Once Upon A Maneuver36: Mandible Claw
Once a most feared finisher in the line of ankle lock for submission and also considered to be disgusting by some and a joke by others for the idea was that the opponent can easily bite his way out, Mankind used it famously and made it his signature.
Originally invented by The Killer Sam Sheppard O.D, Osteopathic Physician by profession who became a wrestler briefly following his imprisonment and acquittal based on his knowledge of neurosurgery and his image of a dangerous killer having been accused of murdering his own wife.
Who do you think can take up this move as a finisher and did you believe it was dangerous when you first saw it?

I've never liked it as a finisher, it just doesn't look like it hurts.

I like that finishing move and yes, I believe it was dangerous. I mean, a hand directly into the throat. That must be painful

Re: Once Upon A Maneuver36: Mandible Claw
When Mankind used the actual claw as a heel, it would have been a devastating nerve hold when applied correctly. Obviously, it got watered down and turned into a comedic device once it got converted to using Mr. Socko but the original hold used by Mankind is legit.

Re: Once Upon A Maneuver36: Mandible Claw
I never understood it as a kid. I always just wondered why the guy in the hold wouldn't just bite the shit out of Mankind as soon as Mankind's hand went into his mouth.
Socko made the move more comedic but he was a babyface then so it fit. I still think a dirty sock that a husky looking dude like Mick hides down his pants getting jammed into your mouth is still pretty disgusting though.

Re: Once Upon A Maneuver36: Mandible Claw
it worked well as a finisher as it as it was a bad looking hold that probs looked to us like it wasnt doing anything or having any effect on the opponents of mankind, but it paralyzed the opponents of mankind there ko them plus mankind was the 1st person in history to defeat the undertaker with a submission hold after the deadman went unconscious

Your presuming Manking can feel pain.
Its one of those finishers that are legit but dont get taken seriously, such as the Samoan Spike by Umaga. A thumb to the throat is devistating. Try feeling your Adams apple and tell me it doesn't feel uncomfortable. Similarly a sock, hell anything, to the throat would make people feel sick.

As a kid, yeah, it scared the shit out of me.
Then again, I believe Mankind and Kane scared the shit out of me generally...
