THQ, the publisher of games like the Saints Row series, the Red Faction series, the Company of Heroes series, and WWE's line of wrestling games has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

Though really, everyone was expecting this to happen anyway, though much, much sooner. Among their problems, they owe WWE $45 million as per their multi-year agreement (whatever that is... or was). Vince... is obviously none too happy.

Looks like WWE '14 will be made by someone else, just not THQ.

I don't see why people want EA to make them, EA is a pile of shit.
They perform hostile takeovers of other studios then fuck them over by changing their games until they're nothing like the original product, Ex: Insomniac Studios were making a light hearted third person shooter ; which had lots of comedy, jokes and just fun ; EA took over and turned it into yet another "gritty" humorless shooter ala Gears of War. They're also responsible for the shit that was Dragon Age 2 and Mass Effect 3.

I don't think you understand that nothing. Repeat: Nothing is worse than THQ/Yukes. Laughable hit detection, input lag, horrible graphics, rotten animations... all buried under OMG NEW COSTUMZE! OMG NEW ARENAZ!!1

All pointless when the core gameplay is radioactive hog shit.

The major problem THQ had, that eventually led to its downfall was licensed games. As an avid gamer, and THQ fan, I kept up with alot of their struggles. You can't keep paying licensing fees, and the games not sell well and keep the company afloat. Not to mention they didn't have many triple A games.

EA does wonders with their 2 top licensed games, FIFA and Madden. Vince would bust a nut if the WWE games sold like FIFA or Madden. FIFA sold 7mil copies in its first week worldwide this year. I'm certain WWE 13 was no where near that.

THQ only distributes the games. Yukes is responsible for developing the game. I would imagine that Yukes will simply find another company to distribute their products. I would imagine that WWE would rather stick with Yukes if they can find a different distributor. Yukes has already invested a great deal of time and money to create a solid foundation to build upon and improve. It would be much more costly to find a new developer, code a new game from scratch, negotiate contracts & licenses etc.

Sad but not surprising.

They did great work with WCW Revenge and then saved us WWE fans by getting the rights to the WWE brand and releasing WM 2000 and No Mercy which were huge improvements over what Acclaim had been provided us.

No Mercy is still my favorite game ever. WWE SmackDown! Shut Your Mouth, WWE SmackDown! Here Comes the Pain and WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW were really good games too. I thought Smackdown started getting stale around 2006 even though the game that year had a solid group of wrestlers, arenas etc. I just haven't enjoyed a Smackdown game since about 2005.

The newer ones WWE13 etc. look cool but I never bothered upgrading to a newer console because the only games I like are wrestling and I feared upgrading wouldn't be worth it if the games sucked. That happened with the original XBox. I bought the original XBox in the early 2000's thinking we'd surely get better games than ever with the new technology but all the wrestling games released to that console sucked beyond belief. A total waste of money.

Shame, I enjoyed Red Factions 1 and 2. Wicked game play.

@the guy saying Mass Effect 3 sucked: the conclusion of the story was unsatisfying, but the game play itself was great.

What's with the THQ hate here? They proved in the past they could put out good wrestling games. Unfortunately, they suffered from the same thing the sports franchises suffer from. How do they improve on a yearly basis besides graphics and roster updates? You could literally not buy the next installments for 3 years and you'd have missed nothing. Smackdown HCTP was awesome, I played the hell out of that game. All the Smackdowns were awesome (except Just Bring It, that was shit). SVR 1 was great as well. After that...it was "how can we pad this out for another year." I haven't played the newer ones because I refuse to give the Fed my business anymore.

Seriously, there are so many video games snobs in this thread its unreal. I keep hearing "oh this element of the game was shit, the company is always shit, blah blah blah, EA is so terrible, THQ was never good, etc." Must be awful being you, since nothing ever makes you happy and you always complain. In fact, you'd probably better just stop playing video games altogether because evidently you only tolerate perfection, and you'll never get the perfect video game. Seriously, to say both company were always bad and never put out a good game in their existence is so fucking idiotic.

"Those companies that hold THQ's debt will get 10 cents on the dollar in exchange for forgiving the rest, assuming the bankruptcy court approves the deal. Investors who hold stock in the company? They're screwed -- and likely won't see a penny on their returns, though expect the class action suits to be filed real soon."
