Re: Official WWE DVD Help & Review Thread
I'll do all of the reviews as soon as I can... It may take a couple days to do them all.
For now here is the first one.
Review For Vengeance 2002 (Spoiler-Free)
Opening Video:
This features the typical video that every WWE PPV starts with describing the backstory to the main event.
Tag-Team Table Match - Bubba Ray Dudley & Spike Dudley vs. Chris Benoit & Eddie Guerrero:
This match is pretty much what was expected. Chris Benoit and Eddie Guerrero are both solid competitors that never fail to put on a solid match-up. There are no disqualifications, but the teams abide by tag-team format which does not make much sense. If you are looking for a bloodbath, hardcore match, then you will be disappointed, but if you want a solid technical tag-team match with some hardcore action as well, you will be satisfied by this match.
7.2/10
Cruiserweight Championship - Jamie Noble (c) w/Nidia vs. Billy Kidman:
This match is a great reminder of when the Cruiserweight title was actually somewhat prestigious. Jamie Noble against Billy Kidman is one of my favourite Cruiserweight feuds ever. This match delivers just as do all of the others they had together. It is technically sound and has some great fast-paced action.
7.5/10
European Championship - Jeff Hardy(c) vs. William Regal:
This match really reminds me of how much I miss the European Championship. It gave young superstars a division to compete in that was lower card, but high in quality. This match had huge potential, in my opinion. Both superstars are unique and entertaining, but they did not get enough time to put on a solid match. The match was entertaining, but could have gone on another 10-15 minutes to reach it’s full potential.
5.0/10
John Cena vs. Chris Jericho:
This match is interesting. Seeing how big John Cena has become is unbelievable when watching this, his first ever PPV match. I was a fan of Cena back then, before he became Champion. He is fun to watch, but just not good enough to hold the WWE title for a long period of time, in my opinion. Jericho is always solid, but this match does not do him justice.
5.5/10
Intercontinental Championship - Rob Van Damn(c) vs. Brock Lesnar w/Paul Heyman:
These two have had some solid matches. This is a rematch of their King Of The Ring finals match from the previous month. These two have contrasting styles which makes for a unique and entertaining match. Though not amazing, this match is very good. The best on the card so far.
7.8/10
No Disqualification, No Countout - Booker-T vs. Big Show:
This match has no disqualifications, but there is not much hardcore action to be seen. It is a decent quick match, but nothing special.
6.1/10
Other than the matches themself, there is a story going on throughout the night about which brand Triple-H will go to. Eric Bischoff and Stephanie McMahon battle to try and get him on their respective brands. Shawn Michaels is also involved in this section causing this angle to be very interesting.
Tag-Team Championship - Hollywood Hulk Hogan & Edge(c) vs. Christian & Lance Storm:
Three very talented superstars are involved in this match and also Hulk Hogan. Hogan does not do much other than his usual routine, but the other put on a pretty good match. Worth a watch, but not spectacular.
6.6/10
Undisputed Championship - Triple-Threat Match - Undertaker(c) vs. The Rock vs. Kurt Angle:
This here is hands down one of the greatest matches of the year. It is unpredictable and fast-paced throughout the whole contest. Three great entertainers go at it and put on a classic. This match is a must-see.
9.6/10
I do not have the DVD version, but these are the extras contained on the DVD.
- Hogan and Edge's Tag-Team Championship victory
- Trust Company's music video of the PPV theme ‘Downfall’
- ‘WWE Confidential’ coverage of Eric Bischoff
- Post-match interviews
This PPV had a solid card with mostly enjoyable matches and no duds. It is worth watching just for the final bout. The DVD is now out of print, so it is hard to find, but if you can find it for a decent price then do so.
Overall Rating: 6.9/10
