Jake “The Snake” Roberts appeared as a guest on the latest edition of Busted Open Radio, hosted by Doug Mortman and Dave LaGreca (Busted Open Radio airs every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sirius 94 and XM 208), where he addressed such topics as the WWE Hall of Fame, dealings with The Undertaker and Vince McMahon, TNA Wrestling, and more. Highlights from the interview are as follows:

On appearing at WrestleReunion this weekend: “Well, you can expect everything. You can expect the unexpected from me. It’s just a great moment for the fans ‘cause you’ll be able to get up close and personal with the guy, and , to me, that’s the best part about it…to give back a little bit what they’ve given me over the years; give them a moment.”

On not being inducted yet into the WWE Hall of Fame: “There’s been a lot of guys go in that belong there, and—I’ll say it again—I think there are some who shouldn’t be in there, but who the hell am I? Hell, I’m not in there, so what the hell. Maybe someday when they put some more guys in there, maybe I’ll go in. I would love to go in, not so much for me but for my kids, man. It’s part of my legacy. I put so much into wrestling; 37 years of it. Why I’m not there, I’m sure somebody’s got a reason.”

On the WWE: “It was different. I certainly see where this is going, which is bringing us into the mainstream, and that’s a positive thing. Y’know, Vince McMahon and the WWF did a hell of a deal turning this into such a monster. His machine is unbeatable. I mean, don’t kid yourself TNA, you’ll always be third stream; there is no second stream. You’ll be third at least because there is no way in hell you’re gonna catch these people, and you might as well forget about it and quit telling the people you are.”

On gimmicks in professional wrestling: “As far as characters…you have a good one and you take care of it, it should last forever. The big thing is you just shouldn’t go out there and destroy your own credibility. If you got two guys out in the ring and you’re clothes-lining each other five times, who’s the tough guy? Maybe one or both of you are lying pricks. Less is more and do the right thing. Don’t do things that are stupid; that’s how you get longevity out of a character. And today there are no characters, I don’t think. They’ve all been just stirred up in a bucket and everybody’s just the same.”

On The Undertaker and his presence in the WWE: “I love the guy, number one. Number two, I was there when he first got in there in the WWE. Here’s really quite a story: He comes to me, he says, “Hey I hear you know where all the good strip joints are at.” And I’m like, “In the world, yes. I know them all.” And he’s like, “Well, I’ll travel with you!” And I said, “Oh boy, why don’t you go back to playin’ basketball because you’re not gonna be able to hang with me,” and I said, “I’ll kill ya.” And a few weeks later, I believe he was in pretty bad shape—something about alcohol poisoning. Yeah, it was a chemical world, and I was cheating, man. He didn’t know it. I wasn’t gonna tell him! He rolled with me for quite a while. We’re great friends and I’d like to think that I helped him more. I think if you asked him he’d tell you the same, that he learned a lot from me. That’s what I was all about anyway, man, not only helping my own character, but helping others with theirs. My idea of being a professional wrestler is to make the show better. In other words, everybody must be better. And if I can help this guy lift his thing up a little bit, I’m gonna go help the guy. That’s something I’m proud of. Whether it be Undertaker or Steve Austin, right on down the line. I think if you asked Austin who helped him the most, he’d tell you it was me. Wherever I met Austin, he wasn’t gonna be more than third or fourth match, and I told McMahon, “Try him for third for next superstar, man.” And he said, “I don’t think so.” Well, gee, even Mr. McMahon can be wrong every now and then!”

On if people are scared to take a chance on him: “I don’t think it’s the past. I think it’s just me, period, because of what I believe in. Vince McMahon once told, “Jake, perception of you with our TV people and stuff is that you’re angry.” I’m like, “I’m not angry!” “You told this guy it was a ‘stupid effin’ idea’!” I’m like, “Well, it was a stupid effin’ idea!” So I stand my ground on what I believe. And—uh—sometimes that gets you in trouble. I wouldn’t be good in a boardroom, man. I speak my piece; I won’t follow any stupid thing that I think is stupid. I’ll just say Screw that; that’s bulls***. That’s gets me in trouble, man. I’m a team player because I want the product better, but… my nose doesn’t fit well up anybody’s butt.”

