Default WWE TItle Regins that were Erased

In 1987 the Rougeau Brothers beat the Hart Foundation for the Tag Titles on Montreal, the match was actually shown for the Montreal Market.

In 1990 the Rockers beat the Hart Foundation for the Tag Titles. Jim Neidharts contract was expiring, after his contract expired the WWF gave the titles back to the Harts and claimed a fault ring rope for the title.

WWF World TItle- ANtonio Inoki defeated Bob Backlund in Japan.

WWF World Title - Ted Dibiase after he bought the belt from Andre he defended the title at 3 house shows.

I have heard about these. There have been others too from the distant WWF past. Since WWE now owns AWA, Hogan's two AWA title reigns (one of them for 6 days) should count too.

Benoit, and Jericho when he beat Triple H for the title on SmackDown in 2000.

Great post, Manti. I was actually thinking about this the other day.
I remember reading about the Rougeau's win in a magazine back in '87. I think they held the belts for a couple of shows & were announced as the World Wrestling Federation Tag Team Champions.

As for the Harts/Rockers situation. The rumour I've heard is that Neidharts contract was ending & was leaving, so the belts were going to Shawn & Marty. They would quickly drop the belts to Power & Glory, who would then drop the belts to The Road Warriors at Wrestlemania 7.

But Neidhart changed his mind & resigned. New plan was to drop the belts to Power & Glory at WM7, who would drop them to the Road Warriors at Summerslam.
But then Hogan pulled some strings backstage (shocking, I know) & had his two buddies, The Nasty Boys inserted into the tag title match instead.

Benoit's reign is not "erased". WWE just does not acknowledge it directly any further. It's still in the history books and has not been replaced with anything. He was still the champion from Wrestlemania 20 until SummerSlam 2004. Plus if that's erased, it would also remove all his other reigns as IC Champion, Tag Team Champion, US Champion and anything else he won including his Royal Rumble 04 win. Too much history to simply change. What WWE does now is just reference it indirectly. So they will acknowledge that two men have won the Rumble from #1 and that HHH lost his title at WM20 which Orton won at SS and resulted in the split from Evolution but they wont mention Benoit's name.

Erased is Ted DiBiase's "reign" that came from buying the title from Andre the Giant. Instead they will just say that Andre vacated the title after 45 seconds ().

I don't know if it was 'erased' as such, but there was a match in 2002 where Rob Van Dam beat Undertaker and was announced as the new Undisputed WWE Champion, but then Ric Flair came out and restarted the match.

I don't think these scenarios count as a title change. Because then Chris Benoit would be a two time WWE Champion too. (Fully Loaded and Unforgiven 2000, he won the title temporarily until it was restarted by Foley)

Maybe not technically, or in the sense that you mean for the topic, but I'm pretty sure any of Chris Benoit's title reigns have been "erased".
