Golden Era vs Attitude Era, Which do you prefer?

Most of us grew up during the Attitude Era admiring the likes of Stone Cold, The Rock, DQ, Mankind etc..the moment I got into wrestling was HBK vs Bret Hart in the 60-minute Iron man match. Have been watching since then. (stopped watching in-between 2007-2011). The AE was rough. It was wild. It was violent it was everything teens loved and it was mainstream again. Not only great matches but great feuds and arguably the best feud ever SCSA vs Vince.

Then you have the other generation of wrestlingfans who grew up watching Hulkamania and Machoman Randy Savage. Rowdy, Andre and many more. A very cartoony era with 1 big megastar and a variation of heels going against him.

Out of those two BOOM eras, which do you prefer? Or do you prefer other eras? Name them and verify your decision.

I assume people prefer the era that they grew up with, especially the ones that grew up with the attitude era because they didn't experience the Golden Era. Saying that, isn't this a kind of pointless thread/poll?

Re: Golden Era vs Attitude Era, Which do you prefer?

All though I grew up watching the attitude era, being able to look back I much prefer The Golden Era. Imho it had better tag team wrestling and mid card wrestling than the Attitude Era and as a whole I prefer more psychology based/classic wrestling. Not saying I didn't like the attitude era, I just preferred the Golden Era/Hogan Era/Rock 'N' Wrestling Era.

Re: Golden Era vs Attitude Era, Which do you prefer?

Well the Monday night wars led to far better tv so it's really hard to compare. I think 98 and 99 WWF is seriously lacking in good matches while the tv show was fun for angles I don't think very much of it holds up. 1997 and 2000 were great years for WWF. There was a serious lack of wrestling talent in the AE until Jericho, Angle, Eddie, Benoit, and Malenko showed up.

IMO the roster from the eraly 90's smokes the AE era roster of the late 90's, but the format and change in direction led to better tv in the late 90's. The WWF has always been built around the top guy and Austin was a far more compelling character to build around than Hogan.

The AE produced more memorable stuff, but I think the talent was better in the golden era. I'd have loved to see what the 1992 roster could do if they had a head to head show against WCW with the freedom of the AE era. For what it's worth NWA/WCW was better than WWF for about every year from 1985-1997 except for maybe 1993 and 95 when both company's were awful(95 I mean I love WWF in 93 way underrated). Austin saved WWF from going out of buisness imo.

Re: Golden Era vs Attitude Era, Which do you prefer?

Attitude all the way. I hate the Golden Era, not a fan of the style of characters they had back then, and even as a kid I hated Hulk Hogan, so to have him in control of an era pissed me off. Never understood why a single person would like him, I was an Undertaker guy. Now I started in late 1990, so I'll freely admit I didn't live through the Golden Era at its peak but still, looking back on it I've always hated it.

What everyone really wants for Christmas:

As you can see, the post below yours doesn't agree with what you said. If you grew up during the Golden Era. You can still prefer AE as it was aimed at all ages.

Personally I prefer the Attitude Era because it featured my favorite wrestler of all time Stone Cold Steve Austin and like Pyro I hate Hogan. I like comic books and comic book movies but having them wrestle...meh it's not my style. Although I'm a big fan of the promo work back in that time Jake Roberts, Piper, Flair

I think he was probably more referring to the fact that this poll is obviously going to favour the attitude era, considering the majority of people here are attitude era fanboys. Also, I am an exception to the rule, most people on this site probably grew up during the attitude era and think it is blasphemy if anyone dare criticise the attitude era.

Golden Era

To be more specific, I'd say my favorite time was the 80's territory days when I grew up watching WWF, NWA, AWA, WCCW and Memphis wrestling.

Re: Golden Era vs Attitude Era, Which do you prefer?

I grew up as an NWA/WCW fan during the late 80's and only really began watching WWE properly around the time The Road Warriors joined WWE in mid 1990 due to being big fans of theirs although i had watched WWE from the late 80's through PPV videos that were bought for me by family members. As soon as i began watching WWE i enjoyed it as i loved The Ultimate Warrior, Randy Savage, Dusty Rhodes and The Road Warriors and that carried on through until 1995 which was the peak of The New Generation Era.

So i was fortunate enough to have seen both era's and i couldn't really choose between either because both era's were mainly storyline focused rather than being about match quality as The New Generation Era and the current era were and are. I grew up watching such legendary feuds as Hogan/Andre, Hogan/Warrior, Savage/Warrior, Savage/Flair, Savage/Roberts, Warrior/Rude, Roberts/DiBiase and Road Warriors/Demolition through The Golden Era and then in my teens saw Austin/McMahon, Austin/Rock, Michaels/Hart, Michaels/Undertaker, Rock/Triple H, Benoit/Jericho and Edge & Christian/Hardys/Dudleys and all entertained me in different ways.
