It's funny -- his good clean "hoooooooo" is usually the punchline to an obscene joke whenever he shows up in WWE these days.

I actually agree with Duggan. I got turned off by Attitude Era and beyond myself and prefer watching indy's like TCW and more family oriented stuff, its what I grew up on and its what I enjoy. To each their own.

He should just say Austin's name because that's who he's talking about.

Hacksaw should of been forced to retire and never be seen again in 1987.

What the fuck does Jim Duggan know, honestly?

I guess I shouldn't be so annoyed by him stating his opinion but nobody needs a glorified jobber telling people what wrestling needs. Fuck off. Sorry we're no longer in the days of Honkey Tonk and Ken Patera, old man.

I will hazard a guess and say he knows a whole hell of a lot more about wrestling than you do.

Re: Jim Duggan says Wrestling Doesn’t Need Beer-Swilling and Middle Finger Gestures

He's right to an extent. They didn't need this, 30 years ago. Wrestling (WWF) really popular back in the 80's & early 90's, and the product was very similar to the one we have today, brother!

But people got sick of it thus why in 94~95 it had a major downfall, and that's where Attitude Era took place, it was something different.

Another reason is that fans of the previous generation regarding the present one, can't get over the fact that their favorite wrestlers aren't on TV anymore, and even though some of the newer guys are as good, and maybe even better than some of the ones they grew up watching, they refuse to accept such thing. But like all generations new fans are born, and I'm sure this one won't be any different

And the same thing is happening today. It was decent while it lasted, but now it's just getting stale. All we can hope for is a major product change in the future, which I think we are not going to see anytime soon sadly.

When did I even imply that I know more than he does about wrestling? There's a guy in every wrestling related thread that uses this cop out.

He knows more about the business than anyone here because he's been in the business. No one is disputing this. That doesn't change the fact that his thoughts are dated as hell. He's putting down an era that represents the opposite of everything his did so of course he's gunna be displeased.

That doesn't change the fact that he's also making a reference to an era that was the peak of professional wrestling worldwide so clearly the masses enjoyed it.

The guy has been wrestling for over 30 years. I'm pretty sure he knows a whole hell of a lot more than you do.

And he's right, wrestling doesn't need obscene gestures and middle fingers to be entertaining. The Attitude Era was, in essence, a fad. It was a way to compete with WCW, to push the envelope to get better viewers and numbers than WCW. It wasn't long-term or anything, after WCW went out of business they went back to "family entertainment," what made WWE famous in the first place.

I don't understand why people are taking what he said so personally, it's his opinion anyway. Some people have to realize that wrestling didn't begin and end with the Attitude Era.

You all may make fun of people with "IT'S STILL REAL TO ME DAMN IT!" for the young kids or marks or whatever, but you guys are even worse than them. You have this deep-seeded legitimate rage for Cena and his fans to the point where you let it affect your day to day life.

Grow up. Seriously.
