They had two awesome matches in 2004 on RAW. One took place on February 16, the other one on May 3. Scott Keith handed each of them ****1/4, which I would agree with. They would have been higher if HHH hadn't intefered.
I'm quite saddened that Benoit and Michaels never got the opportunity to put on a one-on-one pure wrestling clinic that could have produced the greatest match ever. I always thought Benoit had the greatest, most intense offence out of anyone and no one could take a beating as beautifully as Shawn. They were practically made for each other.

Re: Official WWE DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread
The only thing that could of made that piss segment worse would be to add shit. And they would soon enough with the NEW DX wouldn't they? Pathetic. The whole logic behind that feud was pathetic and yeah while the match was better then anyone expected at WM 22, come on...the feud and the match weren't anything to get excited about overall.

Re: Official WWE DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread
The feud sucked but what I did like was how they used the feud to give HBK an edge that he didn't have in years. It should of stopped at Mania.
I'd be really surprised if HBK was ok with the god storyline.

What a match. If only it had a conclusive finish.
Btw, how do you guys compare Owen's in-ring ability to Bret's? Personally I think he was a better technical wrestler than Bret.
|
That match is an absolute gem. It never gets the acknowledgment that it deserves. I don't even think Bret mentions it in his book, which is just perplexing. Slap a finish on that baby and it's the best tag match on North American soil. I like the amateur wrestling style of The Steiners/Harts more than the style that Angle would fashion later. It just seems more realistic and strategic, whereas Angle's style is more about performing endless sequences of counters and submissions that eventually become annoyingly predictable.
Scott Steiner was a god back in the 80's and early 90's. He became a joke later on, but in his prime he probably had the most potential out of anyone in recent history. Angle calls himself the suplex machine, but Scott had at least 3 times as many different suplexes than our Olympic hero. Hell, Scotty would invent different variations of suplexes on the fly and nobody would even know what to call them. Flair even volunteered to job the title to him in WCW, but Scott didn't wanna break up the Steiner Brothers. It's a shame that injuries caught up with him and he lost all motivation afterwards. Hopefully, we get a Steiner Brothers DVD someday.
As far as Owen being a better technical wrestler than Bret, I wouldn't say so. Owen had flashier moves, no doubt, but technical wrestling is about more than that. Bret was all about execution and psychology; things that few people can even dream about matching him on. Owen was extremely gifted, but he never really incorporated technical wrestling into his matches apart from his bouts with Bret and Bulldog, whereas Bret was consistently technical with all of his opponents. Owen also lacked that storytelling sense that distinguishes the best from the rest. He's one of those guys who was only as good as his opponents, at least during his days in the WWF.

