Wrestler Year 9: Mick Foley
 

Almost forgot about Mick. So what's your favorite year(s) of Foley?

For me, i'll go with 1996 - 1997 Foley. Back when he was heel Mankind, and was psychotic. His feud with Undertaker was great, I don't think anyone ever had Undertaker's number like Mankind did when they first started feuding, except for maybe Jake Roberts. Apart from that, he was just such a great character back then, but of course I find it hard to hate most of Foley's characters even Dude Love.

P.S I've added TNA to his list, but i'm not adding the years between.

It's a tough one. 1996 Mankind was quite frankly a masterpiece. The first guy to ever make The Undertaker seem human and intimidated. From the pulling out of the hair to the rocking in the corner of the ring to the sensational promos and matches. He managed to channel the inner rage of Cactus Jack and expand on it to a new level. In my opinion the greatest heel performance of all time.

For promos it was ECW 1994-1995 he cut some of the greatest promos of all time then, they where great had real meaning and depth be hide them. he played his gimmick so well it was like he was really Cactus Jack and not Mick Foley just playing a gimmick. You could say the same for his early mankind days to when he played his gimmick so well.

For matches it has to be 2000 when he and Triple H where putting on the best matches of the year with the Hell in a Cell match and the greatest street fight of all time at the Royal Rumble ( this was also Triple H best matches ever).

If i had to pick between his ECW run and the year 2000 it would be ECW, thats when i think he was at his best.

Yeah, ECW Cactus Jack was a mighty close second. 'Anti-Hardcore' and 'Cane Dewey' promos are just breathtaking, considering that they were all his own doing. I chose 1996 Mankind because he knew that fans would only compare him to Cactus Jack, however he got himself psyched so much into the Mankind character that people quickly took on to that character on his own, with calls for wanting Cactus Jack to make a comeback quickly evaporating.

Big fan of Foley so this isn't easy, but 96-97 his character was perfect.

Cane Dewey was one of my favourite promos he cut in ecw, Theres another i really like, where he's sat in the dark saying sometime like he was late to the arena because he couldn't remember way. The way the tone of his voice keeps changing out of no where is unreal he just goes for talking in his soft slow style voice to screaming at the camera and right back to soft talking a few seconds later.

Apart from maybe the Undertaker no one has been able to in brace their gimmick as well as Mick Foley.

I need to go back and watch more from 96 i cant remember much he did in that time. The one thing i do remember is his interview with JR, which i think is the best mic work he did in wwe.

It's this one, which i think was in 96?

This was in June 1997. Mankind was kinda stuck in a rut around this time as he was still considered a heel, but he was getting cheers and he started introducing elements of humour. This whole interview was straight from Foley's mind, but still in the character of Mankind. Of course this interview was the catalyst for the debut of Dude Love a month later, which is perhaps my ultimate WWE feel-good moment. I was grinning inanely for the duration of it.
