I found this interesting...

Former WWE creative team member Seth Mates posted a story in his Newsday.com blog about Steve Austin costing himself a spot in the WrestleMania 18 main event. "The main event of WrestleMania 18 in Toronto was supposed to be Triple H winning the title from Stone Cold Steve Austin," Mates writes.
"But coming off the Alliance storyline, Stone Cold insisted on being turned face again, effectively talking himself out of the main event of WrestleMania. It might have been a merchandise thing, I'm not sure."

I always felt that besides Hogan vs. The Rock and Flair vs. Undertaker that the rest of the WrestleMania card was kind of weak. It could have/should have been one of the best WrestleManias. With this news I think I'd have booked it
"Stone Cold" Steve Austin vs. Triple H (face vs. face for the world title)
The Rock vs. "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan
Ric Flair vs. Undertaker
The Outsiders vs. APA
Edge vs. Christian
Kurt Angle vs. Kane
The Hardyz vs. The Dudleys vs. Billy & Chuck vs.
RVD vs. Chris Jericho
