Explain how Goldberg is still awesome and Ryback sucks?

Other than "he's a ripoff of Goldberg" because I could just as easily cite Ric Flair as an even bigger ripoff, or numerous other wrestlers, and kill that argument cold.

Seriously, what about Ryback is so logically different that he's terrible and Bill Goldberg is the fucking man? Many of you are the same people who thought Goldberg was the shit 10+ years ago, and now a guy with some similarities to him has appeared, and people are burying him and claiming he sucks. It's as if he "sucks" because a few people up here said it, and their opinions came to be your opinions, rather than you forming your own opinion.

I see Ryback in the ring, and I see a guy who is filling a very specific role - a big hulking tank like wrestler who is clearly a hevyweight, and a guy who fills the "Shit just got real" gap that WWE had since The Undertaker began working part time a few years ago. His in ring skills are not terrible. He's had a few botches, sure. Do some of you forget Bill Goldberg has more than a few botches as well? Ask Bret Hart.

Now, you can certainly make the argument that Goldberg may be a more talented in ring performer, or maybe you cannot, but I just don't see one or the other as vastly better. Goldberg was booked to the moon. He destroyed everyone, even moreso than Ryback has. He sold like shit often. His matches were short. His mic skills were decent, nothing spectacular.

How is Ryback so terrible and Goldberg so great? Do people have a view of Goldberg from their childhood that didn't really exist? What things made Goldberg that much more "epic" than Ryback? Multiple sentence answers would be preferred.

They're both awful imo. But ill admit that Goldberg had presence and at the time it was rare to see someone just run through everyone like he did but obviously they're trying the exact same formula with new Superstars today not just Ryback but with guys like Tensai, Mcintyre, Sheamus, Jinder Mahal etc. and it just gets old really fast.

Pretty much everything here.

I'd add that not only did Goldberg have the monster-like strength, he was a fucking athlete. His moves LOOKED quick and devastating. Ryback is very, very methodical, plodding around the ring from impact move to impact move.

Look at that video, Goldberg's punches to the Giant. Dude had quickness and strength, just a freakish combination.

I remember back when "the Vanilla Gorilla" first showed up on Tough Enough. He's paid some dues in the developmental rings, and went through a questionable "Skip Sheffield" persona. So far I haven't seen any work from him that tells me flat out he can't portray the monster in the ring, so I think the guy deserves more from the fans. I was on board with the Goldberg chants early on when all he did was squash matches and said nothing, but since then he has faced legitimate competition and done a few credible promos.

Because Goldberg is

and Ryback is

But seriously now, Goldberg had this aura and intensity like already mentioned by Headliner.
The most important difference between these two is that Goldberg was so hot, they had no choice than to push him and they couldn't wait to give him the world title on a PPV and booked it on Nitro with only a 3 days announcement. Ryback on the other side was just forced into the main event.

Didn't even know Brittney did a song. I wish I could go back to not knowing Brittney did that song.

I love how all the Internet smarks are jizzing themselves over Goldberg all of a sudden when they've been criticizing him for the longest time and complaining he only had 2 moves.

Different time. Different era. Different fans.

Is why Ryback is having a hard time winning people over. Switch these two and put them in eachothers shoes and the exact results would happen.

Ryback is just a fake, overproduced and robotic product. He screams "Goldberg 2.0", ffs.

I still don't get what's so special about either. Goldberg to me is and always has been another muscular guy with no depth in the ring and relies on this "bad ass" look that only goes so far with me. I just don't see it. Overrated, in my opinion.

Ryback has a cool slogan, but he's rather similar to me in the ring. I haven't seen him as the highlight in any of his matches. The only really good match he's been in was the TLC match and he wasn't nearly the best performer in the match.

If we're just talking physicality in the ring, as others have said Goldberg had unparallelled quickness and coordination for a power wrestler (until Brock). His speed and coordination is what made his power moves look so awesome. He's a genuine 'holy shit' wrestler.
He had an amazing moveset too - the gorilla press into powerslam, spinning neckbreaker not to mention some incredible kicks, flying kicks, and some great spinning ankle holds too. His speed made the spear look like he had killed someone and the jackhammer looked so damn pretty IMO.

Ryback shows impressive power yes, but he's much more plodding and a bit slow and uncoordinated. I think to a lot of people it's all too apparent that WWE are trying to make him like a Goldberg character, but the performer Ryback doesn't really have the same gifts as the real deal.

Basically what has already been said. Goldberg had an amazing presence around him which Ryback lacks. However, I was never a fan of Goldberg. He was a sloppy wrestler and only blew up because of his streak which many wrestlers have already said. He never cared about the business and always came off like he bought his own hype in interviews. I think both have no place in professional wrestling.

Every wrestler starts out as a ripoff of some sorts, they want them to channel certain elements of past performers. Though, the aspect that makes or breaks a character is whether they manage to make their character their own. Goldberg felt like he was his own character, Ryback just feels artificial.

To anyone with half a brain cell it's obvious, but for all the idiots on here, and there are a lot of them;

- Goldberg had a shit load more natural charisma.
- Goldberg had a much more genuine aura about him.
- Goldberg was quite clearly a far better, faster, more powerful athlete.
- Goldberg had a better, more varied move set.
- Goldberg looked more intimidating.
- Goldberg was the original, and no rip off, poor mans, wannabe who is beneath him in every way is ever going to over shadow him.

Everything about Ryback feels forced and unoriginal, everything about Goldberg looked and felt natural.

I'm a Ryback fan but this is pretty obvious. It's all mentioned above.

I remember watching the elimination chamber in 2003 and Goldberg cleaning house. Something I will never forget. He had such huge speed for someone his size and his strength was wicked too. Ryback gets tired and slows down all the god damn time.

because goldberg doesnt look like a big huge slow freak of a man...

goldberg was big but not huge, he had incredible strength and was fast in the ring.
ryback is huge. isnt as strong as he looks, and is soo slow you could run rings round him...

so one looks intense fast athletic and inescapable.

the other looks intense and easy to escape.

also add to that goldbergs intensity and presence felt more legit than rybacks overly done im crazy eyes foamy mouth look.

also goldberg didnt have a cheesy shit line " feed me more " to take away from his im badass gimmick.
