Cena/HHH ****
Cena/HHH/Edge ****

Here's my review of that match from when i done the HHH DVD

Quote:
HHH V John Cena v Edge, WWE Title, Backlash 2006 ****

I first thought this was the wrong match to end this DVD, I felt it should of been the WM22 Main event but after watching this match for the first time since it aired live I can say the right match made it to DVD! To sum this match up-Fun and the sort of match you show somebody who doesn’t watch wrestling and they will probably still enjoy. The start with Edge standing back worked great then they turned on him leading to a funny spot with them trying to out do the others banging of Edge’s head. The momentum went between all 3 and it looked to be over several times. Lita even got involved-This triple threat had everything a triple threat should have and then a bit more! Towards the end it turned brutal. HHH blade job was intense, his face was just red, I even paused and I could not see any skin color-it’s juts a mask of red blood! Several ending are teased and in the end Cena gets it and as he does a fat little boy on front row starts doing the ‘You cant see me’ taunt and maybe that image sums up why there are so many Cena haters but like HHH says before this match-he deserves a lot more credit than he is given. Another Classic
Enjoying all the reviews these past 2 days

Austin 101 you really rate the RR08 match that Low? i'm gonna have to watch it again, i do remember there were to many big men but Morrison was awesome and HHH/Foley showdown was fun while it lasted and i really like the ending with HHH, Cena and Batista

BTW just orderd Vengeance 2007

Doing move by move while takes ages. I will do a paragraph for each match.

Fair ratings and a good review Mrchrisie

If i were doing a paragraph per match i'd write the good, The bad and how it got finished.

Default Re: Official WWE DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread

I decided to go all out and downloaded all of Judgement Day 2008 so here's the review:

Cena vs JBL

Here we go…JBL is even worse in the ring than he was during his first main event run – and I haven’t found him quite as good on the mic. Running out of main event wrestlers WWE? Shouldn't a young superstar be built up to upper midcard – lower main event level (eg Kennedy, MVP, Morrison)?. None of those superstars are tremendous at this stage but hell they’re more talented than JBL and will only continue to improve.

Now that I’m done with my ranting, the actual match. It left a lot to be desired. Old school? Yes. I don’t mind old school: as long as the wrestlers still do enough to stop me being bored to tears and have some technical wrestling talent. This is not the case here and I thought at least 5 minutes could’ve quite easily been taken off this match. Now although it was sluggish, the wrestling did make sense – the performance/execution just wasn’t there however.

*

Morrison & Miz vs Kane & CM Punk

The team of Miz and Morrison seems pretty damn good from what I’ve seen of them for two guys who copped an absolute mouthful from people on WF before their ECW debuts. Proof that the new developmental ECW has done some things right but I’m not so sure that the show is still warranted tbh when they can’t even get two shows right, let alone three. Anyway Kane is the obvious weak link in this match up as his style is completely different to any of the other three.

Punk is on fire and there is some decent back and forth action for a while but it seems that there’s a lot lacking to reach the *** mark that a lot of people seem to be slapping on it. Enjoyable contest regardless.

**1/2

Chris Jericho vs Shawn Michaels

Now while I didn’t particularly like the pretend injury storyline in regards to how it made sense to the Batista/HBK match it sure did set up a nice storyline and great feud possibilities to go with. It also played on the psychology of this match greatly and made it far more interesting than it otherwise would have been. From what I’ve seen of Jericho in ring wise he seems like he’s still very good – hell, even fantastic at times when he’s given the chance. This is one of those times and we all know HBK’s continued to be in amazing shape in the ring despite all logic suggesting that he shouldn’t be.

Onto the match, now while at times it seems like we’ve seen it all before as they go through the various mat wrestling/counter-wrestling transitions, it still makes for great action and it’s still exciting to watch. It soon turns from technical to heated though as the psychology kicks in and the match gets personal – that’s what I love about the match, it takes you for a roller coaster ride and never has a dull moment: keeping everybody on the edge of their seat. The selling, facial expressions and story told is incredible while from a technical standpoint there’s really not much to criticise. The out of nowhere/anticlimactic finish, fact that we’ve seen similar matches from between two before and the wrong man going over stops the match being a classic, but it’s still one of the better matches of the year so far and great to watch on so many levels.

