One of the greatest wrestlers of all time passes away and WWE lets one of his best friends win the Rumble in his honor and wrestling fans are complaining about that? Compared to some of the other things they did after Eddie's death, I'd say having Mysterio win the Rumble was quite tasteful.
Besides, people act like Mysterio was some sort of jobber at the time. He has always been one of the top guys in the company because of his fanfare and merchandise sales and 2006 was no different. And I truly believe that if Mysterio hadn't won the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 22, he would have won it some time after that. Probably sooner rather than later. WWE probably just moved his title victory up to pay tribute to Eddie.
Another problem I have with this argument is that nobody ever seems to take issue with a similar situation that happened recently with Christian. Now, don't get me wrong, I am a huge fan of Christian and I was very happy to see him finally win the World Heavyweight Championship. However, while the situation wasn't exactly the same since Edge didn't pass away, it is in the same realm. Christian was pushed to the World Heavyweight Championship because of Edge's retirement. You could say his title reign was solely a tribute to Edge. A "thank you" from WWE. But nobody complains about that one.
Get over it already. Tribute to Guerrero or not, Mysterio deserved and merited than Rumble win.

its not "thank you edge" its more like "ur buried again christian"

Meh Rey winning because of Eddie's death (which i think there is alot more to it then that) is nothing compared to them continously playing up Eddies death for storyline value or to get people like Orton cheap heat. That was insulting.

Yes, Rey piggybacked on his best friend's corpse for a World Heavyweight Championship reign. Lost a little respect for Rey and around that time I stopped watching.

Re: WWE's massive mistake in 2006
I always thought it was fairly obvious that they were grooming Rey Mysterio to be a Main Eventer throughout 2005.

Well unless there is something I don't know about no one seems to have blacklisted Mysterio or otherwise have a problem with it now and why would they when a lot of them played some part in that mess back in '06 from Triple H on the RAW after the Rumble to Orton to one of Guerrero's best friends to his own damn nephew and wife. I have 2 points here: this doesn't all fall on Mysterio and if nobody else specifically the Guerreros hates Mysterio for it (I believe him and Chavo might still be good friends?) Why are random people on the internet still holding a torch for it. I understand its easy to pinpoint Mysterio he's the one who benefitted and I also understand that he could have declined to go with this angle but he didn't and that's just the way it is. Point is the main folks who should have a beef(Guerreros) don't seem to have one now if they can let it go why can't some fans? If there is some disgruntled wrestler out there who has beef still over seriously let me know cuz I haven't heard anything yet.

i think there is like a code luchas have where if they lose their mask in a match with a Luchas de Apuestas they really shouldn't put the mask back on, once your face is exposed what's the point?

Weird, I remember listening to a radio interview how he said he didn't want to cash in on his uncles death.

It sounds like he is just mad they didn't go with him to cash in on Guerrero's death which is just as trifling.
