Why do people like Shelton?

Because he has pretty decent in- ring ability. I get your point, but the decent in- ring, no charisma or personality thing applies to many other while we're at it, like Jeff Hardy, John Morrison (although he's more of a spot monkey), and Charlie Haas.

However, in a world of below average wrestlers with below average personalities, like Ryback

, people naturally do like Shelton Benjamin.

Thing is even Jeff had a personality. Morrison had a personality. May not be the best on the microphone, but they have personality, they have larger than life gimmicks. Shelton is just generic athletic black guy. Shelton's a good wrestler but as stated earlier, the IWC feel if you either A. Oversell or B. Use 30 variations of a suplex, that you're a good wrestler.

Please, let's give the charisma and mic skills argument a rest. But if you "look" like Shelton Benjamin, you better have the charisma and mic skills of The Rock to be World Champion, and nobody has that.

Most if not all the guys you listed may've not had the best mic skills but all had either larger than life gimmicks or signs of a personality/persona.

I was a Benjamin fan. I never saw him as a future star or anything, but I think it's always good to have great athletes in the midcard. Okay, he mightn't have been a super worker and maybe is a bit of a spot monkey, but for shortish TV matches where he could pull off something unique that added a spark to the show. He was also involved in one of my favourite RAW memories where he trolled Triple H in that handicap match, which ultimately led to the reformation of DX.

Shelton was no spot monkey in wwe, he was a great wrestler who could hit amazing spots. Big difference. Jeff hardy and Kofi Kingston are spot monkeys.

people love shelton because he can grapple and convey the martial art of pro wrestling better than most and because they belive wrestling can be a sport and that the talking of a contact sport is not mandatory
