Dammit, this man is trying to turn his life around and shit like this happens. Why can't Jake catch a break, the man is old but is busting his ass to get sober and healthy. Really hopes he can get the money. I'd donate, but I don't have money to spare atm. I'd love to get a personal promo from The Snake...
The old worn out fallacy of "Appeal to Worse Problems" eh? Ok, if that's the case, why are you frittering away your time on this wrestling forum when you could be using your resources, brain-power, and time to assist starving children in Africa and other far more important matters such as global warming? The fact is you can do more than one thing a a time; fans assisting a broken down wrestler who entertained many of us through the years shows our gratitude and humanity - which you of course you lack by your callous hypocrisy and false appeal. No doubt that Jake has to be responsible for his actions but he put he literally broke his body to entertain us and eventually succumbed to alcoholism and drug addiction. These are diseases not moral lapses that you judge like a two-faced religionist.
What SAMOA needs to realize is that you can't change the world for everyone, no matter how much money or effort you yourself put into it.
However, you can change the world for at least one person. And that's exactly what everyone has the oppurtunity to do for Jake. To help change his world. You make a change in the life of one person, and they go on to return the favor and so on, you've helped in a chain of changing the world for the better. Doesn't matter if it's to cancer research, or volunteering at your local soup kitchen, a charitable act is a charitable act. So get off your fucking high horse.
I agree - I also will make a donation, even though he's already reached the target [if it allows me]; this man has given me so much entertainment over the years, as an athlete.
I chipped in $15, just under £10 and I get a signed photo, apparently rare so I see it as a fair transaction that comes with the side effect of helping a man make the chances to his life that he desperately wants, needs and is trying to achieve. 70 days sober and made it through New Years Eve, Christmas and Thanksgiving without a drop sounds pretty impressive.
I'm very glad to hear that DDP has been able to help Jake. The amount of success he's had with the program is astounding.
The way that I look at this situation; It might be a permanent change, or it might not, but I'm happy to give Jake the benefit of the doubt. I know these stories and I sympathize with his struggles. I believe that he truly wants to change right now and that's all you can really ask of a person. Whether he slips up in the future is irrelevant to his journey right now, and he's on a good path. I'm more than willing to give a couple of quid to a guy that worked as hard (and was as good) as Jake 'The Snake' Roberts.
The videos of Jake have been very cool. This one was sad. It sucks to see that he has to ask for donations to get something like shoulder surgery.
@Samoa.. cancer foundations and research clinics get well more money than they probably need or should get. The funding of the research itself has become big business and is as likely to hold off eventual cures and treatments as it is to provide them. After all, once they "find the cure to cancer" there's no more need to fund the research for it.
Not saying they aren't good causes, what you mentioned... just saying, get a life.
Damn, it's a fucking disgrace that in one of the richest countries in the world, someone has to beg to get something as necessary as a shoulder surgery.
He's not forcing you people to donate money to him. If you want to donate donate, if you don't want to don't be douches about it. He's obviously fallen on hard times and is trying to get his life together.
Glad to see he's met his goal already, that is awesome. As many have said before, Vince could've paid for it in exchange for some training/insight for his developing talent.
That is sad. I'm happy to hear Jake's sober (unlike poor Scott Hall), but having to ask for donations for surgery for an injury that probably originated in his wrestling days is incredibly sad =(
Hope it's a multi-millionaire and not a lad who just happens to have a few grand saved.
I really appreciate this, how Jake is willing to ask for help. I don't suppose he could ever be too proud as he's been at his lowest and probably would have taken anything, but now he is willing to admit to help him carry on turning his life around he needs help.
Does he deserve the chance? Well, there are probably others who deserve it more but Jake is an example of one extreme to another. If Jake can succeed I would believe anyone can, and can hopefully see this legacy that DDP could build by helping these people out help our current generation of wrestlers continue after wrestling.
I will donate, I don't expect anything in return but it's great to see he's offering pictures/cards etc. I think there's a great way for them to make money and that's pay to subscribe to DDP's website, and have all sorts of videos on there from the yoga, to the funny ones, to even reviews that Jake used to do on his Myspace, to all sorts of content. I wouldn't mind dropping a few quid a month for that, knowing it's not just helping Jake but DDP go forward too.
I hope that in 10 years time we're looking at DDP Yoga as an enterprise, somewhere WWE sends it's wresters to rehabilitate and something everyone can do. It genuinely seems interesting and seems to have helped a lot of people.
He'll make it easily. Hes a nearly a third of the way there in just one day. He looks much better and I bet Vince would bring him back in some capacity if remained sober and had successful shoulder surgery. He could teach those guys a lot down in NXT.
Fucking heart-breaking, but it says a lot about how far he's come that he's even able to make a plea like that. Hopefully some of the people still in wrestling and making plenty of bucks will send some his way.
One thing his time with DDP has done is give him a genuine smile. I don't think I'd seen a real smile on his face since the early 90s before he got with DDP.
He's going to meet that target overnight. God damn.
