Default Austin was supposed to headline WM 18

I found this interesting...

Quote:
Former WWE creative team member Seth Mates posted a story in his Newsday.com blog about Steve Austin costing himself a spot in the WrestleMania 18 main event. "The main event of WrestleMania 18 in Toronto was supposed to be Triple H winning the title from Stone Cold Steve Austin," Mates writes.

"But coming off the Alliance storyline, Stone Cold insisted on being turned face again, effectively talking himself out of the main event of WrestleMania. It might have been a merchandise thing, I'm not sure."
I always felt that besides Hogan vs. The Rock and Flair vs. Undertaker that the rest of the WrestleMania card was kind of weak. It could have/should have been one of the best WrestleManias. With this news I think I'd have booked it

"Stone Cold" Steve Austin vs. Triple H (face vs. face for the world title)

The Rock vs. "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan

Ric Flair vs. Undertaker

The Outsiders vs. APA

Edge vs. Christian

Kurt Angle vs. Kane

The Hardyz vs. The Dudleys vs. Billy & Chuck vs.

RVD vs. Chris Jericho

It was a good decision to make him face no matter what because the crowd at that point loved him to much for him to be a heel.

Interesting read. Would have been cool to see Stone Cold with the big gold belt since they just had the WWF Championship and big gold belt as the Undisputed Championship and then after Triple H won it they changed it to the design that JBL was the last to hold.

Steve Austin is one of the best ever. No denying that. But that sounds pretty selfish of him.

How is that selfish ? He gave away his main event spot at Wrestlemania because he wanted to be a face so he handed it off to Chris Jericho, how's that selfish ?

Selfish? Steve Austin jobbed in his LAST EVER MATCH to The Rock at Wrestlemania 19. Why? Because he did what was best for the BUSINESS, not himself. He didn't even tell anyone it was his last ever match. The only people who knew were Vince and The Rock. He isn't selfish. The man is a class act.

EDIT: ~The Undertaker~ I think Rudy means he's "selfish" because of the merchandise sales? I'm not sure either, but that's what I understood.

Stone Cold is awesome. Simply put, hes a true man for the business, unlike HHH and others.

I thought it was supposed to be Rock vs Triple H headlining WM18 for the gold and Austin vs Hogan?
