The Powers of Pain Came Back to WCW in 1996

I just found out today that the legendary tag team The Powers of Pain came back to WCW in 1996 as The Super Assassins. It is The Warlord and The Barbarian for sure with Colonel Parker as there manager. They were great in the NWA and the WWF when they used to battle the Demolition. There handicap match with Mister Fuji against Demolition at WM 5 was pretty good. They had two matches together in WCW in 1996 and there was no mention at all that they used to be The Powers of Pain. They fought Lex Lugar and Sting and they also fought The American Males in 1996. WCW should've done alot more with this team instead of putting masks on there faces and jobbing them out.

Re: The Powers of Pain Came Back to WCW in 1996

I wouldn't go so far as to say they were a great tag team. Warlord was especially limited in what he could do and neither was a great talker. I personally marked out for them BIG TIME when they first appeared in the WWF in 1998 as babyfaces. I had read about their time in the NWA in magazines and thought they looked awesome, much more like the Road Warriors than Demolition ever did and was rooting for them to beat Ax and Smash for the belts. But when they turned heel at the Survivor Series I basically quit being a fan. They more or less became jobbers after that. It made sense though, because Demolition were the better talkers and you can't have tag champs that can't speak for themselves; they'd never get over. Anyway, thanks for the trip down memory lane. It was .

"If you provide THE HIGHEST PRODUCTION LEVEL, the fans will find you AS LONG AS YOU ARE DISTRIBUTED WELL."

Re: The Powers of Pain Came Back to WCW in 1996

They were a good tag team in the WWF in the late 80's. They weren't as good as Demolition but they were pretty damn close. I wouldn't call them jobbers after WM 5. They moved on to solo gimmicks and later down the road The Barbarian turned out pretty good his second time in WCW in the Dungeon of Doom. I just wish WCW would've brought them back as The Powers of Pain in 1996. That would've been really neat.

They came back to WCW in 1996 as The Super Assassins which was way awkward. The WCW Powers of Pain should've joined Kevin Sullivan in The Dungeon Of Doom in 1996.

I always was a big fan of the Barbarian. I can't even place my finger on what it was. I just always enjoyed his singles work.

Re: The Powers of Pain Came Back to WCW in 1996

I saw very little of that match but they really impressed me. They should have kept them around longer and had them work in the tag team division and possibly even won the tag titles or contended for it and worked more matches for as long as they could keep them together. The Warlord was a big bad dude but Hogan made him look terrible in that Royal Rumble the way he got tossed out so fast. The Barbarian was alright and had a good role in WCW for awhile feuding with Meng/Haku but he only went so far.

Fuck, I didn't know they had a WCW stint as a tag team.
