Re: Official Match/Show/DVD Discussion Thread - SNOWFLAKES~
Those are some generous assumptions, AF, although I am pretty excited about the card as well.
Morrison/Bourne is a high ***1/4 from me, really good stuff. It threatened to really be great but didn't quite get there. Well worth a watch.
The fatal four way on SD the other week was rather good, and WGTT/Morrison/Punk from this week was a real good tag match with a hot finish. Haven't seen much TV otherwise myself. Cena/Jericho putting on another good match holds no interest to me; these guys have a million matches that are around the *** mark but nothing truly outstanding.

Benoit|Hunter was a fantastic Iron-man match as well. I would hold it on par with their No Mercy 00 encounter. Bar the horrible ending, the match had me hooked for the entire duration.
^ Razor King, just to know your tastes on wrestling, list of top ten matches perhaps ?
Yeah, many people found that derogatory for the match, but I don't know I found everything to fit. It did run like 7 or 8 seconds longer than an hour, but the whole 'Taker thing made absolute sense because there was no way they would have Rocky who was the biggest babyface in WWE at that time lose cleanly to Hunter, and along with that, they wanted Undertaker to make a huge impact right away.
Anyway, I have to watch this Benoit/Hunter Iron Man match again. It's be a long time, and I've heard pretty good things about the match, even though it's not talked about as much. I'll watch it again and see what I feel now about the match.
My top-10 matches?
Well, it keeps on changing, and it's also so damn difficult to come up with a top-10 for me. Anyway, right now, it's something like:
Not in any order because I can't place matches in order:
- Owen Hart vs. Bret Hart - WrestleMania X
- Triple H vs. Cactus Jack - Royal Rumble 2000
- Ricky Steamboat vs. Randy Savage - WrestleMania III
- Ric Flair vs. Ricky Steamboat - WrestleWar and ChiTown 1989
- Davey Boy Smith vs. Bret Hart - SummerSlam 1992
- Triple H vs. Steve Austin - No Way Out 2001
- Bret Hart vs. Ricky Steamboat - Boston Garden 1986
- Bret Hart vs. Steve Austin - Survivor Series 1996 and WrestleMania 13
- Ric Flair vs. Terry Funk - COC IX 1989
- 60 Minute Draw: Mr. Perfect vs. Nick Bowkwinkle from Mr. Perfect's DVD Set
- Triple H vs. The Rock - Judgment Day 2000
- Shawn Michaels vs. Triple H - SummerSlam 2002 and Raw 12/29/2003
- Razor Ramon vs. Shawn Michaels - WrestleMania X
- Chris Jericho vs. Chris Benoit - Royal Rumble 2001
- Power Trip vs. Jericho/Benoit - Raw 05/21/2001
- Angle/Benoit vs. Edge/Mysterio - No Mercy 2002
- Shawn Michaels vs. Bret Hart - WrestleMania XII
- Shawn Michaels vs. Mankind - IYH: Mind Games 1996
- Chris Benoit vs. Triple H vs. Shawn Michaels - WrestleMania XX
- Brock Lesnar vs. Kurt Angle - SmackDown 09/18/2003
- Bret Hart vs. Mr. Perfect - King of the Ring 1993
- Bret Hart vs. Ric Flair - Saskatoon House Show in 1992 (Bret's first WWF Title win)
- Triple H vs. Chris Benoit - No Mercy 2000
- Steve Austin vs. Chris Benoit - SmackDown 05/29/01
Okay, STOP. Phew. I just can't make a top-10 without having the feeling that I'm leaving other great matches out. Damn....
Even now, I'm feeling like I've left off some matches....
By the way, I have that Angle/Lesnar Iron Man match at **** 3/4. Tremendous, tremendous match for sure.
Re: Official Match/Show/DVD Discussion Thread - SNOWFLAKES~
This Razor King guy OWNS.
I watched a few matches today:
Jericho/Jeff SD! - Jericho pretty much kept Jeff in line here, so that nothing was overkill or a sequence of random spots. It was structured so that when a big spot did happen, it MEANT something. This pretty much re-establishes my viewpoint that Jeff works really well given the right sort of opponent, but does rely on the quality of his opponent dictate the level of the match moreso than most other "good" workers. It's not a bad thing, but he's hit or miss when he's not with a guy like Jericho. Anyway, this was a step below their best work together, but not by a huge amount. There were a few very well done transitions and only one major botch.
A lot of Jeff's matches do seem exactly the same though, which is becoming a problem. So don't go in expecting anything too new or innovative; quite simply two guys hitting each other with their biggest stuff with a lot on the line. The match did feel important, they worked the Edge/Rey elements in nicely and as you'd expect - it was an exciting match that never really got dull. It's not must watch, but it's fun and a worthy TV main event.
Kofi/Edge Superstars - Kofi was made to look like a star and his offence was all great to watch. He even employed some strategy early on. This had a good flow, the usual Edge TV match structure (which I think works well) and some exciting moments. It wasn't great or anything out of the usual, but still your decent back and forth fare.
Shelton/Rey Superstars - Speaking of a nice flow, this match had just that. Only even moreso than the last match. This had points that reminded me of Eddie/Rey, and if you don't already know, that's a fucking good thing. Just the way they seamlessly worked through transitions, reversals, counter reversals and heel/face mechanisms. Shelton put on one of his better performances this year (with great beatdowns and strategy), the action was frantic and Rey got a lot of stuff in that only comes off looking that good on when he faces such an accomplished wrestler.
In that regard, Shelton did a damn good job of making every big spot come off great and made Rey look like the absolute star he is. The chemistry was evident as a lot of it just simply "clicked". I liked how they layed the match out, but perhaps more substance and time would have been nice. The only holdback was that it was quite a lot of rehashed stuff that we've seen before, without pushing too many boundaries or shaking things up enough to make it "great". But this was still good.

