Apparantly the WWE is now banning Chairshots to the head. Anyone who does it on purpose might get serious penalties.

That´s a result of the latest scientific reports on brain-damages in Pro-Wrestling.

Ugh .. I highly doubt this is because of the wrestlers safety. You can take a chairshot to the head and make it look half way believable without it even touching your head if you get your hands up and have the right camera angle. I'd be willing to bet it has more to do with the impression on kids, and Linda McMahon's senate campaign. I have seen alot of news outlets showing things like her getting tombstoned by Kane, so it would be a wise political move to tone down the violence in general.

This is why after watching WWF/E since 1985, I switched to TNA. Don't get me wrong, I'm not asking for gratuitous violence, but the steel chair shots are synonymous with professional wrestling.

Edit:

If that is the case, then good move. That sounds like a decent decision.

Good to hear this. Though I suppose it has been there for quite some time, it is still good to hear it. I think that the smaller wrestling companies need to do this more than WWE. They actually have their wrestlers jump off houses. That is why most wrestlers who have wrestled in smaller promotions like the original ECW, are prone to brain damage; a la Chris Benoit.

ok iv read most of the first page of this thread and to lazy to read the other 3 pages and i am shocked that all you guys are liking this ban. i mean come on this is just babying it up even more now first it stopage of a match due to blood even a lil cut like batista had on RAW (3-15-10) the ref was ready to say time out hold on i got to stop the match DUE TO A LIL CUT, now its chair shots to the head well basicaly thats saying dont use a chair at all now that kills like all gimick matches, like TLC, with this ban TLC should be changed now cause the chair match is goin to be more of a wrestling match then what its titled for. you know this what TNA is so much better then WWE cause WWE is watering down there product to show moral and let linda win a politcal vote so shes hiding wat she used to be cause the politcal world finds it taboo so shes making vince change the product to baby down and have a more disney look to it, this is BULLSHIT WWE SUCKS

if this hole thing is being blamed cause of beniot, look at the original ECW members Taz, Sabu, Sandman, Dreamer, RVD, Dudlys, etc, etc, just because of one death beacuse of damage to the brain (and it wasnt from chair shots, it was due mostly to his diving headbut) shouldnt put a damper on it i mean look at these guys today Taz though he had a injury that killed his wrestling (CAUSE HE BROKE HIS NECK DURING A WRESTLING MOVE) and more damage to that neck years after (KURTS LUCKY HES STILL WRESTLING AFTER HIS) hes still around nothing wrong with him, Sabu (PROB TOOK THE MOST CHAIR SHOTS) hes fine hes still a maniac in the ring, Mick Foley (NOTHING WRONG WITH HIM AT ALL) these men just show that WWE is wrong

I'm glad they've banned them. There's a few too many corpses laying around for my tastes. Even that aside, wrestling was so ridiculously over-exposed in the late 90s and the early part of this decade that you've gotta drop someone out of a helicopter into a pit of glass to get people to pop anymore. Pulling back the violence and keeping it under tabs for a while to retrain the crowd how to react is just smart management.... and better for their talent. There's absolutely no need for chair shots directly to the head anymore. None.

I would be fine with letting veterans do it, those who know how to protect their own skull.

However, this is past due for wrestlers in general.

Really? Really?

I can see why they are doing it but for god sakes, It would not be a problem if you have people who know how to fucking sell it.

Let's ban chairshots but use garbage can lids instead. Wrestling has been doing to for over 10 years and everyone that I remember selling a good chairshot is perfectly fine. If you can't sell a chairshot then you do not need to be a wrestler.

It's worse that they are now giving everyone bandaids and boo boo treatments if they get bloodied.

Obviously, you are not looking at this in the long run. Its not about what happens on the spot, but what taking many shots can do to your brain.
Good selling would mean not getting hit by the chair, and making it look like you are, you seemed to have also missed that point.

If you like watching people become crippled, go watch CZW.

How can anyone say anything bad about this? It's for the wrestlers safety, concussion are serious business and can lead to bad things.

Anyone who doesn't agree with them banning un-protected chairshots is an idiot as far as I'm concerned. Taking an un-protected chairshot is an unnecessarry risk and I'm glad that the wrestlers aren't going to have to do it anymore.

I thought they already banned unprotected chair shots to the head already? Could be wrong, maybe they just discouraged it. But yeah, I have no idea why people are mad about this. (I assume) it's only unprotected shots, so they can still block it so it doesn't hit cleanly on their skull. Personally, I don't need to see unprotected chair shots to get my jollies.
