Not only has WWE already ruined the concept of a cage match with their chain link and the addition of a referee which allows pin-falls and submissions, but they are seriously beating a dead horse with these super lame gimmicked PPV's. The only gimmick they need to showcase is a tournament, whether that spells the return of the King of the Ring or a completely new version, tournaments are money!
I'll get excited for a cage match when I see the old school blue (or black) steel and hear the only way to win is to escape it.
But there is a way out...see there's the door...and the wrestlers can climb over...actually, that's kind of the point of cage matches.
I digress, however. If this is true, I'm not sure I agree with this. I mean, isn't it kind of overkill to have a Steel Cage PPV and a Hell in a Cell PPV just a few months apart from eachother? Unless, of course, they've cancelled Hell in a Cell this year, in which case this would make a bit more sense. I thought WWE had kind of gotten over the gimmick PPV thing. There was still a few on the card, but not like there was a few years ago.
If this is true, it's awful. All gimmick pay per views dont work. They get boring. Same old, same old. Give me a proper storyline and the fans will come crawling back.
Is every match going to be a steel cage match? Because that would be overkill. Steel cage matches work because it's a special match and it has some importance. Having a full card of them would be pointless.
when i first heard the nwo was coming back i thought the gimmick match would be the cage match. but as SharpshooterSmith as there is a way out. maybe they could do the wargames style closed cage match.
Regular cage matches suck. It's so annoying every time I see guys struggling so hard to get over the top, only for somebody to walk through the door at the end.
Hell in a Cell and Elimination Chamber should be the only cage matches on PPV.
Would only be cool if the door was electrified and the top had razor wire, with rabid dogs serving as lumberjacks outside the cage. Seriously these gimmick PPV's only show that creative is not that creative.
People asking for sources, I assume he's got it from here:
The main events of the June No Way Out PPV in New Jersey will be Steel Cage matches. A promotional video at tonight's Smackdown taping featured all shots of Steel Cage bouts.
I have to admit that I do enjoy the Lockdown PPV & the concept but because WWE have every PPV as a gimmick I think this is just over-kill especially with already having a Hell In the Cell PPV.
To me it just de-values the gimmick of the matches, these types of match are meant to be special & the end to a feud not a PPV concept.
This can't be serious... A gimmick PPV consisting of matches where you win by leaving the ring and basically 'forfeit' the match. The refs will even open the door for you to help speed up the process.
No Way Out was a perfect name for the EC PPV, never saw why they had to change it - or it could easily transfer over as the name for the HIAC PPV (although I'd rather that event would just GTFO). I don't get this logic that you need to treat the fans like idiots and advertise the PPVs as the gimmick name.
Maybe they'll change the rules and you won't win by walking out. The could also have barbed wire on top of the cage like No Way Out 2005
