It's Been a Stale Run
I really think the WWE is struggling right now. Injuries have certainly taken their toll with some huge superstars dropping out recently (HBK, Taker, Kennedy) but there are other things to blame. I'm really looking forward to this draft hopefully shaking things up. The storylines lately are completely stale and for the most part uninteresting.
I am sick of seeing MVP vs. Benoit and I am a huge fan of Benoit's in-ring work. I'm hoping the Lashley-McMahon feud is ending sooner rather than later and I don't think anyone is a fan of the Khali-Cena storyline. Honestly, how many times to Batista and Khali have to lose championship matches to get a new combatant in there. There is enough talent still lying around the rosters right now to spark up some interesting angles. Triple H and Mysterio should help when they finally return.
The other big thing that's bothering me lately is the lack of competent mic guys. I don't like Cena's character but he probably has the best mic skills of on the active Raw roster. Edge is still one of my favorites in the WWE today on the mic but it's a far cry from the not so distant past when the roster had Foley, Jericho, Austin, and the Rock to draw from. I thought you could also count on some quality promos from Angle and Christian with entertaining spots from APA and the Dudley Boyz in the tag scene. Today, there's just not much going on the mic. That might have a little to do with how disinteresting some of these angles are since some of these guys don't have the mic skills to have convincing segments.

Re: It's Been a Stale Run
It's the "post-WrestleMania syndrome". WWE storylines slow down for a while after WrestleMania, but are going to start to pick up going into the summer (and SummerSlam), and that starts next week with the Draft!

Re: It's Been a Stale Run
The thing is you like many others are still comparing todays wrestling to that of the Attitude era which had Steve Austin, The Rock, Chris Jericho, Undertaker and HHH in their prime, Mick Foley, Chris Benoit, Kurt Angle, Big Show and Kane but that was then and this is now and we are probably never going to see an era like that again.
Another big factor is the fact that WWE doesn't have any serious competition at the moment, i know TNA is around but their ratings are similar to that of Heat or Velocity so are not really concerning WWE right now, what is needed is something to take WWE out of their comfort zone and really give them a run for their money as at them moment WWE are, and have been since WCW went out of business, on cruise control.
The injuries haven't helped of course and to lose HHH, Undertaker, Shawn Michaels, Rey Mysterio, Mr Kennedy and King Booker would hurt any company as well as losing Big Show and Kurt Angle but seeing as these were the biggest stars in the whole WWE John Cena and Edge apart it has made Vince scrap every short term and long term plan he had, i doubt very much that Khali would be main eventing on Raw if HHH and Shawn Michaels were still on Raw and i doubt we would see Mark Henry involved in anything top level if SmackDown had Mr Kennedy, Rey, Undertaker and Booker but Vince has to make the best of what he has left at the moment.
I don't think we are going to see a dramatic improvement until Survivor Series when everyone barring Undertaker will have been back a while and got back into the groove but it will improve we just have to be patient, i don't want to see Khali, Mark Henry etc involved in the main event scene but until the major players get back from injury we have no choice.

Re: It's Been a Stale Run
It normally picks up again after Vengeance, or around the Great Amerian Bash. It's not somthing that's just happened this year, it noramlly happens every year after 'Mania.
Hopefully, this year the draft will be the tuning point.

Re: It's Been a Stale Run
I think the year so far hasn't been bad for the WWE. My one problem is the fact that they have PPV's so close to each other, we have Backlash, Judgment Day, and ONS so close to each other that they weren't able to properly promote alot of the matches. The quality has fallen a little bit since WrestleMania, but I'm expecting it to pick up after the draft since we will see new feuds and storylines and superstars interacting with each other.

I still think that there are capable guys out there who can work the mic. Obviously not on the Rock's level. I really miss Edge and Christian's tag team tirades. They were highly entertaining. Like I said, Cena is solid but other top guys just aren't getting it done and are just pretty boring with the mic. Lashley isn't really getting over right now. He isn't very convincing, not a lot of emotion. If Jericho would come back I'd probably mark huge for him now just because of how much better I think he is on the mic than the rest of the WWE right now.

Re: It's Been a Stale Run
Regardless of how much Lashley sucks on the mic, he's one of the most explosive and entertaining wrestlers to watch in the ring, I always enjoy watching him pull off back to back high impact moves, although he's not a personal favorite of mine.
The Benoit/MVP feud was brilliant, I wouldn't mind seeing them square off again in the future. Every single match progressevly got better and the feud itself improved in every way possible. At a point, you do gotta' call it quits though and realize that you can't continue to put the same thing on television week after week, which is what the SD booking team did.
Also, I love how people bash Rey to death when he's the World Heavyweight Champion or close to it, but when he's out with a serious injury, people are so motivated for him to come back and add something to the WWE!
There are a lot of injuries at the moment but all in all, things are going to get much brighter for the WWE when Kennedy, Triple H, HBK, Undertaker, Helms, etc,. all return in some sort of fashion.

Re: It's Been a Stale Run
i dont wanna see MVP going around with Benoit anymore, enough of it. I hope, although rumors are against it that Draft Lottery will bring some changes. I really wanna see JERICHO or THE ROCK to make a return and support WWE
