Re: Official WWE DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread
Never have seen that event, but I suppose I should check out that Triple threat Main Event. I noticed you said if you are lucky you will never have to witness a Kane/Show match again. Then I suggest you don't tune in to Night of Champions as that is scheduled for the ECW title. Although Show is injured so he may not make it...Looking forward to Armageddon review, never seen that one either.
Still really looking forward to your Mania review.

Re: Official WWE DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread
Another excellent review, 101. I would switch around the ratings for RVD/Shelton and the triple threat but otherwise I think you're spot on.
Really looking forward to Armageddon 07. When can I expect it?

Re: Official WWE DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread
Great review Austin101. I'd go a little higher on HBK/God vs. McMahons, can't remember my exact rating. It's been a while..
I was watching Wrestlemania 21 but my disc 'died' on me during Randy Orton's entrance . I was planning on doing a review and all..
Guerrero/Mysterio - ***
Money In The Bank - ****
The Eugene/Hassan/Hogan segment was also entertaining. I felt Hassan's mic delivery could have been a bit better at some points, but he was still good. I didn't get why Eugene & Hogan didn't pose down following Hogan getting rid of Hassan & Daivari. Would've made sense since Hogan saved Eugene..

Re: Official WWE DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread
NB: Posted from a while back. Ratings might have changed from the till now. I actually started to watch it again last night. Awesome.
WWE Armageddon 2007 Review
MVP vs. Rey Mysterio - United States Title - ***
This match should of been something special but was decent, bordering on solid. MVP is a very good athlete along with the high flyer Rey Mysterio. Rey had some good spots but MVP came into the match not wanting to perform. The ending wasn't the best although it does set up a future match hopefully with Hardy involved. On a side not people have hated the endings on most of the matches at Armageddon but mostly there is a reason for it, I will try and justify why I think the ending was done that way.
CM Punk & Kane vs. Mark Henry and Big Daddy V - **
To start off I didn't think this match deserved to be on the card. I thought it would be a 3 minute disaster. It was far from that. The match was given 10 minutes and all men were given time to perform. Yes it was slow at times but the addition to Punk added an element on tempo. The ending was kind of cool and was good to Punk go over clean.
Mr Kennedy vs. Shawn Michaels - ***1/2
For me this was Kennedy's make or break match. I think at times he looked good but Michaels did a good job of carrying him. Both men were selling well and the ending was good. It made both Kennedy and Michaels look strong. Kennedy did well, but he certainly shouldn't settle down. He needs a lot of work in the ring and this will come in time. I see him getting a push around the summer of next year.
Triple H vs. Jeff Hardy - Number One Contenders Match - ***1/2
Psychology wise, this was MOTN. Triple H demanded Jeff to fight. Although Triple H lost he still remained the stronger opponent in the match. Jeff would get a series of moves in and pick up momentum. Triple H would then effortlessly stop him in his tracks. The finish wasn't that bad as Jeff looked over but countered for the win. The crowd were over on both superstars but this added an element of confusion because when Jeff won they didn't know what to do. The crowd was dead which is what hurt this match. Some people would have this match at ***3/4 but I'm keeping at the ***1/2 mark.
Finlay vs. Khali - *1/4
To start off I though this would be horrible just the the ECW Tag match but it wasn't. Khali dominated with some good shots on Finlay to make to crowd cringe. Khali dominated well throughout. Hornswaggle then came in to help Finlay for the win. The ending wasn't great as he had to cheat to win but hey, to best Khali unless your Cena it's the only way. The match could of been better with more time but was just a filler for the Orton/Jericho match.
Randy Orton vs. Chris Jericho - WWE Title - ***1/2
People have shit on this match a lot. I like it, a lot. The match gave good temp and both men looked very good including Jericho considering it was his first PPV back after two years. Call him Blandy Borton if you like but his title reign has been good although he has been carried by top athletes such as Triple H and Shawn Michaels. The crowd were really into it and looked like they though Jericho was actually going to do it. They did some outside ring work where Jericho was thrown into JBL which led to the disqualification. The match was intended to keep Jericho and Orton solid, neither men shouldn't of gone over. This should of happened the next night on RAW though. I don't like disqualifications that much, they do shit on a match just like Michaels/Mankind back in 1996 ( I think). Anyway I'm sticking Orton/Jericho, Hardy/Triple H and Kennedy/Michaels all at ***1/. They were all very good matches but were not worthy of anything more. People overrate the matches I think especially the Hardy/Triple H match just because he won.
Beth Phoenix vs. Mickie James - Womens Title - *1/2
Mickie looked very strong in the match. She wore down and beat up Beth well with very good moves. Beth was always going to win. The match was good and was given a decent amount of time. Hopefully this match will be at Wrestlemania as they can give a good match. I would like to see this re-match again.
Batista vs. Undertaker vs. Edge - World Heavyweight Title - N/R
I honestly do not know what to give this match. I think it will be the most controversial match of the year. It should of been great, really really great and it started off that way. Edge running from the two monsters and Undertaker and Batista themselves fighting to get at him. The match should a lot of brawling outside the ring with Undertaker dominating. The match was going so well until Edge stop fighting and hid. The two impostors came out and just added confusion. I thought it would go well but it was awful. Michael Cole got me more confused than anyone. He can obviously see them in front of him but will only make reference when the cameras are on them. Its silly really. Anyway the match ended like Survivor Series with Undertaker taking the steel chairs to the head only for Edge to counter and win. Ending was poor, I thought Batista would kick out. Less time on ECW Tag matches are more time on probably the biggest Smackdown main event of the year. It failed to deliever. *** - ***1/2 I would give it. A re-watch would help me.
Overall - ***1/2
Good but nothing great tbh. Every was solid but nothing stood out exception thus in me believing this PPV will go unkown. Although I slated the card before hand it had chance to be great but it wasn't. The main event should of been a lot better along with the opener and the WWE title match. I wish the match didn't end in a DQ but it did. Oh well. Cyber Sunday, Survivor Series, Armageddon have all been solid. Good work by WWE, they just need to go that one step further.