On if inmates are running TNA: “Oh yeah! I think I told Vince McMahon that one time. Back whenever it was [Scott] Hall, [Kevin] Nash/Diesel (The Kliq) stay in this, you’re letting the Inmates run the asylum. They were calling the shots as they wanted to! And that’s wrong. That is just totally wrong. I would have never thought about doing that out of respect for what this business it and what it is supposed to be. That is just freakin’ wrong! You got people in the wrong positions, you got people that shouldn’t be in those positions. And Dixie Carter—for whatever she is—I think she’s a mark! And for whatever Hogan is, Hogan’s not a booker! Christ. I mean, thank god they got rid of the jerk, the one that destroyed the WCW. What was his name? DL: [Vince] Russo. JtS: RUSSO! He’ll probably go in the goddamn Hall of Fame before I do.”

On Training Wrestlers:
“I would love that! I would love to kill them! I would love to touch them all over. Enter their orifices with my thumb when they do something wrong. It’s stupid! I would love to be teaching these kids. My god, I would love that. Because I could either sit back on my ass and try to watch wrestling (which I get so frustrated with today that I turn it off), or I could say, Okay, look, man, get up there and try to do something about it. And the only thing I could do about it now is by teaching. My physical problems: my feet, my hands, my neck, no wonder! If you have that happen, well, thirty-seven years of getting your ass kicked will do that to you, Jake! I can’t compete anymore, but I can teach these kids so much. That would be a real joy for me. It certainly would.”

if Jake is clean then WWE should hire Jake as trainer, Jake The Snake is one of the best on Mic and In ring psychology which today talent can learn alot from him.

doesn't suprise me Jake hate calling Hogan a Jerk...so many guys during Hogan era really hate Hulk Hogan.

Good read. Jake sounds like I would be when I finally breakout as a wrestler, wanting everything as a whole to be better. Funny story about Taker back in the day too. I would LOVE for The snake to be a trainer, he's one of the smarter guys theres ever been regardless of his problems.. and he's cleaned up and he's in a good place now, good for him. We have DDP to thank.

Lol @ him saying he gets so mad at wrestling today he has to turn it off..well fucking said, and I just absolutely know he's talking about WWE waaaaay more over than TNA. Speaking of TNA, I hope The Snake is proved wrong, because there will be a second stream, and soon enough main stream. TNA is growing

He'll be inducted next year, I really hope. You go snake

"And today there are no characters, I don’t think. They’ve all been just stirred up in a bucket and everybody’s just the same.”"
what Jake said is so true with current character which all the same, Babyface pretty much all the same unlike back in 80's where you can see everyone is unique. from what i see guys like Austin and Jake who spoke out with the problem that WWE facing but why WWE didn't do anything?

WWE or someone can call IWC/Non-casual fans bunch of something but with legends who spoke out which IWC/Non-casual fans have said every fucking days or every fucking week.

just hope Jake stay clean and get the job with WWE as trainer either in WWE or NXT developmental program. to make this work then WWE have to give Jake and the boys the freedom.

another Jake interview with wrestling 101 and the highights
Jake Roberts Talks Vince McMahon As A Boss, Working With Undertaker & Steve Austin, HOF, More

Source: Wrestling 101

Joshua Modaberi of Wrestling 101 recently interviewed Jake "The Snake" Roberts. Here are some highlights:

Keeping fans updated on his progress with DDP Yoga with videos and photos: "I wanted everybody to see my progress because you can do it too. There are a lot of people out there who suffer from the same crap that I did, and I want them to know that they can turn their lives around as well, all it takes is commitment. DDP Yoga is about changing your mind and changing everything you are doing because guess what, that s--t was not working. I'm now eating the right foods at the right time.

"DDP would tell me not to wear certain t-shirts because they had negative messages on them and if people see you wearing a shirt with a negative message on they give you negative feedback. He then asked me to come up with some slogans and we put them on shirts like 'Failure is not an option' and 'My history is not my destiny', people are stopping me in the street and asking where they can buy the shirts.

