Re: Who else thinks WWE are fucked?

Business wise, they aren't fucked.

Quality wise...that's another story. Its quite evident many fans have drank the Vince McMahon kool-aid. "Forget wrestling, we have another John Cena t-shirt and more social media references!" Its kinda funny, for an 'entertainment' company that bases itself on wrestling, they make the majority of their money on things that have nothing to do with wrestling. Licensing, merchandise, media, etc. Aside from WM, PPV buy rates are down for the most part, live gate attendance is down, and there's the fact that the fewest amount of people in 15 years are watching (in other words, when it has to do with wrestling, they aren't doing well). They've done a good job of scrubbing away any ties to their shamed wrestling past, much to my, and many other fans', chagrin.

Re: Who else thinks WWE are fucked?

They still make lots of money, more than the attitude era. They're also very cash rich with quite a lot sitting in the bank. It would take something similar to what supposedly happened to the dinosaurs to finish WWE off.

Re: Who else thinks WWE are fucked?

It amazes me that some people try to rush to WWE's defense and claim "they are making money". No, NO THEY ARE NOT. They are losing money badly. You don't lose over 1/2 of your stock value in 2 years unless you are bleeding money like your femoral artery got opened up. Vince has lost 500 million dollars in that time. Where did that money go? If they were making any money at all their stock would be going up. Stock experts have labeled WWE a "dead duck" stock which means they don't believe WWE will still be in business for a significant amount of time to be worth the investment risk.

You can link whatever bullshit cooked book numbers Vince puts out, but none of that changes the fact of their stock and its performance. Can't lie about that one.

Then there's the "well, TNA sucks...", except that TNA has never been at the highs that WWE was. It's small time compared to that, PLUS, their operating costs are much lower than WWEs. This analogy is so flawed. It's like if McDonalds suddenly lost over half its value, but their fans claim, "well, Ma & Pa Kettle's Kitchen down the road is small time, only has one store, and makes less money than McDonalds, therefor McDonalds is doing good."

WWE is starting to feel it to. Vince knows what is happening. He knows full well he is in deep shit unless he pulls off a miracle.

This doesn't jive at all with their stock performance so where is this magical money they claim they making going? It certainly isn't into the value of the company.

Re: Who else thinks WWE are fucked?

Sigh...

I guess it's an online forum so anyone can post what they want. Yet, I wonder why someone would take time to craft a post about wrestling dying in a wrestling forum. I guess I'm just naive to wish fans would still be fans.

Vince's net worth is directly connected to WWE Stock, so using two points on the stock price and his net worth is a waste of type.

The lowest point for Vince was a ally the steroid era. And he bounced back quite well.

Re: Who else thinks WWE are fucked?

Actually OP, 20 years ago WWE was coming into a very similar situation to the one they're in now. Star power was low and it was only getting worse. By 95 they had one of the worst rosters ever and needed a savior. Enter Stone Cold Steve Austin.

Re: Who else thinks WWE are fucked?

There are so many decisions that WWE make that I disagree with that I feel bad that they're the industry standard. A big example, WWE should have never went public.

1. The price 2 years ago was 13.4 it's now 8.25 - that's not over half.

2. Vince owns just short of 40 million shares meaning he's personally lost $206,000,000 due to that drop not the $500,000,000 you claim.

3. He still owns $330,000,000 worth of shares.

4. Their financial report for last year listed them having $155,000,000 (155 millon) cash in the bank. Their debt is 1.6 million.

5. They made a Net Income of $24,000,000 last year from total revenues of nearly $500,000,000.

6. They are a public company, they cannot "cook the books" and neither can Deloitte and Touche who do their accounts.

Finally if interested take a look here to see how they cleverly consolidated a down turn in business to make the same, and in some recent years more $ than during the Attitude Era.

Re: Who else thinks WWE are fucked?

WWE are not in trouble financially and you would have to be either paranoid or stupid to believe that. The company is still in a very stable situation and has money and shareholders behind it. Is the quality of the product in bad shape? Yes it is. Are the ratings bad? Yeah they definitely are. But they are not nearly near the trouble they were in the mid 90's, not even close. People are saying at this rate they will be dead or in trouble in 10 years. 10 years is a long time and you never know what is going to happen. You can't predict the future. It could very well be right and that in 10 years the company is in trouble. But then WWE could find its next Stone Cold Steve Austin in that time too.

Worry about the state of the product, not the state of the finance of the company. It's way too early for that.

Re: Who else thinks WWE are fucked?

As long as returning past stars like Rock, Brock, Hunter, HBK, Austin, Undertaker, and Stone Cold stay affiliated with the WWE they'll be fine. When those guys fully retire I don't see how WWE can sustain.
