Default Stone Cold Steve Austins top 5 greatest matches

I have just finished compiling a top 5 greatest moments thread for the rock now onto my second favorite superstar of all time - STONE COLD STEVE AUSTIN .

HONORABLE MENTIONS AUSTIN VS MANKIND ( AT ONE OF THE IN YOUR HOUSES ) . AUSTIN VS BENOIT (SMACKDOWN) AUSTIN VS TAKER (SMACKDOWN)

5. AUSTIN VS KURT ANGLE SUMMERSLAM 2001
If you haven't seen this match you are missing out big time . Austins 2001 run was one of the greatest runs by a professional wrestler of all time . A fantastic roller-coaster of character developments between face , heel and tweener . Anyways onto the match Angle kicked out of three stone cold stunners and refused to give in but austins desire to keep the WWF Title outmatched angles incredible resolve to win the title . And that was the story these two fantastic wrestlers portrayed throughout the match . Words can't describe how great this match was and the pace of the match was incredible .

4. THE ROCK VS AUSTIN WRESTLEMANIA 19 2003
The Rock had never beaten Austin at the big one and most importantly Austin didn't have to job to the rock but he did anyway . The Rock had to carry Austin to a great match but just like a true champion the old dawg Austin had one great match left in him . This match is down on this list more to do with wrestling reasons but you could just see that the two great rivals had to end on a high note not for themselves but for the fans . THANK YOU SO MUCH STEVE WILLIAMS (Stone Cold Steve Austin )

3. THE ROCK VS STONE COLD STEVE AUSTIN WRESTLEMANIA 17 2001
Now these last three were all iconic matches and all three delivered . Ok now let me remind you going into this match at wrestlemania 17 Rock and Austin were literally 1a and 1b you couldn't separate the two ... The Rock became the number 1 star in the company when Austin was out injured but when Austin came back it was as if the guy had never left it was without doubt the strongest wwe roster in terms of drawing power and these two were right at the very top . The Wwe done a great job of keeping these two apart all the way up until there wrestlemania encounter (Face vs Face ). The rest is history Rock and Austin battered each other at an unrelenting pace until Austin made a deal with the devil himself and turned heel . MOST SHOCKING MOMENT I CAN EVER REMEMBER THE WHOLE ASTRODOME WERE BOOING AUSTIN . But most importantly definitely the best match these two ever had amazing .

2. STONE COLD STEVE AUSTIN VS BRET HART WRESTLEMANIA 13 1997
Controversial pick because many people would place this at number 1 and boy was this a match . Storytelling at it's finest contrasting the quintessential bad boy that everybody loves against the excellence of execution in a match that really favored Bret Hart . These two stole the show and rightfully so the last moments where Austin passed out with a crimson mask will forever be etched in the minds of any wwe fan who saw the match . It was an iconic moment that stood for no matter how hard life hits you never give up a really special moment and a credit to both wrestlers for displaying such fire , desire and passion in there art .

1. Stone Cold Steve Austin vs Triple H three stages of hell no way out 2001
Oh my god ! WHAT A MATCH , Probably both mens finest work inside a wrestling ring an d if not at least right up there. Pure hatred and disgust from both guys were perfectly displayed in a match that went far and beyond expectations . One of the rare times where at the end of the match there was no losers , there was no heels or faces there was just nothing but respect ! I shall end it on that note

Feel free to chime in with any feedback on the order or for any matches I missed out

Stone Cold Steve Austin/Triple H at No Way Out in 2001 in their 3 Stages Of Hell match was unreal and unfortunately marked the end of their feud way too soon, it seemed to me that they blew it off when it had so long left to go after a year off for Stone Cold Steve Austin.

Stone Cold Steve Austin/Bret Hart at WrestleMania 13 in their Submission match was the defining match of the end of one era and the starting point to another, i've always said that to me The Attitude Era truly started the night after SummerSlam in 1997 but this match was the origins of the path towards it.

Stone Cold Steve Austin/The Rock at WrestleMania 17 in their No Holds Barred match is often seen as the defining match of The Attitude Era and without question the biggest, having one man with that star power is great but to have two men at the exact same time in their prime was special and we were so spoiled we complain all the time now.

Stone Cold Steve Austin/The Undertaker at Fully Loaded in 1999 in their First Blood match was more or less the end of Austin/McMahon and was the best match of the year in my opinion and was finally the match where these two clicked. Some people could say it was overbooked with the involvement of The Rock, Triple H and Vince McMahon but to me it was the true peak of The Attitude Era.

Stone Cold Steve Austin/Kurt Angle at SummerSlam in 2001 was pretty much the feud that made Kurt Angle as beforehand he had been a goofy, comedic heel character who always seemed to get by by cheating but Stone Cold Steve Austin managed to make him look badass. For me the only people to have had better years than Stone Cold Steve Austin had in 2001 as far as in ring work and match quality goes is Ric Flair in 1989, Shawn Michaels in 1996 and Kurt Angle in 2003 which says a hell of a lot especially when you consider he had only been back a while from neck surgery.

Its funny, its been so long since I watched an Austin match...And you really do forget just how good he was in the ring...Without doubt, one of the best performers I've ever seen.

5.Austin v Dude Love, Over The Edge 1998
4.Austin v Rock, Wrestlemania 19
3.Austin v Benoit, Edmonton Smackdown 2001
2.Austin v Hart, Wrestlemania 13
1.Austin v Angle, Summerslam 2001

Austin v Angle is just incredible, full of hate and both men pull out brilliant character performances. Even for a guy who normally can't stand Kurt Angle this match is incredible and definitely evidence that for all his faults Angle had the talent to be a brilliant worker.

Austin v Rock Wrestlemania 17 is without doubt his best individual performance, but as an actual match I prefer the Wrestlemania 19 match. On last watch the brawling wasn't nearly as good as I remember it, and Rock was reduced to basically a passenger in the match to accelerate towards Austin's character breakdown. Also finding out just how fucked Austin was health wise going into Wrestlemania 19 just makes me pay more attention to every bump and sequence in the 19 match these days.

Austin/HHH v Jericho/Benoit is very very good, though I don't consider it the best tag in company history and think its below the 5 matches I've got and a couple of others.

Austin/Dude Love is just brilliantly overbooked pro wrestling, feels more Mid South and Memphis esque in the overbooking than say TNA. Wonderful match and a brilliant aspect of the ongoing Austin/McMahon storyline.

Austin/HHH NWO 2001 is a bad match, first two falls are terrible in regards to structure and direction with the first fall in particular being bad. I mean they wrestle a clean match in the biggest grudge match in years.....the hell? Add in HHH's offence being scattered and Austin strangely blowing off any form of workover to work spots and I wasn't digging it. 3rd fall suffers from a lack of heat but the finish is brilliant booking in building to Austin/Rock whilst keeping HHH looking strong for the eventual Taker match.

Canadian Stampede tag, WARGAMES 1992, Austin/HBK v Owen/Bulldog 1997, Austin/Pillman v Bagwell/Scorpio 1993, Austin/Zbyszko v Rhodes/Windham Superbrawl 1992, Steamboat/Douglas v Austin/Pillman Starrcade 1992 are all excellent as well.

SummerSlam over Mania 13? Never thought I'd see that.

Completely agree with this tho, although I might've not held back so much.
