Also, when you mess with the suspension of disbelief threshhold of the casual fan you get the mess we saw during the Attitude Era and in ECW, with guys legitimately nearly killing themselves to get half the reaction a good sturdy wrestling match used to get back in the day.

The OP is 100% correct. Can you imagine what the WWE would be like if the new guys had the same opportunities and creative freedom those legends had/have? It's kind of unfair to make comparisons between the two generations because the older guys had an advantage over the current roster.

If Steve Austin was signed today, Stone Cold wouldn't exist. Same for the Rock, Triple H, Mick Foley etc.

I agree, and this is one of the few threads that talk about 'Hypocrisy' and actually make sense.

because they turned him into this happy-go-lucky smiling goody. His 'Celtic Warrior' Bad-ass face gimmick was what made him unique and enjoyable.

You want true wrestling? Go watch ROH or some other Indy promotion. WWE is meant for fans who like story-driven, entertaining wrestling matches with superstars who are interesting to watch.

The OP is right, watching two guys in tights rolling around with each other IS boring unless there is some emotion/story involved in the match. That is the whole point of WWE and why it got famous back in the Attitude Era, no it was not the good 'technical' wrestling matches, there is a good share of that these days too, it was the 'Attitude' that brought a lot of people into watching it.

So yeah, the real reason WWE Isn't that popular anymore is because its not following what its supposed to be 'World Wrestling Entertainment'
