Re: Why was JBL nearly looked over?

It wasn't until Bradshaw began to garner some crossover appeal as somewhat of an expert on finance that WWE began to look at him differently.

He was in the right place at the right time. Without Bush/ Fox News hatred his push never happens. I don't think people ever took him seriously though. He was just too far down the Attitude era ladder to actually make a successful jump.

Re: Why was JBL nearly looked over?

I had stopped watching for a few months after WM XX (was working at nights) and I remembered asking a friend if Eddie and Benoit were still champs and when he told me JBL was champ I didn't believe him. I was a fan of Bradshaw before but I just didn't believe he was really champ at the time.

Anyways I really enjoyed his run as champ, was a very old school heel.

Re: Why was JBL nearly looked over?

I always like the APA better than JBL. I'm not saying JBL wasn't a great heel character, but I just dig me an old fashioned ass kicking tag team. I think the fact that the JBL character came out of nowhere, and was a 180 was hard for people to get behind. You can also add to that the guy doing a 180 character wise was a career mid carder turned into an overnight main eventer. It's not hard to see why people didn't like it.

He had a proper run from the second half of 2001 through to WM18, then they dropped him from a height, kept him trapped in mid card as a heel for a couple years and it wasn't until his next title reign when he really returned to the top level. Total shame.

Re: Why was JBL nearly looked over?

yeah his bradshaw persona wasnt really that popular and when it comes to tag teams most superstars usually have around the same popularity level anyways so its pretty hard to standout when your not in singles competition. it wasnt a surprise that he was overlooked for so long and even when he did become wwe champion it was only because of the basham brothers and oj that he held it for so long since they were constantly saving him.
