Re: Lance Storm
Yeah he isn't the most charismatic guy in the World, but you can't seriously be slating his abilities in the ring. A guy with that little personality doesn't make it to the WWF/E without one or the other.
He was a true student to the game and a great athlete. You cite Jericho's second book (in which he was right to tell Jericho that name sucked), well in his first book he talks about meeting Lance and how Chris was the WWF fan, all about the glitz and glamour and big characters - whilst Lance was an NWA man, all about solid technical wrestling. That pretty much defines those two personalities right through their careers (although Jericho made a pretty good job of becoming a decent wrestler too).
But yeah, a guy like Lance in the WWE had to push the idea that he was this dry cut, boring guy. People say the Austin thing was disrespectful, I'm sure Lance didn't mind. Austin was interacting with him on national television - Steve Austin... the biggest thing in wrestling since Hogan. I can't really remember if it went anywhere, a match on Raw or anything more worthwhile - but it COULD have if it didn't and that's all a guy can hope for in Lance's position in the WWE at that point (and for what it's worth he always speaks highly of Austin on Twitter when asked about the guy so I sincerely doubt he holds animosity at all about it).
PS I loved his catchphrase "If I can be serious for a minute" before cutting a promo... if that isn't the ultimate dig at himself, what is?