"I'm looking forward to getting healthy not only for myself but for my kids and my grandkids. I want to help other people feel better as well and I'm going to be a bigger star with DDP Yoga than I ever was being a wrestler."

If he might return to the ring: "All I'm focused on today is staying sober and keeping my mind away from dope and doing the next best thing and the next right thing. I'm living day-to-day because if I start looking way ahead I'll get in trouble. I'll never say never because in the past I would have said I'll never do yoga so how can I say I'll never do anything else."

Working with Randy Savage: "It was wonderful, it was easy working with Randy, he was wired different, everyone was running on 1.10, Randy would be running on 2.20. He was a bit of a psycho at times, he would fly off the handle on your ass so you always had to be careful what you said or did, but I love Randy, god bless him."

Working with The Undertaker: "Working with The Undertaker was great, working with him early on in his career you knew he was talented but with regards to his WrestleMania streak absolutely not, who would of? If I said, yeah I knew that would happen I would be a liar. He has taken the bull by the horns and has had a fabulous career, nobody is going to touch that streak and I hope it goes on forever, he is a great guy and he deserves to be able to do whatever he wants."

Working with Steve Austin: "It was wonderful and I wanted Steve to get a break, he had been around for a while and he had never been given the break he deserved. He was a great ring technician, but he damn sure wasn't the 'Ring Master' though, that's what they called him when he first came in, Ted DiBiase talked for him and that damn sure wasn't needed either.

Steve came to me and wanted help, I got with him because I respected his work in the ring and his dedication. Everyday he had a match he would call me and tell me what went on, and I would tell him what he should have done there or what he shouldn't have done here and I schooled him.

"Doing the 3:16 thing was just phenomenal, being the guy that went out there and made him a superstar is something that I will always hold dear to my heart because at the time everyone was saying he would never be a main event guy but guess what, they were all wrong, and Jake 'The Snake' said so."

Vince McMahon as a boss: "That's my business and nobody else's; I respect the man immensely for what he's done in wrestling, with wrestling and for wrestling. There are some things I don't like but guess what there are some things I don't like about everybody including myself."

If he would look forward to a WWE Hall of Fame induction: "Oh absolutely, if it happens it happens and maybe it will someday and if it doesn't my life won't be changed by it, it could be enhanced a bit by it but it's not going to change. I achieved a lot in wrestling and I'm proud of it, I'm not proud of a lot of my actions away from wrestling, but I'm going to stand up and take those on the chin as well because you have to take the good with the bad."

Roberts also discussed moving in with DDP, how DDP Yoga changed his life and more. You can read the full interview here www.wrestling101.com/home/2013/02/jake-the-snake-roberts-interview/.

I feel like DDP will be the reason Jake The Snake Roberts will get into the WWE Hall of Fame. Jake will get healthy, and thus the WWE will induct him into a hall of fame. Does he have a DVD series?

When Randy Orton gets tired, he gets lost in "The Snake Pit".

One of the best minds in wrestling who should at the very least be an agent. Guy is a legend and if he can stay clean a deserved hall of famer.

Re: Jake Roberts-Not Being In The WWE HOF, Calls Dixie Carter A "Mark", Undertaker St

Shane Douglas, Stevie Richards, Bret Hart , and now Jake Roberts called Dixie Carter a "Mark"

Dixie is a mark. Or at least based on observation she seems to be very much markish in her approach. She evidently has a love for wrestling from the 80's and 90's and it appears that if she were given full control of the purse-strings, she'd fill the company with all the stars of yesteryear she could get into the place, then have Creative write stories about these big, burly pensioners (although she doesn't seem to see them as pensioners) fighting to save her/save her company/protect her honour.

It's awesome that Jake seems more proud of the guys he helped make in the business and what they went on to do than he is of all the incredible stuff that he did. That's what the wrestling business is missing today.

It's also awesome to read an interview with jake roberts.. I've only seen video interviews with him for years because he's never made enough sense to be transcribed.

When Jake gets clean, he either needs a job on creative or training

Because this guy, he really gets it

Also I read the interview in his voice and it made everything 10 times more awesome
