Once upon a maneuver14: Cutter

A three quarter facelock bulldog technically, cutter is one of the most popularly used snap finishers that can be pulled out of nowhere and does not need much set up compared to others. It can also be done on opponents of bigger, equal and smaller size(a bit more difficult in my opinion) as it does not need power or strength with no lifting involved in the basic version.

DDP took the cutter to new heights as Diamond Cutter pulling it out of odd situations and setting up in innovative ways night after night making the finisher a force to be reckon with. Originally Ace Crusher used by Johnny Ace, the name cutter came up from Diamond Cutter of DDP. Other wrestlers to have used it includes Bart Gunn, Hardys, Marc Mero, HHH (seen him use it during his early days) and now, most famously, RKO of Randy Orton.

There are many variations in this as with any other that includes versions where the opponent is even carried.

Whose cutter do you like the most and do you think RKO will or has taken over DDP's cutters in terms of mainstream popularity?

Re: Once upon a maneuver14: Cutter

DDP is the absolute master of Cutter and if Orton did it 500x more he would still never surpass it. Diamond Cutter was just on it's own level. Right beside Tombstone, Stunner, Burning Hammer and Tiger Driver. Just watch this and you'll see what i mean.

More notable users: Hardys, Johnny Ace, Satoshi Kojima, Randy Orton, Homicide and BIG POPPA PUMP SCOTT STEINER.

We who have seen DDP in action know that he is to cutter what Taker is to Tombstone and Austin is to Stunner. But guys who started watching post 2002, would RKO become the cutter or will it stay relevant with DDP as Stunner is with Austin even after such a long time?

Even though DDP's version is great, I personally prefer the RKO. One of the most awesome finishers ever.

Re: Once upon a maneuver14: Cutter

My favorite variation of the cutter is the twist of fate. I know it's not the best, I just love the fact it's name matches the twisting motion of the finisher.

And the RKO has already surpassed the Diamond Cutter in mainstream popularity, you can't really debate that. Now which one is a better everyman is just preference I guess. The jump to the cutter that orton added has made a move that was already legendary, even more so. Both are fun moves to watch in the end though.

What? DDP and the Cutter were a mainstream phenomenon during the wrestling's hottest years. Nobody even knows who Orton is, let alone RKO being mainstream.
