Wrestlers that went further in their career than you expected when you first saw them

I have been watching wrestling since 1983, so 30 years. There are certain wrestlers over the years, that have gone much further with their career than I would have expected when I first saw them.

Shawn Michaels. First saw him as part of the Midnight Rockers in the AWA. Sure he was talented, but never thought he would become a multi-time WC and first ballot HOFer.

C.M. Punk. - First heard of him when he was feuding with Raven in ROH and being part of Raven's group in TNA with Julio Dinero. Like HBK could see he was talented, but never expected him to go this far in WWE.

Kevin Nash - Yes he played the political game very well and wasa jacked almost 7 foot tall guy, but after seeing him as Oz, part of the Master Blasters and Vinnie Vegas, never thought he would go far.

Jeff Jarrett - yes it helped that he was the son of a promoter, but seeing a skinny but talented kid in World Class, never though he would make it big in the WWF, WCW and TNA.

Mick Foley - First saw him in World Class. Even though he was decent in his first WCW run, never though, he would be a multi time World Champ.

Hardy Boyz - Starting in WWE as teenage jobbers, never thought they would go as far as they did, especially Jeff.

John Cena - a jacked guy and I liked the Doctor of Thugonamics gimmick, but again never saw him as a future face of the company when I first saw him on WWF TV. Unlike Batista, who for some reason thought he would hitmit big when he started as Deacon Batista.

I am also adding Booker T after I started the thread. Talented when he was part of the Ebony Experience in GWF, never thought he would become a 5 time WCW world champ and WWF champ.

As far as female wrestlers:

Trish Stratus - Improved alot from when she started.

Lita - First saw her as Miss Congeniality in ECW. Never thought she would be the centerpiece of a boomperiod in WWFs women Divison along with Trish.

There are others, but these are the ones that stand out most to me. I am sure I am forgetting some others.

I actually thought of him, but for some reason decided to leave him out.

As far as Maivia, I get what you are saying, but kind of like with Randy Orton, figured he was the son of an 80s star, who had a good build and athletic ability, so while I did not think he would become a big movie star, I figured WWf was behind him and they would give him another chance after the Rock bombed as Maivia.

Edge: Didn't think he'd be a multiple time world champion. Thought he'd win it once or twice and stay mainly in the mid card. But then again, I didn't watch from 02-05, so I missed his early singles career.

Christian: After he went to TNA, didn't think he'd EVER win a world title. Always thought that Vince had something against him for some odd reason. Especially considering that the only thing Edge really had on him was looks.

Jeff Hardy: Really. Him? I know he eventually got over as fuck but still didn't think they'd pull the trigger on him as world champion.

The Miz: I still say he shouldn't have been WWE Champion. Thought he'd be a career mid carder. If someone would've told me that he would've won the WWE Championship, main evented WM against John Cena and won, I'd laugh for days.

Punk: Didn't he'd ever do much outside of short whc reigns. Didn't think he'd ever be WWE Champion for even 5 months.Knew he had talent but the way he was booked, made me believe that he'd wind up as another failed talent in the WWE who should've accomplished much more.

Jeff Hardy.

And every time I see him talk and perform, I wonder how he's currently holding the world championship in the second largest promotion in the world, and how he's a 6-time world champion.

I agree and that made me think of Rey Misterio also

Saw all three first in ECW, never thought they would all become WWF world champs

I also add DDP, first saw him as an AWA manager, never thought he would be a world champ in WCW.
