Re: How would you make faces likeable again? (create/recreate a top babyface)
I think that the roles have been reversed. That's the reason why more and more people root for the heels. They are the underdog every-single time. They never take dominant wins. The last real heel in my opinion was Mark Henry.
On the other side you see faces to destroy everyone in their path.

Make Cena and Sheamus less corny and make them lose their Super overcoming the odds gimmicks.

1) He's my postman
2) I'm the caretaker for his swimming pool when he's on the road
3) He lives in my basement
4) I taught him everything he knows about wrestling
5) He was in my high school math class but he got kicked out for cheating off me.
Moral of the story: Everyone needs to laugh every once in a while.

It's hard to cheer someone who doesn't even act human. My advice is, pull the joystick plugs out of their asses and let them look/act humanoid from time to time.
Also, if you're supposed to be playing a likeable underdog you probably shouldn't win 80% of your matches and lose the remaining 20% via interference/blatant cheating, etc.

And what did that drug addict have that none of the current babyfaces have again?
Maybe we should transfer it to the current faces of the company, if that is possible.

That, and I think the key to that is having some sort of trait that actually makes the audience sympathise with them and not the heel. Dusty Rhodes was the 'common man' and it worked wonders for him, and of course Austin had a massive chip on his shoulder that endeared people. Those are the two main guys I think of that have very natural and very human appeal to them, whereas someone like Cena doesn't have the "weakness" so to speak, except for the fact that he's booed. And when he gets booed, he panders, which is just not the way of fixing that at all.
I think another thing that's needed is earlier exposure of the stars. Because someone like Sheamus is pretty new in the grand scheme, and all of a sudden he's meant to be a top guy. Whereas if you look at someone like Edge, the audience saw him from when he was very young in a tag team, to at the end of his career as a world champion, and he had the appeal of being a familiar face instead of just some random.

Little changes to character every once in a while.
Even SCSA got boring after awhile.

Re: How would you make faces likeable again? (create/recreate a top babyface)
Stop making the bad guys likeable or funny. They need to be despised, detested mother-fuckers, not people that get cheers. If a villain does something that gets a positive reaction, tell them to stop doing it. Your good guys are only as strong as your bad guys make them.
Instead of having some chiseled up dude covered in body oil & fake tan coming out to tell the local city that their sports team sucks, have a sloppy looking dude throw a fucking fireball in John Cena's face & tell him that his family & his country sucks & should be eradicated. Drag his best friend behind a truck with a rope tied to his leg. Set his fucking house on fire. Show his wife in a hospital bed from an assault. No one is fucking cheering that shit, even ironically.
Then when a babyface finally gets his hands on that guy, whew.

Re: How would you make faces likeable again? (create/recreate a top babyface)
I think it would make a big difference if there were actual story arcs as far as their character development goes. One of the biggest problems with characters today in wrestling is that they more or less debut with their full gimmicks instead of just letting them unfold as their early career progresses.
I think of Batista who started out as just a ruthless heel enforcer. I don't recall him ever being that over during his heel run, even for the midcarder status he was barely hanging onto for the duration. Yet in the buildup to the Royal Rumble, we saw a story developing where he had a very believable reason to turn face. They played through it and he went from being a nobody to the biggest face of the company in just a few months. He was more over than even Cena for a while I believe.
