You know that magical feeling when you watched wrestling as a kid? that was the territories in their prime, every night

Larger than life is a term tossed around a lot but when wrestling is isolated in your local area, its much tighter. it has a homely feel but the men in that ring look like gods to you. The Von Erichs, Dusty, Lawler, Gagne all controlled a cult like worship for many years in their prime

and dont even get me started on what would happen when Flair or Andre rolled into down. Seeing Flair taking on your idol and you hating him for rolling out somehow with the title. And Your guy, facing this, god of a man, Andre.

Mark my words, everyone who who saw andre on in the territory was blown away. Back then, and the early days of the Hogan era, Larger than life actually meant something. You werent watching tv stars or guys plastered all over the place, you were watching warriors you worshipped

Wrestling to me has always been about that. Hell its the reason im an undertaker fan. I live for those special moments. But alas, overexposure, cable TV, internet and growing up are the death of that

Re: Who else thinks WWE are fucked?

If it keeps going down the road it is, it'll be gone in 10 years. Steady decline, not very interesting product, no history factor. If you grew up in the 80's or 90's, you had a product that was legendary, and made you come back to remember moments when you were older...today's product will not have the same affect.

When these kids grow up in the next 10 years, there isn't anything that they're going to want to come back for. For example, theres no random midcarder that they'd just go crazy for if they made a random return. Remember when the Road Dogg returned at Royal Rumble? I went mad because that was my childhood walking down that ramp.....will kids have the same affect when sayyyyyyy Kofi Kingston makes a random appearence in 15 years? Nope. Not nearly as memorable. No big memories. None of that "hey remember when Kofi did this...", yes there will be CM Punk and Cena for them to get excited about again...but every generation had their susperstars...it's the midcarders that made the moments that made me love this business and why I came back a couple years ago. Which sort of rounds out my point. Its the memorable moments, the insane side stories and the little things that made wrestling so memorable to come back o and start watching again for me. It simple doesn't have that anymore. There used to be 50 side stories going on besides the world title..now there's filler in between us waiting to find out who fights Cena next.

That's not memorable.

And that's what the company is lacking. These kids they're catering to right now, wont have enough to want to come back when they're older and wrestling isn't cool for them to watch anymore. That's where they're going to really start to hurt. When the grown up kids don't care anymore and don't point their kids in the wrestling direction. There wont be anyone to care.

Some say he only knows two facts about ducks, and both of them are wrong. And that he has a plasticine model of James May in his garden shed for inspiration. All we know is, he's called The Stig.

Re: Who else thinks WWE are fucked?

WWE and TNA should (for their own survival) have a decent working relationship similar to what happens in japan.

RAW reached a 15 years all time low, IMPACT is a spike tv show since October 2005.

The reason why we don't get fresh ideas and promotions rising in American Pro Wrestling is because the majority of the community is happy with the same old shit and will reject any chance of change. There is a risk in doing new things, 9 times out of 10, it leads to 50+ pages of bitching and moaning. While business gets turned into a dictatorship and more and more out of touch. Support the indies, support New Pro Wrestling.

Re: Who else thinks WWE are fucked?

A couple of general view points of mine:

1. WWE isn't wrestling. It's one wrestling company.
2. TNA aren't, 'in the drain'.

Re: Who else thinks WWE are fucked?

A lot of people here are too young to remember that WWE almost did go under before. They are making the exact same mistakes that they made in the mid-90s and that WcW made towards the end.

As for them doing ok because they have more than wrestling the films aren't doing well, the tv channel has been a complete mess and the fans compared to what was around even ten years ago is sad.

So yeah WWE is definitely not in good standing right now.

Re: Who else thinks WWE are fucked?

big difference between the 90s and now

stability

in the 90s vince was keeping the company alive paycheck to paycheck and basically haemorrhaging money

now, the WWE has shareholders, almost infinite sources of revenue, and absolute stability, as well as good profits year to year

simply put, unless a HUGE disaster happens, and im talking really really big, the WWE cant go under. Its far too structurally stable. Its a machine built to last

Re: Who else thinks WWE are fucked?

WWE may shrink and change its product as fans interest falls but it will never sink.

Alot of this is subjective to as things go in cycles. In 10 years the WWE might have dropped PG and have another Rock and Austin boom.

You just never know, its impossible to predict when your industry is based on peoples talent. There is no forecasting.

Re: Who else thinks WWE are fucked?

They make far too much money for them to be fucked anything soon. Until they actually start LOSING money, don't expect it to be fucked anytime soon. They maybe fucked as far as who's going to be the next top star, but they will live.