Re: Official WWE DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread
Finished Exams (yay) and was watching some of Edge’s 2006 stuff so I thought I’d review some of his matches that year and get some feedback on ratings/thoughts/opinions etc. This is one of my “occasional” posts, but I do view this thread to get feedback after a PPV airs occasionally and it looks like it’s going stronger than ever. It’s the only thread I do view when I come on here – IMO it’s been the best thread on here for a while. Anyway:
Edge’s 2006 (Best Of)
Wrestlemania-Edge vs Mick Foley (Hardcore)
At this point Edge was an amazing heel; his character was so sadistic. Foley’s hardcore greatness cannot be denied, as he puts another superstar over in another hardcore classic. The story in this epic battle was great as Foley was trying to prove not only to the fans but also to himself that he’s still got it. Meanwhile Edge was proving that he had the guts to step it up in a big match situation and earned more respect in this one match than he had during his whole career up to this point.
The spots were brilliant, the weapon shots were crisp and the tremendous selling made it so much better. Absolutely amazing finish and the facial expressions by Edge after the match emphasised the fact that this was a war of epic proportions. People could now take Edge seriously, Foley had his Wrestlemania moment and the ovation both of these men got was much deserved. Just probably lacked a bit of substance, time and originality -those three factors stop my rating being any higher – but a hugely entertaining contest nonetheless.
****
Backlash-Edge vs Cena vs Triple H
Three completely different styles of characters clashed perfectly here: the sadistic, cunning heel (Edge) the dominant force ready to take his spotlight back (Triple H) and the young champ who was trying to prove himself worthy and developing an “amazing” ability to overcome all odds.
Stock standard heel psychology by Edge early on was spot on and the chemistry/intensity between Cena and Triple H was at an all time high at this point so the match had a great flow to it – not a dull spot throughout. The transitions were smooth-the sequences came off well. One of the more brutal triple threat brawls the WWE has put on ensued after the high-energy start set the scene. The last 5 or so minutes were dramatic, exciting and executed perfectly to cap off one of the most overlooked matches in recent years.
****
One Night Stand-Edge, Foley and Lita vs Funk, Dreamer and Beulah
Speaking of overlooked matches in recent years, take a look at this for a gem of a contest. The team of Edge, Foley and Lita was awesome from a heel standpoint. It contained the slut, the sadistic new force and the brutal, hardcore legend that had just turned his back on his fellow ECW legends and fans.
The match worked so well because the story they told was simple and the intensity was through the roof. The offence of the heels was truly brutal and merciless, while the ECW legends proved yet again how crazy and “hardcore” they still were. Every bit of their offence was entertaining and the crowd go crazy for them. The amount of blood coming from Funk was ghastly and there were too many “Holy Shit” moments to count. It contained all the elements that are essential for a good hardcore match; sadistic beat downs by the heels, fast paced action from the faces and of course the #1 factor: brutality – on this point it delivered 100%. This nostalgic brawl achieved everything it aimed/needed to do: pretty much flawless for the type of match it tried to be.
****1/4
Vengeance-Edge vs RVD
Better match up than the Cena/RVD and Cena/Edge match ups at their respective PPV’s and the superior pacing was evident. The chemistry these two had in the ring made for an easy to watch experience and both men were on a roll at this point. The match was given a good amount of time and the action never got dull – it quite easily deserved to main event the show. I loved the finish and RVD’s reign was fresh to see. Along with his actual title win at ONS, this match was one of the highlights of his WWE career-maybe not based on being his best work but on the basis that it was the best match he had when he was in the most successful part of his career: as World Champion.
***3/4
Summerslam-Edge vs Cena
The title can change on a DQ stipulation in this match played into the psychology heavily. It really added something to the match and forced Edge to think about his game plan a little more. The chemistry and nice feud they had going together definitely helped the match because there weren’t really any outstanding spots or elements that were amazing: but despite that it was still a good match. A bit unoriginal in the first 10 minutes though as Edge beats and wears Cena down for 10 minutes straight and then all of a sudden Cena springs up like a jumping jack: springing around the ring as if the match just started. Despite that, the time when Edge is actually delivering offence is enjoyable and he put on a great performance. Slow, uninspired start to the match but the frantic last 8 minutes and clever finish bring the match up a notch.
***1/4
Unforgiven-Edge vs Cena (TLC)
This was the best one on one match to come out of the Edge/Cena feud and Edge’s performance in his hometown was great while Cena also showed great signs. The only problem is he looked a little lost between spots and so the transitioning and overall flow of the match could’ve been much better. There were a couple of botches and the finish was anti-climatic because Cena had to re-set the table up for no logical reason (Kayfabe) before he climbed the ladder. His chair shot to Edge is also one of the weakest I’ve ever seen. Despite all of this, the match had so many great features that overcame the apparent flaws.
Intensity, chemistry, a great back-story and a hot crowd made for an excellent atmosphere: so while the actual wrestling wasn’t the best I don’t think it was needed as much in this stipulation. The spots were off the hook although Cena’s goofy offence being incorporated into ladder moves was laughable at best. The match had mixed emotions for me but I think it’s safe to say it was still an awesome contest that could be watched over and over again: it just wasn’t technically a “classic”.
***3/4
Combined with his excellent feuds, solid TV matches, awesome promos and exciting character Edge was quite easily the WWE wrestler of the year for 2006. He also had a bunch of other good-great matches for the year to cap it off.
