What would you do to modernize wrestling
That's one thing that makes the Attitude Era really good, they modernize wrestling, it was cool again and right now, it seems like the WWE try to moderniaze the product with Twitter, Tout, Soap-Opera story but it really suck. So here's my question. What would you do to modernize wrestling ?

Re: What would you do to modernize wrestling
I find it ironic that despite the popular comeback of scripted shows, WWE has been taking a nosedive.
I strongly suggest to hire younger writers, particularly actual wrestling fans.
One more thing that came into my mind is wrestling fans creating a show of their own. I know it sounds ridiculous at first, but there appears to be a VERY strong niche for that market.

Re: What would you do to modernize wrestling
shoot more angles outside of the arena reality tv style. for example i would have dolph, cena, and other guys working out at a gym and they begin shouting across the gym at each other, and eventually other wrestlers have to keep them apart to avoid a fight. then afterwards have them do confessionals about the incident like they would on those shows. it would replace the stupid backstage skits and interviews, while also making the in arena interviews and promos more important.

Shootfighting.
Seriously. You can even continue to script some aspects of it if you'd like. But make it more real.

Interesting point and idea. Any idea how you would do this? I tried to think of ways but its tough.
I just cant see the wrestlers actually beat the crap out of each other unless the incentive is there like in MMA.

They should do a modern, updated Brawl for All with MMA rules. Even with mid-carders, it would be awesome to see who can kick whose ass in WWE. Of course, guys that get their asses handed to them would be released thus giving them a reason for everyone to give it their all.
Also, the winner would receive 1,000,000 dollars and a chance to challenge the current WWE champion (hopefully Cena) to a shoot-fight for the title. (OK, the second part is a bit much but I would LOVE it personally)

Re: What would you do to modernize wrestling
Realism -> damn wrestlers aren't just ballerina, they are actually badass :
- training footages (I love them in MMA).
- reality TV (training and interacting outside the arenas).
- secondary show made to explain the events outside the arenas.
- backstage actions focused on matches.
- ranking (massive ladder tournament to determine the challengers for titles).
- more freaking tournaments for belts (instead of improptu matches).
- faces aren't invincible and heels aren't losers.
- you can win without a finisher.
- realistic selling of moves.
- submission matters.
- more wrestling.
Writing :
- better writing.
- less comedy.
- less soap operas.
- prepare storylines for one period of two months and stop changing them during shows.
- short and percussive vignettes just before the match instead of long promos during weeks.
- bad ass entrances but with less pyros (think Goldberg).
- no love stories.
- find other ideas than respect.
Marketing :
- less social media.
- focused commentators speaking about the current matches and wrestlers.
- copy UFC marketing methods.
- divide WWE in three shows (RAW = realist, NXT = keep it as it's, Smackdown in between).

Re: What would you do to modernize wrestling
People tap out of submissions frequently more often, even if it aint their finisher.
