Can't wait to pick up The Rock's dvd this Tuesday for the promos alone, but the fact that it has the Triple Threat from Vengeance has gotten me more excited.

Cool, a new thread . How long before we hit 1000 pages?

Nice stuff with the RAW review in the old thread, 'cal. Should be fun to read all of these RAW reviews from yourself, Austin and whoever else is doing it.

I was intending on watching some more Bret today, but a friend came up (a huge old school ECW fan) and we decided to watch some classic old school goodness on dailymotion. I never even attempted to rate any of the matches though as we basically just sat around drinking beer and watching random awesome Randy Savage promos in between lol. Did see a pretty great little 3-way between Super Crazy, Jerry Lynne and Tajiri (can't remember the PPV though, some one from 1999) and the MPro 6-man from the first PPV. That was the shit. I'll be back to Bret later though

And that 'Mania review was some good stuff, HBK. I've got Austin/Rock at ****3/4 as well.

Default Re: Official WWE DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread II

bigcal what are your star ratings for that food you talked about in thread I?

Great review HBK91, lets get the ball rolling again shall we?

WWE Summerslam 2005

US Championship Match
Orlando Jordon vs. Chris Benoit - Did I miss something? Nah just Benoit squashing Jordon, winning after 20 seconds with the crossface. DUD

Edge vs. Matt Hardy

Just like the feud itself, a wasted oppurtunity, a case of what might have been. It could have been booked like the babyface Hardy being cheated on by his girl and best mate, then coming back like a hero eventually displacing him from RAW and going on to the WWE title and superstardom. Then again, we're WWE so lets bury the face and make the heel a star. Went off on a tangent there slightly sorry Match sucked, crap ending and there wasn't nearly enough i. time ii. action iii. story. Their cage match next month at Unforgiven is so much better. *

Ladder Match For Dominick's Custody papers
Eddie Guerrero vs. Rey Mysterio

Finally, some worthy action. Solid ladder match here, good spots, psychology and the action is well built-up towards the climax but clearly nowhere near as good as their WCW classics. This is a different style of match than those, more to do with good psychology and selling, the prescence of Dominick neither hurts or adds to the match I must say. Not Ladder Match 101 but entertaining enough and gets us rolling finally at Summerslam. ***1/4

Eugene vs. Kurt Angle (gold medal match)
Bit of a blah feud that just kept Kurt going along nicely before his WWE title challenge and having Eugene win the gold medal was a decent enough reason for this match happening. Kurt wins after a relative squash, lots of stiff moves, much better than the opening match however, as at least there is some story and psychology to the match. *1/2

Randy Orton vs. Undertaker

Good match here, continuing the feud that culminated in an excellent match at Mania, Orton gets a lot of offence in, Taker does his usual invincible routine, good back and forth action and then of course Bob Orton gets involved, he clobbers Taker and Orton gets the pin that should have happened (clean) at Wrestlemania that year. Good match though. ***

WWE Championship Match
John Cena vs. Chris Jericho

First big title match of the night and what a match, this is rather swept under the pile as far as Y2J, 2005 and even Cena's best matches but this stole the show in my opinion. HOT anti-Cena crowd, back and forth action, Y2J putting some nice holds in and even Cena's superman routine actually seems to be in context this time. I dont like describing matches bit by bit (hence the reason I dont do it in these reviews) but this high-intense battle made Cena a better champion, and provided the grounds for the angle (no pun intended ) that followed it. Excellent. MOTN. ****

World Championship Match
Batista vs. JBL

I know what your thinking and yeah its pretty bad, but notable for the extreme heel heat JBL gets and the god-like ovation Batista receives (listen after the announcer says "from Washington, DC". Glad it was relatively short and sweet and the finish looked good, both mens stiff punches and kick are interesting to watch to, if only for the wrong reasons. **

Main event -

Shawn Michaels vs. Hulk Hogan

First time, last time, only time. I believe that was used by the WWF to promote WMXI's "dream match" between Bigelow and Taylor, but fuck it its getting used here. A match hilarious for the Hogan love (to this very day I still laugh when I a "Hulkamaniac", I hate those wankers) and for Shawn Michaels performance. Wrongly, the Hulkster went over (and to top of the unprofessional ratbags display he refused a job the next month) but at least Shawn had fun doing the job. Good in ring work, an intense psychological battle, a heel HBK,lovely blade job (sick no?) and just that rare feeling you get when watching a BIG match. Great fun, although after the final 3 is counted the DVD player is swiftly turned off. ***1/2

So that's Summerslam 2005, get it for the WWE title match and m-e, even better when you get it for £4 from Computer Exchange (), some nice little things on the undercard aswell. One of the top 3 PPVs of 2005 and a DVD you really should have in your collection, even if its just for one match.

Overall event rating - 7/10

Thanks for reading

I got The Rock's DVD last night. It's worth it for the extras alone.

Dear god... DON'T LOCK A BIG THREAD AGAIN WITHOUT WARNING!!! I had a heart attack.. I may not post often, but I'm here everyday reading the DVD thread.. I bassically had a heart attack there....

Just so I stay on topic (How long until we go off topic in this thread?)

William Regal Vs Chris Jericho- ***
Tazz and The APA vs The Right to Censor- **
Kane Vs Raven Vs Big Show - **** (This is in my opinion one of the most enjoyable matches of all time.. the fact it's the only wrestling related video on my PS3 hard drive proves that, If I want to just sit back and watch a fun match I just stick this on)

Test Vs Eddie Guerrero - **1/2

Chyna Vs Ivory - DUD (One of the worst angles ever in my opinion)

Vince McMahon Vs Shane McMahon- **** (Whatching this live was brilliant... even at the age of ten I wasn't expecting a great match... I marked like a madman at Linda rising out the chair (That's the only time Linda Mcmahon and Marked will appear in teh same sentence...ever (Well maybe with the Higher power eveal as well)))

TLC II - ****1/2 (just like VInce/Shane and the Hardcore triple threat.. just....extremely enjoyable. I acctually remember I was watching this live and I had talked a friend who had never saw wrestling to come round to my house to stay over at my house and watch it. And I'll always remember, the minute Edge hit the flying spear was the firsttime EVER my friend swore. He absolutely despises wrestling in every way (The usual "it's fake" stuff) but he acctually asked me to get him a copy of this match on DVD, that just proves how great this match is)

Gimmick Battle Royal - ** (Just another enjoyable match.. at the time I found it boring but watching it now after watching older stuff It's just a great nostalgia trip)

Taker Vs HHH - ****1/4 (yes I know that "There was a ref bump that last ten minutes" but that doesn't stop this being a great, enjoyable brawl (Do you notice a pattern emerging?))

Austin Vs Rock II - ****1/2 (a great match, amazing watching it live as well... I knocked a 1/4* off though for Austin's heel turn)

Final rating - 10/10

Thoughts - During my four year break from wrestling (Vengance 01 - GAB 05) this was the only wrestling tape I kept, that just proves how great it is.. the perfect PPV and one of very few PPVs you can stick on and say to someone "THIS is why I watch wrestling"

I was just meaning to give my ratings... I kind of went a bit far there

by the way can anyone tell me what's the Rock mouthing there in HBK's Gif.. I'm trying to work it out but I can't lip read

EDIT: cal that sounds lovely.. you've made me hungry now DAMN YOU!!!!
