Wrestling Gold Volume 2: The Maim Event (yes that's spelled right...)
1) The Rock & Roll Express vs. Randy Savage & Lanny Poffo
Decent tag match. Nothing too special. Didn't last for very long (or at least from what you got to see), but it wasn't too bad. For those of you who don't know, "Leapin" Lanny is Savage's brother. He's actually pretty enjoyable, because he does do a lot of leaping.

Ended in a DQ, which happens a lot on these DVDs... but the aftermatch stuff was great. They brawled for a couple minutes, and Savage ended up piledriving Morton through an announce table. Now this is not your announce table you'd think of these days. This was a solid, thick, heavily supported blue table. And it snapped in half with that piledriver. Pretty awesome if you ask me...

2) Manny Fernandez vs. Nick Bockwinkel
Real good stuff. These two meshed really well together. If you're not familiar with Manny, I'll just say that he's a hell of a worker. I really like him personally. But yeah, another very good technical matchup (can you tell I like those...). 2nd best match on the set thus far. Unfortunately the tv time limit ran out in this one...
***1/4
3) The Sheik vs. Mark Lewin
The majority of the match was these two stabbing the hell out of each other with a pencil The Sheik had in his tights and Lewin running around scaring the shit out of the crowd because he didn't know where he was or what he was doing. But hey, it wasn't bad. The ending was just crazy. Lewin has Sheik's manager in a sleeper hold in the ring, and out of nowhere Sheik lights off a fireball that ignites in the middle of the ring into both of their faces. Crazy stuff.

4) David & Kerry Von Erich vs. Gene Yates & Killer Karl Krupp
I didn't like this much at all. It was way too early in the Von Erich's career. They were very inexperienced and it showed in the ring, as they botched a lot of moves and actions. They didn't look like wrestlers, they were just flailing around the ring the whole time. It wasn't impressive. And the match got way too much time then it needed. And to top it all off, the Von Erich's won the match. Disappointing.

5) The Fabulous Ones vs. The PYT Express (Pretty Young Things)
I'd be shocked if anyone has heard of the PYT express. It was the duo of Koko Ware (before the B.) and Norvell Austin. They weren't together very long, but this was a solid matchup between these two teams. Nearly the whole match consisted of the PYT isolating Steve Kern and then the Fabulous Ones finally made a switch while the ref's back was turned, and the match ended pretty abruptly. Koko was a pretty good in ring performer in his day...
**1/4
6) The Road Warriors vs. Jerry Lawler & Austin Idol
Pretty good. This was the Warriors 2nd year in the business. Those two were just fuckin monsters. Fuckin jacked, as if everyone doesn't know that... But anyway, another DQ finish. I'm really starting to like Lawler in his hayday...
**1/2
7) Steel Cage Match: Randy "Macho Man" Savage vs. Jerry "The King" Lawler
Damn this was good. One of those classic old school cage matches. Loved it. Those two beat the hell out of each other. Ended in yet another DQ but this one wasn't that bad. Mad Dog Vachon hopped over the cage like it was nothing and then he and Savage beat the hell out of Lawler. Layed him out flat with a top rope elbow from Randy and a big leg drop from Mad Dog. Another great hidden gem on this set.

8) The Samoans vs. Ted Dibiase & Bob Roop
I really couldn't get into this. There wasn't much to it. The Samoans dropping headbut after headbutt after headbutt about covers it. The finish was just confusing and ridiculous. Roop hit a shoulder breaker on one of The Samoans and pinned him. He got the three count and the ref called for the bell, but then he says it's a DQ because Ernie Ladd was in the ring, whcih he was, getting beat on by Dibiase. But it was just confusing. Bit of a disappointment for me.

9) Bruno Sammartino & Dick The Bruiser vs. Ernie Ladd & Baron Von Raschke
What in the blue hell was this? I'll tell you what it was. A complete clusterfuck mess. This was so weird. It is announced that this a 2 out of 3 falls match, which it was, except the thing is, the only thing on the dvd is the 1st fall. And the ref. Wow. The ref was just terrible. He was counting when there was no one being covered... Just a mess. I can't give this a rating.

10) Tully Blanchard vs. Manny Fernandez
Dammit dammit dammit. The potential for this match is so damn high. I was expecting another good one. But what I get is a damn 3 minute match that ends in another DQ. Gino Hernandez comes out and he and Tully beat the hell out of Manny. He's a bloddy mess. But I'm disappointed again...

11) Jerry Lawler vs. Rick Rude
Unfortunately, we only got to see the last 5 minutes or so. It was alright. The finish was like wtf. A simple double axe handle to the back of the head wins the match for Rude. I really really liked the after match stuff though. (I'm noticing myself saying that a lot in this set) Lawler knocks Angel, Rude's manager right in the face, and then it starts. Tommy Rich, Eddie Gilbert, The PYT Express, and everyone else including Jim Neidhart have an all out brawl. Great stuff there. Not so much for the match.

12) The Crusher/Dick The Bruiser/Little Bruiser vs. The Blackjacks & Bobby Heenan
Ughhh. Boring. A mess. Too many people. That describes it all. The one thing I have to say about this match, is that little bruiser, who is a midget, looks sooo much like Hornswoggle it's not even funny. Seriously. Also Heenan has a really nice blade job in this. Blood pouring down his chest. Other than that, just shit. I wa so glad when this was over.
3/4*
Overall: Mixed feelings. The first half of this was great on the strength of Manny/Bockinkel and Lawler/Savage. But then after the cage match it just went completely downhill, which was just disappointing. Overall I'd say Volume 1 was a bit better. So far Orton/Adonis from disc 1 and Lawler/Savage from disc 2 are tied for MOTS (match of the set). Both at ***3/4 I'm anxious to see if anything is gonna top them...
