Re: Official Match/Show/DVD Discussion Thread - SNOWFLAKES~
One of the great things about the triple threat was the dual storylines leading in. The climax of the HHH/HBK feud, coupled with Benoit's quest for the title (which ultimately proved superior) interchanged very well. Shawn and Chris both wanted the title off Hunter, and Hunter and Shawn, the actual rivalry, both cast Benoit aside and thought he had no chance. That storyline in particular was done superbly with Hunter and HBK eventually realizing Benoit was a serious threat (after he dominated periods of the match and often went for the Crossface), putting their differences aside and double teaming Benoit through the announce table before going at it themselves, the whole 'it's just you and me' scenario.
I loved it.

What is the card tommorow night?
Just about every triple threat match has that "one on one while the other guy rests" factor in it and that is pretty much the only thing the WM XX main event has going against it.

Quite frankly I'm getting a little tired of picking every little thing in a match, if something doesn't make sense, fine, but I'm rating matches on how much it entertains me pretty much. Which is what wrestling is for. [Not saying I'm basing my rating purely on my own enjoyment, but you get the picture]. I'll still look for those little things that make a match better or worse though. Just not that little.
For instance, I was entertained by the Iron Man match, it had the ring stuff I like, it went to the outside a bit, it had some high-flying shit-plus I enjoyed it- so I gave it full shuriken.

I watched Rey get DESTROYED by Ultimo Dragon this morning, makes me wish he was wrestling Umaga instead of Punk but that looks like a pretty solid show on paper.

I've seen Ultimo and Rey Jr wrestle six matches together, was that Nitro, Worldwide, WAR or what? Because I remember one match where Ultimo pretty much doesn't let Rey touch him. It was quite funny
Re: Official Match/Show/DVD Discussion Thread - SNOWFLAKES~
WAR. It is on a Best of Ultimo Dragon DVD I have which actually has been a fairly dissipointing set. Rey did get some offence in but Ultimo hit him with one running powerbomb that made Rey bounce up like an MC Hammer check.

Nah, I got it off IVP but the first two matches (Vs Great Sasuke and a young Jericho in Mexico match) were pretty lack luster. And although they had Ultimo/Ohtani from J Cup '95 the AMAZING match those two had during the J-Crown tourney is no where to be found. Almost criminal.

Chris Benoit vs. Shawn Michaels vs. Triple H - Backlash 2004
So, with all the discussion going on about the main event of WrestleMania XX, I decided to go off the limb and watch a match that I hadn't watched since 2004. I watched it quite a few times in 2004, but didn't touch it afterwards.
The match started amazingly and the pace was consistent up until the Montreal screw-job tease. The action was top-notch, and they really worked a match in a mold of testing Benoit's heart as a champion (kayfabe wise). The sequences were brilliant and the match had great psychology too. Like Benoit banging Michaels' back on the barricade and Triple H hitting Michaels with the sledgehammer right on the back. The Montreal tease was awesome, and Hebner really took it a notch up. The crowd gasped during that period. By the way, the crowd was awesome throughout the match. The action was best when all three were going at it. The drama was immaculate, and the near-falls were impressive as well as convincing. If I hadn't known the outcome before, I would have thought that it was over, especially when Triple H pinned Benoit after the Pedigree. That being said, it did feel a bit lull at times though, and contrast to WrestleMania XX, the match wasn't a non-stop affair. There were some slow moments, and in Triple Threat matches - these slow moments really hurt the flow. Apart from these, the match was brilliant from start to finish and it put over all three men over, mostly Benoit. The ending sequence was stellar.
Overall, not as legendary as WrestleMania XX, but still amazing and the second greatest Triple Threat Match in WWE history.
