It seems that they like to get as much millage as possible from their draws and create loads of... OK... matches trying to incorporate as many people as possible but are ultimately forgettable instead of putting all their eggs in one basket once in a while for a few GREAT matches that really remain memorable.

Take WM for example...

Normally you'll get two title matches, one streak match and one "star studded" match. Which is ok sometimes while but it would be really nice if once in a while they could stick the title into one of the big matches to create some seriously big matches.

They need the money in the bank ladder match back at wrestlemania, was one of the reasons I would watch and buy that PPV, now its just a normal PPV

Re: Do you feel that WWE water down their "big" matches these days?

The only "big" matches they water down nowadays are the hardcore ones, and only because of safety restrictions, which is bullshit honestly.

There aren't many innovative or interesting spots in other big matches any more because we have seen most if not all of the ones considered "safe" in WWE.

Also there's been a really large decline in wrestling ability in main events as of late. The only good 'wrestler' in the main events right now is Punk and that's saying something. In comparison to previous workers like Taker, Angle, HBK, etc, he's sloppy, slow, and not intense. You could consider Del Rio in it but you can never show your prowess as a lucha-esque wrestler when you're in a feud with Big Show.

There are wrestlers that play their roles very well, like Sheamus, Big Show and Del Rio (plays a pretty good face honestly)

That doesn't mean there aren't good matches. Sheamus v Big Show where Big Show won the title was probably the best match of the year of the current full-time roster.

Just another example of them watering things down.

It made an amazing opening match for WM and was always excited and got people fired not. Now instead of sticking all these awesome things at WM to make it the must see PPV of the year they'd rather replace it with crap like Sheamus vs Bryan in 18 seconds and move the exciting ladder match to it's own dedicated PPV in order to try and make a bog standard PPV seem less s***.

Which is kinda funny... because in 4 or 5 years time MITB is still probably going to be more famous for Punk vs Cena 2011 than anything it's ever done on the actual ladder match.

Great post and I agree with most of it but the main thing I was curious about was I think it feel like there is less on the line these days in the big matches than times gone past. Matches like Jericho vs Punk, Cena vs Batista, Cena vs Edge vs Big Show just all feel so one dimensional.
