is being the biggest draw a good enough reason to be considered the goat ?

Guys like Hogan,Austin,Rock etc..... are always in the top 5 when mentioning the goat in the business..

when we think of the greatest actors of all times.. the guys who win the oscars and are genuinely seen to be the best in the business aint typically your biggest draws or money makers....

1) You have your Arnies,Stallones..etc..... all fantastically entertaining megastars in there own way. and put butts on seats on name alone, larger than life characters... but none of them would be considered great actors by any means and i would put Hogan/Cena in with this lot.

2)You have your Cruises/ Will Smiths etc.... Megastars also but also have decent acting chops and also highly entertaining but rarely win the best actor awards or get highly placed on the all time great lists and i would put Austin/Rock... in this category.

3) you have deniros/pacinos/hoffmans... etc all regarded as some of the best actors of all time, have built up a legacy over a long time and given some of the best performances in cinema.. they are superstars but not in the same level as the above mega A list stars ... they have grossed as much money as the names above but have done it in double the amount of years as the others with longer careers and are always topping the greatest actors lists for there performances and not there money making capabilities..... i would put undertaker/hbk/flair.

So what im getting at is that although the guys in 1 and 2 are bigger A list names... (yes deniro and pacino is known amongst movie lovers but to the average teen theyve probably most likely heard of the tom cruises or brad pitts.same way most non wrestling fan will know hogan and cena and the rocks.. before your flairs and hbks.

When the greatest ever actors lists get compiled the huge mega a list stars dont tend to fare very well against the guys in number 3.... so why is this not the case when compiling the goat wrestlers ?

Re: is being the biggest draw a good enough reason to be considered the goat ?

When talking about GOATs in wrestling people usually take into consideration a number of things like Talent(wrestling ability, mic skills, charisma, etc.), ability to draw(star power) and effect on the business.

If you put all those things into consideration Hogan, Austin, Rock fit into that list. They all had the talent, star power and had a huge effect on the business. This is why I would consider them GOATS.

I consider Flair a GOAT. I don't know why anyone wouldn't but Taker & HBK, I don't. They had the talent and to a certain affect an affect on the business, nothing close to Austin, Rock & Hogan tho, but they lacked star power. They aren't a household name outside of WWE like Austin, Rock, Hogan or Flair.

Eh I'd say Undertaker is more well known outside of wrestling than Ric Flair is.

yeah i agree but at the same time hbk, flairs etc.... might not be the household names but could wrestle circles round those other guys.... and if this were the movie industry the actors who could act circles round the big household names would be topping the best actors lists of all time so why is this not the case in wrestling ?

Re: is being the biggest draw a good enough reason to be considered the goat ?

I'll put it this way. When I say Austin is the best ever, I'm not using his drawing as the criteria whatsoever, I say it because I legitimately believe he's the best, most entertainer performer ever, but I'll use the drawing to benefit an argument.

Also, comparing wrestling to acting is apples and oranges. The reason the biggest drawing actors aren't considered the GOAT's is because films aren't one giant company that will live or die based on revenue like a wrestling companies will.

When I think "Greatest Of All Time", I am thinking of the most well-known and impactful wrestlers, not my favorites. I'd have people like Hulk Hogan, Bruno Sammartino, Andre the Giant, SCSA and The Rock in a list of the greatest wrestlers in history, but Hogan would be the only one of them to appear on a list of my personal favorites.

I agree, if you are referring to best wrestler all-time then Rock and Hogan wouldn't be anywhere near guys like HBK or Flair. Nor do most people consider them to be. I guess its just the difference in meaning. Acting is a talent, whereas GOAT is more of a status in history like when people refer to celebs as A-list or B-list and so on.

Don't know if that helped but thats the best way I can explain it. lol

so in otherwards the goat are rewarded in wrestling due to keeping the business afloat/going ?

where as in the movie industry they can reward those on abilities ?

is that how you would say it ?

I don't think so. I think the name Ric Flair is still recognizable by the younger audience whereas older fans like Ric Flairs generation might not know Taker.

Re: Is being the biggest draw a good enough reason to be considered the goat?

Tyrion makes a great point. Adam Sandler's movies gross the most out of any actor at the box office. Does that mean that he's GOAT at acting? Absolutely not. Just a guy who can draw really well.

I consider Jericho as one of my personal GOAT'S, and he never drew well. I focus more on talent and entertainment.
