Sorry straightedge015, I think you edited your post right after I posted mines or something.
****1/4 seems a bit too far fetched for me. The psychology was alright, I had no problem with it. The match just appealed to me as a solid tag-team contest. *** is a pretty solid in its own right. I thought Kane/Austin was better because of the superior storytelling in the match. The psychology fitted right in with the whole 'First Blood' stipulation. Overbooked, yes. The interferences from Undertaker & Mankind was unnecessary, as was the lowering of the 'Hell In A Cell' cage. Despite that, the match still managed to put on a great brawl. Austin's bleeding at the end was great.
Thanks for that bit KeepItFresh. I should have figured .

Everything about the tag match was stellar. It featured the 2 hottest storylines in the company at the time coming together. Perfect execution and timing of nearly all the spots, molten crowd heat, hot tags, huge payoffs, and no dead spots. It showed that Austin and HBK needed each other, whether they liked it or not. Deep psychology for the most part.
There wasn't any superior storytelling in the Kane match at all. The whole thing was absurd from the get go. There was no way Kane was gonna bleed. They booked themselves into such a corner. Kane SETTING HIMSELF ON FIRE IF HE LOST would of been cool though.

Re: Official WWE DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread
Wwe Judgement Day 2004 Review
1. Rey Mysterio & Rob Van Dam vs The Dudley Boys
I was looking forward to see this match. It seemed like a nice clash of styles. To me i thought Van Dam & Rey could have been an amazing tag-team for a long-time. I think the wwe droped the ball on that one.
Well onto the match.
During the first half of the match D-von and Bubba Ray kept the highflyers Mysterio and Van Dam ground-based and didnt allow them to hit any big moves. There was this one move when Rey was hung backwards on the ringpost and reversed it on Bubba Ray that was a sick move. Well this match was well-paced and a great way to kick off the show, even though i felt like it dragged a little.
Mysterio hits a double 619 and Van Dam hit a 5 star frog splash to give Mysterio and Van Dam the win.
Good Opener
Rating: ** 3/4
2. Torrie Wilson vs Dawn Maire
If Torrie looses she will be fired.
No not Torrie !
Well this was better than their RR '03 match which was awful awful awful !
Well pretty good for two non-wrestlers.
Torrie wins and keeps her job !
Rating: * 1/2
3. Mordecai vs Scotty 2 Hotty
When this Mordecai dude walked out to the ring i wanted to shut off my television.
But the fact is this guy wasnt that bad.
Mordecai pretty much dominates Scotty. Poor Scotty this guy was pretty good inside the ring and was treated like a jobber just like Val Venus.
Okay match for a guy making his debut.
Rating: * 3/4
4. Rico & Charlie Hass (c) w/ Ms. Jackie vs Billy Gunn & Hardcore Holly - Tag-Team Titles.
Well Rico scared the shit out of me.
Holly and Gunn seemed like a random ass tag-team but actually worked well together. I always like Billy Gunn especailly during the attitude era. He's a great tag-team worker.
Well this match was your basic tag match. The heel team dominates at first, the face team makes a mini comeback, then when Holly has Hass up for the Alabama Slam Rico gives Holly a sick kiss in the face and Hass counters it into a pin.
Rico & Hass retain.
Pretty good.
Rating: ** 1/2
5.Jacqueline (c) vs Chavo Guerrero W/ Chavo Classic - Cruiserweight Championship
We all knew who was going to win.
Why is this match on ppv.
Pointless, boring, awful match with Chavo having one hand tied behind his back.Chavo Classic unties Chavo's hand and distracts the ref to help Chavo pick up the win.
Awful, skip if you want.
[B} Rating:*
6.John Cena (c) vs Renee Dupree - United States Championship
Cena's popularity was at an all-time high.
Dupree just came over from Raw and was making a name for himself on Smackdown.
This match proved Dupree is pretty good in the ring and Cena doesnt get the credit he deserves. The crowd was very into this match. The paced never slowed down and there was a great back and forth battle of moves and counters.
Great stuff, MOTN so far.
Rating: ***
7.Undertaker vs Booker T
This feud sucked. I didnt like this feud at all. I really wasnt looking forward to this match. I never thought these two had good chemistry together in the ring. Well shockingly this was a good match. Some good brawling outside the ring with both men exchanging blows.
Taker hits a chokerslam and tombstone piledriver to pick up the victory.
Pretty good shit.
Rating: ***
8. Eddie Guerrero vs John Bradshaw Layfield - WWE Championship
I couldnt wait to see this match. On paper this looked good but not great. But it exceeded the expectations. Good build-up to this match. Eddie was after Jbl for weeks now.
This match started off outside the ring with some good old-fashioned brawling. Jbl back-fliped Eddie onto the announce table but it didnt break. After the ref was knocked down Jbl gave Eddie the sickest chair-shot i've ever seen. Eddie's head busted open like he just got shot !
Then Jbl started to dominate Eddie and also hit him with steel steps !
This match was so BRUTAL.
Eddie kicked out of a clothesline from hell and a piledriver. The crowd was really behind Eddie. I couldnt believe he kicked out. Eddie started to fight back and got back into the match. This match was shortly staring to become a classic. Another ref came into the ring and got knocked down.
The original ref finally got back up. Eddie ended up getting dq-ed after hitting Jbl with the championship belt.
But the brawl didnt end after this. Eddie attacked Jbl for like another 10 mintues and busted him wide open. Refs finally got him to stop and Eddie got a hugh ovation.
One of my favorite matches of both men.
CLASSIC
It took me a long time to come up with a good rating.
Rating: **** 1/4
Overall: 6/10 a few good matches & a classic main event

Re: Official WWE DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread
Yeah I have HBK/Austin vs Bulldog/Owen at ****1/4-****1/2. Sure it's only like 12 or 13 minutes long but it did everything it needed to in that amount of time.
Plus the crowd was hot as hell and the atmosphere was electric with 4 of the best wrestlers of all time in the ring, definitely one of my favorite WWE tag matches of all time.

Re: Official WWE DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread
I have that Bulldog & Hart/HBK & Austin match around ***3/4. The breaks never help any televised match and I didn't think it had the feel of a ****1/2 match. I hated the ending too. Although ****1/2 seems about the average rating of the match.

HBK/Austin vs. Bulldog/Owen - ****1/2
Ending is the main thing that brought the match down, otherwise it was a very fun entertaining match.

What's wrong with the finish? It was good in the context of the story they were telling.

As long as there's drama right before they cut to commercials, I usually don't mind them on TV matches. Like a babyface getting the hell beat out of him when they go commercial, then when they come back the crowd is going nuts and he's getting the upperhand.
