Why Austin vs Hogan never took place?

well I remember back in 2005 I saw wwe homecoming, and hogan was with mean gene and in that night he challenge stone cold to a match, why never happen?

Hogan wanted it to happen on WM 22 but by that time austin wasn't interested in wrestling anymore and has been retired for over 3 years

Austin was retired, and I don't think either guy would've been ok with taking the pin

HBK vs Rock is in the same boat, except either of the two would've most likely been cooperative

Cos when either one of them loses cleanly, it'll just show that his ERA was worse than the other, since both of them were the top faces in different era.

Wasn't Hogan v Austin the original plan for WrestleMania 18 but Austin turned it down so they went with Hogan v Rock instead?

Apparently it was according to many sources. After saying this, I'm out of this thread because it will soon turn into the weekly Austin vs Rock war. Just wanted to answer the question.