****

Mickie James vs Beth Phoenix vs Melina

I haven’t really seen any of the Women’s division matches over the last 6 months but on paper it seems like it’s on a bit of a roll right now and this match does look promising. Fast, crisp action leads to a very decent match and the future for the Women’s division looks very good in these competitors’ hands at least. If this was given more time it could’ve been just great but time really isn’t an issue in women’s matches to me anyway as I’d rather them be short, sweet and to the point.

**

Undertaker vs Edge

Yet again, the scouting, countering and intelligent wrestling from both men is simply wonderful to watch. Edge is one of the best sellers in the company as far as I’m concerned and I truly do think that these men bring the best out of each other. I like how Taker actually attempts some intelligent wrestling instead of just the same old routine of being beaten down for a while, performing his signature moves and then going into a finishing sequence. It’s actually back and forth action with both men getting the upper hand and made to look just as credible as each other, which again, is sometimes rare to see in a Taker feud.

It gets the rating it does because despite the ending (which in its own way was brilliant for the heat it got – sometimes a controversial decision can add to a match), the action was frantic, the match’s pace varied to the other matches they had and the combination of smart wrestling with exciting moves/near falls puts it over the top as a match that can be appreciated in so many different ways. Another masterful performance. Vickie’s heat is just AMAZING!

***3/4

MVP vs Jeff Hardy

This contest was decent but just had “filler material” written all over it. They should’ve built up a more meaningful match like a US Title rematch instead of blowing off the feud just after Backlash. That was an absolutely horrible decision IMO because their feud had the ability to kick right off from where it was last year.

The actual match wasn’t overly bad but then again nothing really stood out about it and it lacked any substance or exciting back and forth action.

**

Randy Orton vs Triple H (Steel Cage)

I know this match has generated a lot of heated opinions so it should be interesting to watch but I think people may have just underrated it because their expectations were so high and so when it didn’t meet their expectations they dished out a drastic rating like some of the **1/2 ratings I’ve seen.

I know a lot of people have said these two have poor chemistry but I disagree: I just think they had a poor night. Their interactions at NM, WM and BL were great although I have to admit I found their matches in 04/05 together pretty damn average. The thing about this match is that I don’t think it even required the Steel Cage stipulation. I think if they let them loose in a full scale singles match to follow up their exciting encounter at Backlash that would’ve been much more ideal and then they could’ve had one big blow off gimmick match to end the feud. It just goes to show that slapping on a stipulation doesn’t always guarantee greatness if the feud doesn’t call for it and I think it actually harmed the match.

No doubt the match is still pretty good but it just felt like a Cage match you’d watch on Raw: nice action, fun to watch but something that you’ll never look back on and include it in your classics archive. Not enough intensity, not enough brutality and certainly not enough emotion to achieve what it should have, but I’ll still say that it wasn’t dreadful – it just lacked a second gear to really make the match take off and stand out in its own right.

***

Overall: 6.5/10

A good PPV for sure, although only two matches really stood out but those two matches made the show well worth watching. The rest of the card contains a lot of solid stuff and only one truly bad match, so give it a watch.

Three completely different styles of characters clashed perfectly here: the sadistic, cunning heel (Edge) the dominant force ready to take his spotlight back (Triple H) and the young champ who was trying to prove himself worthy and developing an “amazing” ability to overcome all odds.

Stock standard heel psychology by Edge early on was spot on and the chemistry/intensity between Cena and Triple H was at an all time high at this point so the match had a great flow to it – not a dull spot throughout. The transitions were smooth-the sequences came off well. One of the more brutal triple threat brawls the WWE has put on ensued after the high-energy start set the scene. The last 5 or so minutes were dramatic, exciting and executed perfectly to cap off one of the most overlooked matches in recent years.

I absolutely love this match! It's been a while since I saw it last, but watching it live and then again the next day it just totally engrossed me. Like I said, the length of time between watching it last means I can't really comment any more on it, but I'd agree with everything you said, only adding a 1/4* to my rating. Great stuff all around with the reviews as well.

Personally it's one of my favourite matches of all time. I don't think Kev's as fantastic in this match at being a badass heel as a lot of people do, but there's no question that this is easily one of his top 3 matches ever. He's great at cutting off Shawn's comebacks and getting massive heat, but I still find it to be more of a "Shawn busting his ass on one end and _insert big guy here_ playing off of it" match as opposed to his matches with Bret where he works the matches very smartly and holds his end up a bit more. Still though, the match is fantastic. ****1/2
