I believe it's related to the best usage of the holds in wrestling, but I'm not sure. Hope it helped anyway.

Turnstile gates.

Turnstiles are generally used for paying punters.

So, they just use the term "gates" to show the numbers.

It means attendance 'at the gate' of an event. So live events, house shows and PPV's the attendance.

The ranking means who drew the most attendance at events they headlined.
