Re: Official Match/Show/DVD Discussion Thread - SNOWFLAKES~
Calling Jericho's promos repetitive because he uses a few key words in every promo is like calling a wrestler's matches repetitive because they use the same few signature moves every match. He uses those few words as a basis to go off on other tangents depending on his current feud or situation. Like straightedge said, if you're calling his promos repetitive because he repeats a couple of terms then you're calling 90% of wrestlers in history repetitive mic workers. Hell, you'd be calling some of the greatest ever like Austin or Flair repetitive. He had a range of different promos on Rey (619, mask etc.), used a different style of promo during the legends feud, then has his GM complaining promos, HBK hypocrite promos, promos against other heels, "my show" promos where he just elevates himself. His promos all have similarities, but they all have differences as well and incorporate fresh material that suits the circumstance he finds himself in. This is turning into ignorance now.

I don't see why people are stating Jericho's promos are repetitive. They're one of the best things going for Jericho right now, along side him being awesome inside the squared circle. Sure, they have their similarities with him using some of the same key words in each promo. But the context is always different; the message is always different. He doesn't go on a whole tirade about the same issue every week. He uses a variety week after week. Tonight's promo was about Jericho regaining the Intercontinental Championship next week and acknowledging the unstoppable force of Edge and himself as the Unified Tag Team Champions. Different to his promos about Rey and the 619, Rey's mask, the General Managers overlooking him and so on.
Just because he uses similar words doesn't make the promo repetitive.
Re: Official Match/Show/DVD Discussion Thread - SNOWFLAKES~
It's more to do with him using the same words in almost the same order talking about the same topic in the same tone over and over again. The promos he's been cutting in the Rey fued are identical to those he was cutting in the Cena fued last year.
I like Jericho, but yeah he's definitely getting stale.
Re: Official Match/Show/DVD Discussion Thread - SNOWFLAKES~
My two cents, while my eyes aren't hurting as much as usual...
I think WWE took a BIG risk in turning Jericho heel and changing him the way they did. Most characters retain traits that are recognisable to the fans, which ultimately makes a heel-to-face or face-to-heel transition a little easier. With Jericho, they literally changed EVERYTHING about him. His look, his expressions, his promos, his entrance to the ring...just everything. It's hard because they risked making fans unable to get behind him again because we don't see a single shred of the old Y2J everybody loved. Turning him face again will be a slow process because how do you take his current character and make him likable? Very difficult.
And yet, for the last year he has remained briliant in his promos and matches. I don't think he is repetitive at all; all his promos are about something different but because of who he has become he can't resist lecturing the audience and telling them how he feels about them. I laugh my head off every time he talks about gelatinous parasitic tapeworms and whatnot, it's freakin' hilarious.
The match with Rey at The Bash was absolutely tremendous, the best of their series so far. He's my favourite character of 2008 and 2009 so far.

I don't think it would be hard to turn him face, the dude gets massive face heat even as a heel. He was getting cheers in his matches against Cena and Rey.
No, there is s a difference between a having a catchphrase and cutting repetitive promos.
Oh so Hypocrites are repetitive but THE MILLIONS AND MILLIONS OF THE ROCKS FANS thats a catch phrase no to mention the other seven.

Yes actually, The Rock used catchphrases but didn't repeat the same promo talking about the same topic in the same tone week in week out. Come on now, that's reaching.
