Re: Official WWE DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread III (Star Ratings~!)
Finally it's back
Can you please put out "Star ratings" of the title and add "Cabanaramma ratings"?
I just watched HBK/Undertaker HIAC from Badd Blood '97 and I have it at **** 3/4 - ***** now. I had it at ***** first

Just watched Kennedy/Michaels I recorded from the Raw before the Rumble '08. Good match it was, I wasn't really interested in the fued so maybe that's why I didn't look at it before. *** 1/4

I have it as the 8th best PPV I have seen. I just wonder how it would have done if it had been given more matches, therefore more chance of a bad match or 2.

Re: Official WWE DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread III (Star Ratings~!)
I think the old ppvs were only given 2 hours time and Austin/Bret feud was insanely hot at that time. So they let the main event go longer (plus promos). The PPV also had one of the craziest crowd i have ever seen.

Re: Official WWE DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread III (Star Ratings~!)
Top 10 Summerslam Matches (cont.)
5:
Summerslam 1992
Bret Hart vs. British Bulldog
Families would collide in this match. Bulldog married Bret's sister, Diana making the two men brother-in-laws. Bulldog was looking to make a name for himself as a singles competitor much like Bret tried doing the same at the Summerslam the year before. Finally, you had Bulldog in his home country looking to capture the Intercontinental Championship. The last thing Bulldog wanted to do was let down his home country and his wife who was in the crowd.
There was a lot of great storytelling in the match. As I mentioned above, there was a bit of a role reversal from the previous Summerslam. At Summerslam 1991, Bret came in looking to establish himself as a singles competitor. Now, one year late, Bulldog is looking to do the same. Then, you had the whole story of the family being torn apart (specifically Diana) of who to pull for. One thing I really liked in the match was Bret refusing to be phased by the pro-Bulldog crowd and really showing an aggressive side to him. He was more ruthless than he had been before and was really looking to make the crowd a non factor.
One thing I didn't really care for was Bulldog's selling. Bret really put a solid beatdown on Bulldog's back and his selling was pretty spotty. I mean when he locked in the Sharpshooter late in the match Bulldog's selling of the move was pretty much nonexistant. As you might expect, the crowd was very hot which created a great atmosphere for the match. The finish to the match could've been better but was understandable because it was a flash pin and managed not to make Bret look incredibly weak after dominating Bulldog most of the match. Overall ****1/2
4:
Summerslam 2000
Edge & Christian vs. Dudley Boyz vs. Hardy Boyz (TLC)
This type of match had been brewing all year long. The year started with the Dudley Boyz and Hardy Boyz destroying each other with tables and ladders in Madison Square Garden at the Royal Rumble. Then, at Wrestlemania, Edge & Christian were thrown into the mix and these three teams stole the show with their triangle ladder match. All roads led to Summerslam where each team's specialty weapon was thrown into one match.
I'm unsure if words can describe the insanity of this match. Simply put, this match was everything fans expected and then some. The spots were awesome and the great thing about the spots is the continued to get bigger and more dangerous as the match progressed which I feel is a lost art today in TLC matches and even ladder matches for that matter. These teams did an absolutely tremendous job building the spots and the crowds reactions showed that because they became increasingly louder as each spot took place.
The selling in this match was damn good as well. Major props go out to Bubba, Jeff, and Matt for pretty much looking dead after they went through the tables. The spot I think I most liked was the spot where Jeff was going to hit Bubba with a swanton bomb off a ladder through a table but missed. I thought this was a great spot because if you remember back to the Rumble, Jeff hit an identical spot on Bubba so it was cool to see Bubba sort of flashback to that and get out of the way this time.
One thing I thought the match could've done without was the Lita interference. Didn't feel it was extremely necessary but at least it wasn't over the top like at WM 17. The spear Edge hit Lita with was pretty sick too (and to think he'd literally be spearing her 5 years later). The final spot with Jeff and D-Von hanging above the ring was awesome and Edge & Christian winning the match made it perfect. Overall ****3/4
