MITB is really gonna be worse off without Shelton man, he's been amazing in every MITB match he's been in, and his spots have always been great.

I look at some of the WWE roster and how average they are, and then I look at old Shelton Benjamin matches. Ok so he had trouble getting over, but he got a lot of cheers for his actual wrestling and athletic ability, he was genuinely exciting to watch. His workrate was amazing, he put 100% into every match and some of the shit he did was insane. Chris Masters is not exciting to watch, yet he hasn't been released? It just doesn't make sense.

What were the actual reasons for his release? Were there rumours of him being re-signed?

Couldn't get over? He was over big time until late 2005. It's a shame that in recent years "his only purpose was to be the spot guy that never has a chance of winning MITB". Talk about mis-using your talent.

Kofi and Bourne can't lace Shelton's boots. Go watch some Raw episodes from 2004-2005, and then get at me when Bourne and Kofi are at the level Shelton was at back then.

Benjamin was fucking useless. He had great athletic ability, but he didn't have anything else to bring to the table and thought his athletic ability would carry him to success. He had no heart or desire to better himself in the areas he lacked, just incredibly lazy like Carlito.

He no idea what it was to be a pro wrestler such as psychology, story telling, how to work a crowd, etc. He wasted his own potential, not WWE.

And Shelton could NEVER lace Cena's boots. Not even debatable.

But the video proof says different. Shelton outshined Cena. Shelton in the middle of a HUGE burial, outshined Cena in the middle of the biggest superman push ever. Shelton carried the match, the match told a story, the psychology was top notch, and the majority of the fans wanted Shelton to win.....and that was just a 7 minute TV match.

"No heart, lazy", blah blah blah.....glad you're in the locker room to know these things.

The only thing I see in that video is the unprofessionalism of Shelton by trying to go stiff on Cena and sandbag his moves. I also see his inability to do anything more than some jumping flippy shit. The only reason he's getting any sort of reaction is because it was super cool to hate Cena in late 2005.

Just because people happen to be fans of John Cena and Batista doesn't mean they're "WWE ass kisserz LOL". Maybe we just enjoy wrestlers who can draw you into a match with a story more than seeing meaningless spot after spot from the "real athletes". And Charlie was the better athlete of the two anyway.

Hilarious.

lol I don't have to "bring" anything. Cena is the top star in all of wrestling. Shelton is unemployed. That's all that needs to be said.
Vladimir Kozloz is employed too.So is Chris Masters.

I guess they're better than Shelton too.

Jericho wasn't that over in 2005 to begin with. Not to mention, ANYBODY could draw a big pop when you're wrestling two of the biggest heels going.
Why didn't Jericho draw a big pop then?

Shelton gets a big pop but still can't get credit for it.No surprise.
That's how people like you are.

Yeah, Shelton was the one guy I always looked forward to seeing in the MITB matches. He was always solid. It's not going to be the same. I just hope the matches are at least good.

Not as great as the match he did with Shelton obviously, since it's one of, if not the best match on Raw ever! Good try though.

Put Shelton in the ring with ANYONE back in 04-05 and he was over. Cena, Hassan, Jericho, Christian, HHH, Orton, friggen MAVEN......Shelton WAS over. You can still dislike him and admit that. The lengths you're going to cop pleas here is simply amazing.

I found out he actually went back to finish his degree. So who knows? Maybe he'll be back in the future. I had to laugh at the MITB advert though, half of the clips on it are Shelton Benjamin's spots, so it's kinda like "Oh hey, you can see all this amazing stuff from a guy who's not even employed!"... they made a mistake releasing him. Swagger/Benjamin over the world title could have been amazing. But they would have never built him up that well.

I disagree. Momma Benjamin was one of the best things to happen to Shelton. He became interesting - he became a personality. Unfortunately, Momma Benjamin had a "heart attack" and the storyline went to waste. I was more entertained by Shelton during that period of time than I ever was. Stand-alone, he's not that great character-wise. When he has an opposite personality alongside him as a foil, he's more bearable.

I think Shelton should have been used as a Ricky Steamboat type. A guy who was the quintessential, but not corny.

I don't think they should have turned him heel, because he was much better as a face. They also shouldn't have told him to dye his hair blonde. It didn't work for Butch Reed.

When he was finally starting to get over as a heel, they turned him face. Which, he made work, because he was getting good pops on ECW.

Hell, he even managed to have a good match with Vance Archer.

Hopefully, he'll turn up in TNA and do well there.

Shelton had the more talent in the ring than so many guys. His problems were on the mic and his character. He did not appeal to the fans. He never improved on his mic work. The guy had 6 years in the singles division and could not improve his character. Adios.

I don't agree with he didn't appeal to the fans. Shelton was one of the most over stars back in 2004 and they had a chance to build on the victory that he had over HHH but they didn't. He was a cockier version of Beniot. They let their wrestling do the talking for them and the guy had people on the edge of their seats in his matches every time. WWE fucked things up with him, It's definitely not his fault.

You say his mic skills never improved?? Go back and look at his last run. He defintely got a hell of alot better in that regards.

The guy is a legend of the MITB Ladder match despite never winning the damn thing,he was just so amazing in all of those matches. Also Shelton Vs RVD at Backlash 2006 is one of the most slept on matches ever imo. Though my all time favorite Shelton match will always be against the G.O.A.T HBK from the gold rush tourny on Monday Night Raw.He didn't have much personality but how talented you are in the ring is what makes me pay attention to you and Shelton was a great worker.

Ah yes, the sad case of Shelton Benjamin... it seems every time he gets over (with HHH, as IC Champ, with the Gold Standard gimmick) he was simply jobbed out or fell back down the card. He was never going to be a main eventer, but Shelton at the very least could have remained a solid midcard. His in-ring work was phenomenal and by his last run, his mic skills had improved dramatically. And lol at anyone who still calls him a spot monkey, the only spot he even did as a heel was that jump to the top turnbuckle, and that hardly counts.

I disagree. He definitely could've been a main-eventer easily and the perfect time to move him up gradually was after he defeated HHH.

I haven't read the whole thread, but I'm sure its been mentioned that Benjamin wasn't even out of the company for a full week before his finisher got handed down to MVP. And then MVP decided to do it with less twist and elevation and just all around athleticism.

Face MVP is just Shelton Benjamin but shittier in just about every regard.
