Look backing on Triple H's title runs in 1999.
I remember years back there was a thread on here saying that HHH "wasn't ready" for the belt when he won it in 1999. I don't really think this is true, for the first 2 weeks HHH had the belt he did seem like a credible champion, practically because all of the main eventers put him over every Raw/Smackdown. HHH's reign went downhill when Austin came back, after the first 2 weeks of HHH being put over by all of the main eventers, Austin returned and practically got the upperhand on HHH nearly every week up until Survivor Series that year, including the infamous Smackdown where HHH lost the belt to Vince because of Austin. I honestly think Austin taking time off was the best thing to happen to HHH, because as long as Austin was there it would've been hard for HHH to actually have a good run with the belt.

I have to agree. HHH even said it in Austin's Dvd. Austin leaving was good not just HHH, but even for the Rock. Austin was going to be the face of the company(rightfully so, he built the era) as long he was there.

The funny thing was Austin had a knee injury at the time, so he wasn't even wrestling much when this was going on.

No, just HHH. There was plans for Austin to turn heel shortly before he took extended time off, if anything Austin taking time off not only helped HHH get more over, but saved Austin's face heat.

Yeah Austin didnt want to put him over at summerslam, but its all water under the bridge now. From what I understand HHH not only has a good relationship with Austin but also considers him top 15 greatest wrestler in wrestling history. He himself wrote that in his body-building book "Making the Game: Triple H".
No, The Rock as well. Everyone knows it.

There was plans for Austin to turn heel shortly before he took extended time off, by late 1999 they could've afford to turn Austin heel. Obviously turning Austin heel in '98 would've been financial suicide.

No, that is not true. Austin was still the biggest star at the time. HHH was already over big as a heel prior to Survivor Series.

Bro, I've read all of the original news report from 1999 on the sites like liveaudiowrestling from August-November in that time frame on waybackmachine and I can tell you that Austin was not the whole show by then. Do you know why Austin was so successful in 1998-mid 1999? He had Vince McMahon to play off, once that storyline was done Austin was not the same. Yeah still got pops but by August 1999 Austin was missing nearly every live event and the fans didn't care.
But judging by your poster I already know I might be talking to another fanboy.

Not true again, Survivor series PPV lost buys big without Austin. I've explained it here -

LOL right. The Rock was successful only because of his catchphrases and comedy on the mic. You know it's true.

How old are you, seriously? If you didn't have an Austin pic as your avatar I'd take you more seriously.
And since you wanna talk about buyrates, the Summerslam 1999 buyrate was 100,000 buys lower than Summerslam 1998. This despite the fact that the WWF had more fans in August 1999 than they did in August 1998.
So in other words, your "buyrate propaganda" is complete garbage.
