Big Gold Belt?

I did some reasearch on the Big Gold Belt which is called the WWE Heavyweight Belt today and I got stumped. Ric Flair was with WCW and was the WCW HW Champion (Hopefully you guys know the WWE HW Belt was the WCW HW Belt before). Flair left WCW in '91 and took the belt with him since WCW refused to give back the deposit that he paid for the belt. He took it with him while he went to the WWF. However, in 1998 with the nWo trailing around WCW it appeared as though WCW still had the big gold belt, though Ric never got his deposit back nor did he give back the belt. I just wanna know if WCW got a new belt or what.

Re: Big Gold Belt?

Flair did give the belt back. That's why when you watch some videos of Flair in the WWF you'll see that they start to blur out the world title because it was really the tag team title Flair was using at that point.

From Wikipedia:

Quote:
Flair soon signed with the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) and wore the Big Gold Belt there. Flair stated on the 2008 released Nature Boy Ric Flair: The Definitive Collection DVD that the $25,000 he initially deposited with additional interest totalling $38,000 was never paid back to him, and as a result, Flair kept the Big Gold Belt. He also stated that he later gave the belt to Triple H as a gift. WCW ultimately introduced a new Big Gold Belt to be used to represent the NWA World Heavyweight Championship due to an agreement between the NWA and WCW.
But to answer your question, OP, according to wiki NWA and WCW brought in a new Big Gold Belt.

Re: Big Gold Belt?

That's surprising. Then why did Vince have Flair go out with one of the tag team titles rather than the real thing?

Re: Big Gold Belt?

He did in the first few months with the WWF. That was until he gave the belt to Hunter.

Flair didn't get his deposit back, thus he kept the title while WCW got a new one.

Re: Big Gold Belt?

Flair says a lot of stuff though, on the one hand he claims he gave it to Triple H as a present and on the otherhand he claims Hogan hs got the original belt

Re: Big Gold Belt?

Trips said at Mania 25 Axxess that the best piece of memorabilia he owns is the WHC belt that Flair gave to him and that he hangs it up in his office if that helps anybody out.
