Re: Official WWE DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread II
I'm in the middle of watching WCW Slamboree 1994 right now. Good show so far with Flair/Windham , Nasty Boys/Cactus and Sullivan, and Flair/Vader still left. I was a bit let down by Regal/Zybysko as I heard great things. Still a good match. Anyone got thoughts on ECW Anarchy Rulz 1999 as i'm downloading it right now off of torrents?

Loved Anarchy Rulz 1999. Had it on tape for years. Storm/Lynn is a very good opener, Credible/Sabu from what I remember was pretty awesome, the 3-way for the ECW title was extremely enjoyable and a shocker that come out of nowhere, and although it was pretty random, RVD/Mahoney was pretty good from what I remember. Kind of a weird way to end the PPV but pretty good nonetheless. I don't remember much from Tajiri/Crazy/Guido but I mean that has to be good. Just look at the 3 guys history with each other... And because I'm bored I will post Meltzer's ratings for the PPV for no reason:
Quote:
-Lance Storm vs. Jerry Lynn ***1/4
-Yoshihiro Tajiri vs. Super Crazy vs. Little Guido ***1/2
-Justin Credible vs. Sabu ***1/2
-Mike Awesome vs. Masato Tanaka vs. Taz ***3/4

Re: Official WWE DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread II
I actually watched the Lynn/Storm and the Awesome/Tanaka/Taz matches last week on dailymotion! Not sure exactly what I'd rate them, but I preferred the opener to the main event I think. ***1/4 for that seems pretty low... even though it seemed kinda like a clusterfuck at times.
And since I'm also bored/couldn't sleep, I decided to review Bret/Perfect from Summrslam 1991:
8.26.91 WWF Intercontinental Title Match: Mr. Perfect v Bret Hart (Summerslam 91):
So this is the third time I’ve watched this in as many days… and it gets better every time! In the first viewing it seemed like there was something missing to make it a true classic. On the second watch I enjoyed it a bit more, but there was still something that didn’t sit well with me. Then, after my third viewing, everything fell into place for me! Basically, they tell an excellent story that’s constantly building throughout the match:
To begin with, Bret is outsmarting the champion, using headlock takedowns to frustrate Perfect, as well as returning the favour every time Perfect tries to pull Bret’s hair. It’s reminiscent of their feud from 2 years ago as Bret was the one that constantly got the upper hand by using his smarts, while Hennig became more and more frustrated. Perfect won that feud in the end, but this time Bret’s better and smarter to boot, plus there’s the IC title on the line – the key to Bret’s entire future in the WWF.
Eventually Perfect takes control and begins the heat segment, staying on Bret whenever he can. Bret maybe the smarter of the 2, but Perfect isn’t exactly dumb, so he knows when to stay on Bret, attacking his upper body in preparation for the Perfect-Plex. Bret won’t die though, so he kicks out of the finisher and the crowd goes insane, while a morally deflated Hennig senses his grip on the match is slipping…
Bret does indeed fight back, busting out all of his moves attempting to put Perfect away (“5 moves of doom”, if you wish), even getting a fantastic near fall off of a freakin’ second rope elbow drop! It looks like Perfect is all but done for, and Perfect himself knows it, so he gets desperate, trying to catch Bret of guard with a roll up as well as kicking the middle rope into Bret’s groin after a distraction by the Coach, tipping the match back in his favour. At this point, Perfect is comfortable enough knowing that the ball is in his court, so he decides to straight up hurt Bret by stomping him in the groin. The determined challenger isn’t done yet though and he catches Perfect’s leg after a legdrop to the groin attempt, forcing him into the Sharpshooter, and the only thing left for the champ to do is submit… new champion!
As a whole, this was a fantastically told story that flows pretty much flawlessly. I didn’t like the flow of it on the previous viewings for whatever reason, but it really is tremendously done. Nothing was performed sloppily (i.e. everything was crisp and came off looking great) and everything was just… great, really. Perfect (no pun intended) “coming out” story for Bret in that he has officially arrived as a force as a singles wrestler, but it still manages to keep Perfect looking like a million bucks on his way out for a lengthy recovery period. Nothing much more to say really, but this is certainly Bret’s career match to this point (and Perfect’s as well as far as in the WWF goes) and it sits pretty nicely in my top 5 favourite Bret Hart matches ever. Phenomenal match!
****1/2

Re: Official WWE DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread II
I enjoy the madness, man. Too bad I won't be joining in any time soon . Doc' advised me to keep off the pills since personal trainers aren't supposed to be slobbering messes that get high on pain medication.
And the fact I become a complete slut when I'm drunk means that I'm laying off the booze as well... guess I'm a little... straightedge, YEEA.
Doesn't have the same ring to it, but my doctor actually advised me to take up the straightedge lifestyle for a while. I'm not one to listen to doctors (or anyone) generally, but I think I might actually give this a try. I'm betting I last a week.

Pain Pills > Life
The real madness would come out if I was banned on some of them, I'm already banned on some narcotics and got arrested last year. Long story, I'm not a bad ass but shit went to far and all that but I still need SOME pills for my illness and body craves the benzo's so I need em for now.
Anyways I'm thinking about re-posting some random reviews in here that I've done OR MAYBE, just maybe write some if I have time since I wont be coming home till Monday morning.

Re: Official WWE DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread II
Meltzer's rating for Storm/Lynn is a joke IMO, I have that match at ****1/2. I usually don't think his ratings are that bad either, but that particular one I have to disagree with.
Anarchy Rulz 99 is easily one of the top 3 shows ECW ever put on.
Storm/Lynn-****1/2
Crazy/Tajiri/Guido-***3/4
Sabu/Credible-***3/4-****
Awesome/Tanaka/Taz-****-****1/4
I'm kinda doing some of these by memory, but I think their my ratings for the most part. There are a couple of other ***+ matches as well, RVD/Balls is pretty damn good as well IMO.