Re: Official WWE DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread
Wrestlemania 23:
Just rewatched so i will try give a more detailed review then some of my reviews.
MITB: The action starts early here with finlay diving onto 5 men on the outside. Edge trys to pick up the scraps but is foiled by Matt Hardy. Outside a funny ladder spot with King booker and a step ladder, CM punk uses it a bit. Edge trys to suplex Cm punk onto a ladder (that he eventually goes through). Back inside Edge goes spear frenzy before a cool spot where he spears Cm punk with a ladder on his head taking out finlay and orton aswell. Edge goes for the ladder But gets taken to the outside. Heres Hardy's HUGE SPOT where he goes 20 ft onto edge lying on that ladder wedged between the ring, Awesome. Orton goes RKO crazy before Rkoing Punk off the ladder, Book End off a ladder, Green Bay Plunge off a ladder, Kennedy knocks Punk off and climbs up to Win.
Match Rating: ***3/4.
Kane Vs Khali: Punches and irish whip moves to start mostly, Kane with a flurry in the corner but gets stopped. Top rope clothesline and khali doesnt fall down. Khali trapped in the ropes, kane punches him to buggery, Kane gets the hooked, Low blow using the hook and Kane SLAMS KHALI! HOLY SHIT. 2 counts, trys for Chokeslam, Reversed and khali gets his chokebomb for the win.
Match rating: *3/4, The slam lifted this so much.
MVP vs Benoit: I am not going to describe this match move by move because it was a very good technical match. MVP really impressed me here, He went toe to toe here with Benoit Especially on the wrestling holds. Benoit wins after 3 german suplex's and a diving headbutt.
Match Rating: ***1/2
Batista Vs Undertaker: MOTN, This was excellent. Both men did well here. Fist fight to start with Batista getting the better, Clothesline takes taker to the outside but Taker pulls Batista out, Back in Batista with a shoulder block. Undertaker gets advantage and hits 2 clotheslines in the corner, Snake eyes, Big boot and a leg drop all in succession. Undertaker knocks Batista to the outside and dives out of the ring onto batista. Fight on the outside results in Undertaker Being Powerslamed through an announce table. Back in for 2. The finishers begin, Batista mounts Taker in the corner but Taker Counters with a last Ride. 2 Count,. Chokeslam gets 2. Batista Spinebusters Taker but Taker sits up while he's shaking the ropes. Batista hits a spear and Batista Bomb, taker kicks out!! Taker Eventually gets the Tombstone Piledriver for the win. Great match!
Match rating: ****1/2
ECW Originals vs New Breed: Sabu hits his flying stuff early, Sandman comes in with a legdrop while Strikers on the top rope. Dreamer and Sandman Double Elbow drop. Originals take control. Cor Von Impresses me most here and i really would like to see more of him, To bad he is released. Hot tag To RVD after A neckbreaker Ddt combo. Rvd With a HUGE Monkey flip on striker, Rolling Thunder, Huge Brawl takes everything to the outside, RVD **** For the win.
Match rating: **1/4
Lashley VS Umaga: Very Entertaining here, Starts off with a fist fight, Umaga Sent to the outside which had to hurt! Umaga Returns the favour to Lashley to take control. Good By play between Austin and Umaga. Umaga Dominates but then goes up top to which Lashley Press slams him off then hits a clotheseline to take both men out. AUSTIN 3:16 SAYS NO COUNTOUTS! Austin gets samoan spiked, Shane comes down and hits a Van Daminator. Another Spike for Austin who stopped the count of shane. TRUMP CLOTHESLINES MCMAHON!! AWESOME! Stunner to Umaga, Spear by lashley for the win!
Match rating: ***1/2. That was fully entertaining! Awesome job their by WWE.
Ashley vs Melina: Meh, Nothing special. A few moves but thats about it.
Match Rating: Wont add to the Overall but 1/2
Cena vs Michaels: Cena drives a mustang to the ring. Shawn Gets the better of him earlier before Hiptossing Cena to the outside, Enzuigir by Michaels then the springboard Moonsault where Shawn Lands on the announce table aswell as getting Cena. Back in Shawn Targets the knee. When they are sitting in the corner i believe Shawn is shooting on Cena because you can only hear the crowd. Cena comes back after shawn gets cut open by the ring post. Cena with The 5 Knuckle Shuffle. Ref Bump, Cena Gets Piledrived on the stairs outside for 2, Bleeding on the head for cena. A lot of good Counters and moves follow with Cena trying to F-u and Stfu Michaels while Michaels reversed them all, He gets the Stfu In but Michaels gets to the ropes, Cena Argues with the ref, Sweet Chin Music Bam! 2 count their though. Another good sequence ends up with the finish of Cena getting the win by submission.
Match rating: ****, The selling by Cena didnt help.
Overall: very good Wrestlemania with alot of good matches. The womens match holds down the card but other wise, Every match was watchable and had a memorable moment IMO.
Match ratings overall for lazy people who dont wannt read.
MITB: ***3/4
Kane/Khali: *3/4
MVP/Benoit: ***1/2
Batista/Undertaker: ****1/2-MOTN
Originals vs New breed: **1/4
Lashley vs Umaga: ***3/4
Ashley vs Melina: 1/2
Cena vs Michaels: ****

Re: Official WWE DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread
I just watched the Superbrawl Pillman/Liger match from the Pillman dvd again and after listening to JR's awkward one-man play-by-play I just realized that they took off all of Jesse the Body's commentary. Anyone know the reason for this?

Glad to see somebody else appreciate Scott. He some of the best high impact offense ever. Steiner Screwdriver was nuts.

BTW, you haven't seen Savage vs Warrior. The fuck is wrong with this picture? LOL, you're missing one of the best stories ever told in a wrestling match.

Thank you for the feedback! Nope I have never seen Savage/Warrior WM 7, only the end when Liz returns.

I'd rather have seen '96 Benoit vs. '83 Dynamite Kid if that were possible. Supposedly they had a match in Stampede in '88 or '89 or so but Benoit was still pretty young and Kid's body was starting to (literally) fall apart by that time.
And yeah Scott Steiner in his prime was awesome.
