bigcal what are your star ratings for that food you talked about in thread I?
Great review HBK91, lets get the ball rolling again shall we?
WWE Summerslam 2005
US Championship Match
Orlando Jordon vs. Chris Benoit - Did I miss something? Nah just Benoit squashing Jordon, winning after 20 seconds with the crossface. DUD
Edge vs. Matt Hardy
Just like the feud itself, a wasted oppurtunity, a case of what might have been. It could have been booked like the babyface Hardy being cheated on by his girl and best mate, then coming back like a hero eventually displacing him from RAW and going on to the WWE title and superstardom. Then again, we're WWE so lets bury the face and make the heel a star. Went off on a tangent there slightly sorry

Match sucked, crap ending and there wasn't nearly enough i. time ii. action iii. story. Their cage match next month at Unforgiven is so much better. *
Ladder Match For Dominick's Custody papers
Eddie Guerrero vs. Rey Mysterio
Finally, some worthy action. Solid ladder match here, good spots, psychology and the action is well built-up towards the climax but clearly nowhere near as good as their WCW classics. This is a different style of match than those, more to do with good psychology and selling, the prescence of Dominick neither hurts or adds to the match I must say. Not Ladder Match 101 but entertaining enough and gets us rolling finally at Summerslam. ***1/4
Eugene vs. Kurt Angle (gold medal match)
Bit of a blah feud that just kept Kurt going along nicely before his WWE title challenge and having Eugene win the gold medal was a decent enough reason for this match happening. Kurt wins after a relative squash, lots of stiff moves, much better than the opening match however, as at least there is some story and psychology to the match. *1/2
Randy Orton vs. Undertaker
Good match here, continuing the feud that culminated in an excellent match at Mania, Orton gets a lot of offence in, Taker does his usual invincible routine, good back and forth action and then of course Bob Orton gets involved, he clobbers Taker and Orton gets the pin that should have happened (clean) at Wrestlemania that year. Good match though. ***
WWE Championship Match
John Cena vs. Chris Jericho
First big title match of the night and what a match, this is rather swept under the pile as far as Y2J, 2005 and even Cena's best matches but this stole the show in my opinion. HOT anti-Cena crowd, back and forth action, Y2J putting some nice holds in and even Cena's superman routine actually seems to be in context this time. I dont like describing matches bit by bit (hence the reason I dont do it in these reviews) but this high-intense battle made Cena a better champion, and provided the grounds for the angle (no pun intended

) that followed it. Excellent. MOTN. ****
World Championship Match
Batista vs. JBL
I know what your thinking and yeah its pretty bad, but notable for the extreme heel heat JBL gets and the god-like ovation Batista receives (listen after the announcer says "from Washington, DC". Glad it was relatively short and sweet and the finish looked good, both mens stiff punches and kick are interesting to watch to, if only for the wrong reasons. **
Main event -
Shawn Michaels vs. Hulk Hogan
First time, last time, only time. I believe that was used by the WWF to promote WMXI's "dream match" between Bigelow and Taylor, but fuck it its getting used here. A match hilarious for the Hogan love (to this very day I still laugh when I a "Hulkamaniac", I hate those wankers) and for Shawn Michaels performance. Wrongly, the Hulkster went over (and to top of the unprofessional ratbags display he refused a job the next month) but at least Shawn had fun doing the job. Good in ring work, an intense psychological battle, a heel HBK,lovely blade job (sick no?) and just that rare feeling you get when watching a BIG match. Great fun, although after the final 3 is counted the DVD player is swiftly turned off. ***1/2
So that's Summerslam 2005, get it for the WWE title match and m-e, even better when you get it for £4 from Computer Exchange (

), some nice little things on the undercard aswell. One of the top 3 PPVs of 2005 and a DVD you really should have in your collection, even if its just for one match.
Overall event rating - 7/10
Thanks for reading
