Is this the worst ever period in the WWE

Was thinking about this last night, is the current roster and storylines some of the worst in the history of WWE, in 2008 when WWE's roster wasnt held in too much regard there was still Edge, Shawn Michaels, Batista, HHH and Taker wrestling reguarly, Orton in a more significant role, Jericho, Jeff Hardy, and of course Cena.

You look to now and being honest the only real established stars left are John Cena, and now of course CM Punk, Orton has been downgraded to the upper midcard, Ziggler, Sheamus etc are being groomed to be stars but are still quite abit off, how poor the current roster is, is really demonstrated with how Kane and Big Show are being used, which is so much more significantly when before they'd just job to the top guys, and most of the time the up and coming young guys. The storylines are now so child based its almost embarassing watching WWE unless your under 10, i think the Christmas episode demonstrated this the most.

My point is i think significant recruitment and dedication and commitment into making new people stars is desperatly needed, or its going to get very difficult to care, its very poor to see the WWE relying on cameo appearances from HHH, Rock and Lesnar to make the major PPV's watchable. I honestly cant think of a worst period in the last 20 years possibily more than now

WWE is in transition mode, they made the mistake of course by focusing on Cena for too long so that never helped. I think this time next year WWE will be in a good place, Ziggler is coming up, Ryback is over, we got the shield, cesaro, sandow plenty of good talent they just need time and I think that come 2014 WWE will be red hot.

Back in late 1996-1997 how many stars did WWE have?
Main eventers:
Bret Hart
Stone Cold
Undertaker
Shawn Michaels

... Yeh, that's pretty much it, but Raw back then was a great show (apart from the The Patriot getting a WWE Title shot which was just stupid and only fed Bret's anti-American gimmick).

They try to rebuild the roster and that's a goo thing. I would be ok with the WWE if they would sacrifice 2013 trying to build new talents, and then 2014 to be an awesome year. I can understand them, then

I think last year was worse. At least they're finally creating new stars. Cesaro, Ambrose, Ryback, Sandow, Ziggler among others plus the talent in NXT makes it pretty easy to be optimistic for the future.

Current storylines are horrendous but hopefully they can tie them up quickly and get on with the road to Wrestlemania.

How can someone take your opinion seriously when you write "draw's" instead of "draws"?

Do you really think quality has anything to do with popularity and "drawing power"? The general public's opinion is certainly not a measure of quality, especially in a medium that's known for their uneducated audience. That's why the Twilight movies and Justin Bieber are popular and Bela Tarr and Wayne Shorter are not.

It's unbelievable how many times I've read that imbecile argument on this forum.

Stopped watching for a lot of years, but 2012 is surely one of the worst years considering the total lack of star power. When you remove the few matches from HHH,Rock,Undertaker,Lesnar and you get the picture.

In the same time the year is excellent when you take the amount of emerging new talent such as Sandow,Cezaro,The Shield etc.

This is not the worst year and 2013 will be better.

I don't like how everybody find excuses to the WWE. They are maybe in a transitionnal period but come on. That's why they can't do great storyline ? That's why THE ROCK VS JOHN CENA GET ONE OF THE WORST RIVALRY OF ALL TIME ????
It was mediocre, that's all and there is no excuse to this. The booking was bad because it was bad

I lived through 1995, 2002, 2007, & 2009, so it is really hard for me to say that this is the worst year in company history.
Am I the only one who thought 2007 was a good year? Sure, the Chris Benoit situation overshadows everything that happened that year but when I remove the Benoit situation, I think it was a good year. Of course they had some shitty moments such as the Texas Bull-Rope match at The Bash, HHH's shitty return at SS, but yeah.

Or maybe it's because I was 11 at the time, I don't know. :lmao

In terms of starpower, that period in 2011 just after losing Edge and just before CM Punk's shoot where freaking R-Truth was challenging for the WWE Championship, that would probably have this beat. Like, they weren't trying with new people at all around that time. Now we can say we have Sheamus, Daniel Bryan and other names that have been around. At that time they just didn't care, and were content with Cena vs (insert random challenger) for however many months until The Rock returned to face him. I shudder to think what the rest of that year would have been like if CM Punk had just done his bit and left.

I think WWE are in a good place right now, far more so than last year, at the coming Wrestlemania the talent available is better than there has been for years. Guys like Ziggler and Bryan are getting better and better. There are many exciting prospects that have been brought through in the last 12 months, Cesaro, Ryback, Sandow... and to top it off, John Cena isn't quite as invincible any more.

It's a weak roster in terms of star power, but this period is by far better than 2009-10 shitty year of guest hosts and whatnot. 2011/12 has been good in my view. There are a lot of exciting new talents for the smart fans. Lack of starpower is more so WWE's problem. I don't care about most of the guys being away, even Edge, who's one of my all time favorites.

Yes, it is. WWE is very terrible right now for a few reasons:

1. Over-pushing of certain wrestlers *coughAJcough* She's a prime example. In 2012 her push has done more to hurt them than anything else. She's been made to look more important than the WWE title and MITB contract. She can't act. She's average looking at best and has never had a good match on WWE TV. She needs to go back to the divas division as she has the Midas touch in reverse...everything she touches turns to shit.

2. A lot of the younger guys just don't have "it". Be honest...are you really willing to pay $50+ bucks a month to buy ppv's headlined by Dolph Ziggler? Come on now...really? Dolph Ziggler...you might stream ppv's but I highly doubt he will ever convince people to shell out their hard earned money just to watch him.

3. The Storylines are trash. Horrible...God-awful non sense shit that's just ridiculous to even watch.

Until they fix this mess then things are only going to get worse.

Undertaker & HBK in '96 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Randy Orton...ever

Taker and HBK were main eventers in 1996. Randy Orton was once a main eventer and multiple time world champion, but for the past year has had absolutely no direction whatsoever. He's been in the upper mid-card for around a year now. Undertaker and HBK were main eventers in 1996 and at no time in the 90s ever went back to the upper midcard.

1995 was easily way worse than what it is now. You still had jobbing matches and raw was basically what superstars is today. Diesel as the champion with feuds with men like mabel was the absolute low point from 94 in the modern era for the wwe. Cena is a bigger star than bret of 96 as bret didn't have the luxury of wcw not breathing down wwf's neck.

Yes. Worst period for actual characters (there are like 4 on the whole roster), worst period for storylines, worst period for wrestling being relevant in mainstream media. in fact, the only thing that is the "best ever" of this period is production.

And to those saying "transitional period". 2 years ago people were saying it was a transitional period. I would agree with that. They are no longer in a transitional period, it's just the result of the period sucks.

This last year has been generally awful. Fans want to watch the in-ring action, not dumb-ass, macho comedy routines from blown up, over-muscled guys who should be kept well away from comedy routines for which they are ill fitted. We very rarely see top quality wrestling matches of the kind that made stars out of guys like Dave Smith and Bret Hart, who were the outstanding performers when WWE was at its height.

Yep it is rather dire at mo at the moment i watch a few raws and find ppvs good most of time.

Wrost ever time for me was mid 2009 with the whole guest host rubbish.

Wwe has plenty of stars of the future (and now) in there hands like cena, punk, ziggler, sheamus, orton they just pushing some of the talent enough
