They just wanted to push Rey Mysterio and that was just the perfect time to do that.
after jobbing three times to kurt angle prior to that? they were just making as much money from Eddies death as they could

undercarder is more like it, the only time he gets higher is because they had no-one left to push or they feel like using undertones Eddie again for cheap heat

Reports have said for ages that Taker offered Kurt a chance to end the streak. Apparently, Kurt respectfully declined, but this was before plans fell through about their match at Wrestlemania 22.
These are dirt sheets, so take them with a grain of salt, although they sound somewhat true to me.
That's a ctually something Angle said himself. But during the weird period where Angle was a bit of a nutter, and claimed Dana White offered him a UFC spot, to which Dana had to go public with and say was bollox. He also got done for drink driving about a week after he made that statement.
The biggest problem was that they booked him to go 60 minutes. It defied logic and realism that such a small guy could last that long against guys like Show, Viscera, Kane and Lashley.
He has such a big heart! This Rumble, and the win at Mania really made my hatred for Mysterio grow to an insane level. The buildup sucked, the fact that he won it solely because Eddie died sucked, and all of the "Do it for Eddie" shit really sucked.

Chavo was a prominent figure in the mid card of Smackdown as both a tag team specialist and a cruiserweight, when that ended he worked mostly as an enhancement talent, trainer and leader.
I'm so sick of people claiming Rey became big because of Eddies death.
Rey was a major star before he even thought about going to the WWE.

And I do think Rey was bigger than Eddie before they came to WWE, but that's just my opinion.

I don't recall a time when Eddie was ever bigger than Rey.

The problem that I have is not that Mysterio won the Rumble and the world heavyweight title (I hated him as champion but after the likes of Super Cena and Ryback in the main event it doesn't upset me anymore), the problem was how it was booked. Eddie messing with Rey by having him pick #2, Triple H furious on Raw after the Rumble because Rey couldn't win it alone, somebody or something protected him after the Rumble and mentioning it multiple times in various segments that Eddie was in the ring. If Rey said that he was motivated and won the Rumble for Eddie it would not look so pathetic but he made it look like the spirit of Eddie was in the ring.
No matter how much over he was or how deserving it was. This "Eddie helped me" will forever overshadow it and it's just pathetic as "Eddie is in hell" IMO

not buying this. Love Kurt, but no way he would have beaten the streak.
Taker offered the streak to a lot of wrestlers, but that doesn't mean that was EVER the plan. I think fans misunderstand this...on record, he offered the streak to Edge, Angle, Kane, Triple H, I think even Mark Henry was considered a contender for ending it, but Vince and all of the wrestlers involved knew that the streak was worth way more than putting someone over in a WM match.
TLDR; just because it didn't happen, doesn't mean it was never brought up, but that also does not mean it was ever ever ever the plan. A lot of different wrestlers got offered the Streak by Taker. They all knew it would be locker room/WM paycheck suicide to take it to kill off the Streak.

he was Kerwin freaking White
