/Batista/Orton sounds great but I think the individual programs Batista had with Hunter and Orton had with Taker helped out their careers greatly.

I definitely heard the rumours about HHH/Lesnar and think that would've happened had Lesnar stayed.

HHH/Batista wasn't the greatest match ever but the feud was great and I think having Batista beat HHH in a singles match helped him more than it would have had Orton been involved as well.

It should have been Orton in that place instead of that overpushed/overrated bum Batista. I remember liking almost everything about wrestlemania 21 expect the main event. Such a slow/boring match with a obvious ending.

NO!

Wrestlemania 21 could've been the best Wrestlemania of all time had it not been for the horrible main events. The only match I've enjoyed from Batista vs. Triple H was the Hell in a Cell match at Vengeance. Batista was always so lazy in the ring.

Angle vs. HBK could've been a lot better as the main event of the show.

Yeah I heard that, but even if Lesnar did stay though I personally don't think they would've gone with HHH/Lesnar cause I just feel the Evolution break-up was always meant to happen at 21, it was just a matter of whether it was gonna be Batista or Orton or both facing HHH for the Title.

Don't get me wrong the Orton/Taker match was great and it did do wonders for him just like the Batista win did for him, I just feel it would've been the big climax to the group's break up with the triple-threat instead of the one-on-one.

I've got to agree there, the Cena/JBL match especially, the Batista/Triple H match was slow but it did get quite dramatic when HHH started bleeding which made the ending better. Angle/HBK was amazing but it was the beginning of the Batista/Cena Era so the World Title match was bound to end the show.

I remember thinking they would do a Fatal Four Way with Triple H vs. Flair vs. Batista vs. Orton. All four members of Evolution going at it for the World Championship at WrestleMania.
