Re: Will the crowd ever acknowledge Chris Benoit?
Chris Benoit is one of the best wrestlers of all time, and fans remember that. What happened at the end of his and his family's life was an unfortunate tragedy for all three of them, not just Nancy and Daniel, and makes you wonder where things would be had doctors been able to catch the condition of his brain.
The fans never "chanted his name" in the first place, so I can't see why they suddenly would. But acknowledging him? Most certainly. They went bonkers every time HBK and Triple H used the Crossface, and Daniel Bryan's LeBell Lock brings back similar memories for them.
There may be a bunch of closed-minded people who refuse to believe that Benoit could ever be cheered for anything, but those are the same people that haven't done the research; or if they have, refuse to believe it. There are far more people who look back with respect and wish he was still around. And that majority? Yes, they have acknowledged and will continue to acknowledge Benoit.
It's like any other massive tragedy in wrestling -- Eddie Guerrero; Owen Hart. People still look back at them and remember. Benoit lost control of himself after so much brain damage and ended his and his family's lives. If that's not a tragedy, then I don't know what is.
My hope, as it has been since the details were revealed, is that this is able to transition to a point where Benoit can be put in the Hall of Fame and get the recognition he deserves.