Re: Official Match/Show/DVD Discussion Thread - SNOWFLAKES~
I really should watch Shelton/Rey, being a huge fan of both men's work I don't doubt I will enjoy it thoroughly. Shelton for 3 *** matches in a week? Pretty fantastic for a midcarder if it does indeed happen.
And yeah Razor King seems like a good poster, good riddance it has been a while since we have had a good, new poster.
I also agree with the Jeff sentiment in that he relies on his opponent to "make the match". Jeff does the same thing whether he takes on Khali or HHH and it is up to his opponent to make everything meaningful and structure the match. HHH did a great job of this last year, and guys like HBK, Jericho, Cena, Shelton and others over the last few years have managed to extract some great matches out of the man.
Re: Official Match/Show/DVD Discussion Thread - SNOWFLAKES~
I like this V1 Dante guy too. Good to see some new guys who add some discussion further than one liners or irrelevant bullshit.
Anyway, Shelton has done very well on TV over the last year so it'll be good to see him on PPV finally. He's really nailing his formula without it getting too repetitive. The way he transitions so flawlessly between high impact moves and submissions does remind me of the late great Eddie Guerrero. I want him to get more time to flesh out his character and work the mic this year. Some decent feuds, such as this one against Morrison, present the ideal situation to work on such areas.
JD looks like absolute quality. If Jericho/Rey + Edge/Jeff truly deliver, as long as the rest is at least solid - I'll be fully satisfied. This does have potential to be better than BL, I just hope it's not so stacked that a few matches fall flat on their potential or suffer from time constraints. The build being a bit weak going in could be a holdback, but hopefully nothing too major.
I watched Hogan/Taker where the Deadman first won the title at SS 1991 again. I don't know why, but I enjoy this match even though it doesn't shout out "quality". It was solid enough, only around the ** mark but I like it.
Taker/Diesel (WM) is a decent powerhouse brawl as well. Better than Hogan/Taker and I enjoyed it more this time round. Taker showed flashes of the worker he would later become and Diesel played his role to perfection.

For me it's the best DVD WWE have put out apart from The Flair Ultimate Collection and Bret's DVD, and maybe the Rise/Fall of ECW. Just maybe. The doc let's you find out about his style, persona, personal life, etc. I won't spoil things for you (If you don't know about his early life injuries and such), but it's very interesting nontheless. Good to hear from Austin especially.
The matches couldn't be better either, it has the '91 War Games (everyone might know I don't really like this one, but I seem to be the only guy), Vs Liger at SuperBrawl (****3/4- Amazing, amazing back and forth high flying/mat based exchanges), The Canadian Stampede Main Event (****3/4, Probably the best eight man tag there'll ever be), and many more. If
If I had a choice to rewatch one entire set, it'd probably be this one. (I don't have the choice to rewatch a set because I'm swamped with sets I haven't watched ).
Goku I'm not too sure what you're trying to say, but thanks for the chuckle.

Sounds brilliant. Looking forward to watching it, still got a few DVDs to watch first though.

I'm a huge fan of that match, one of my favourite big man vs big man matches ever probably. ***1/2 when I reviewed it, I do believe.
Hogan/Taker was decent, I mainly like it because ti was 'Taker's first title win lol. I prefer their JD 2002 match tbh, though not by much. Both are around the **-**1/2 for me, not horrible, but not great either.
Speaking of Hardy, I really liked his SD match with Jericho a couple of weeks ago. I loved how they made it feel like an important match (Jericho possibly getting a title shot, having Rey and Edge there), and I loved how Jericho made sure Jeff didn't go insane with random spots etc. The one where he ran up and jumped over the steel steps and into the guard rail came across as more awesome that it probably would have if Hardy had spend most of the match diving around and shit.
A third generation of Hart wrestlers—the adolescent Dallas, Matt, T.J. and Harry, along with five-year-old Blade—pulled the mattresses in my hotel room onto the floor to turn them into wrestling mats. The sight of them with their shirts off getting all sweaty meant the world to me.
